2017 Yankees Thread

everybody Wins 54 games.

everybody Loses 54 games.

its what you do in those other 54 that determine your season.

we are losing too many from that last bucket now...

must win the next 2.

damn rain...

In 2016 we had a disastrous April (8-16) which killed the season.

We're 7-17 since the start of the West Coast swing last month.

It's not what you want.

ROSTER MOVES: Prior to today's game, the Yankees recalled RHP Ben Heller and RHP Jonathan Holder from Triple-A SWB and optioned RHP Luis Cessa and LHP Jordan Montgomery to SWB.

Monty wouldn't pitch again until next Saturday due to the All-Star break. Makes sense that they would send him down to bring up more relievers.

Just a guess:
Sun vs MIL: Tanaka
Fri at BOS: Tanaka again?
Sat at BOS: CC
Sun 1 PM at BOS: Pineda
Sun 8 PM at BOS: Sevy or ???
Mon at MIN: Sevy or ???
Tues at MIN: Montgomery (after 10 days in SWB)
Wed at MIN: Tanaka

feel bad for Monty, he should have 2 more wins and deserved a 'paid vacation', but for the better of the team this was the right move.

when Cessa came in last night and went for 2, I knew he was DOOMED!!

I think tanaka goes on Saturday...extra day of rest.

my guess is

Fri: CC
Sat: Tanaka
Sun: Sevy & Pineda interchangable
Mon: Green
Tues: Monty

Needed that one. Huge win. Against a pretty solid team, with great innings by our two best bullpen guys, via a massive hit by a Youngin against an AS closer

These are games you look back on

I wouldn't get too excited, I still think the Yankees miss the playoffs.

Yankees can get healthy and chase a wildcard. The Mets are done. So you can stop watching baseball, but I'll still grab games after the break.

While we are at it, the New York Football Giants win the division, and the 'pokes miss out on the postseason (stop me if you heard that before)... so don't even bother with football this year, it's already over. See you in '18-'19 (maybe).

I know the Mets are done, they have been for a while, Im just saying im not a buyer in the Yankees, don't have the pitching, unless Judge has 100 hrs in him, I don't see them going far.

Yeah, it will be an interesting second half.

Apart from that, don't mind me... just doing a little Saturday evening trolling.

The Yankees are giving their September pennant race call ups...June & July experience.

Come the fall, when everyone is healthy...CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

It's possible, as their pitching has been a little leaky. Or a lot. But this was supposed to be a rebuilding year anyway, so if they don't I can live with it. There are some good signs for the future. Still, I'm not giving up on the playoffs just yet. :)

Thanks for bringing your usual optimism to this thread.

Relax im just having some fun with you guys, but lets be honest, if It wasnt for Judge channeling his inner Babe Ruth and Stan Musial in the first half the Yankees would be well under 500.

Well if the Dead Sux hadn't traded Ruth and Lou Gehrig had grown up in whatever passes for the German neighborhood of Cambridge.....

A month ago, they were 15 games over .500 with the second best record in baseball and outscoring their opponents by almost 2 runs per game before a Mets-like succession of injuries to key players, so maybe not.

To be fair the Mets lost their best player, closer, and best pitcher for most of the season. I know Chapman has been out for a while, but take Judge and Severino off the Yankees and tell me where they would be.

todays Post said that Monty can pitch on Sunday as the '26th player' for the double header.

that will save them a roster move for a whole week.

Good catch.

  1. The "26th man" must be on the club's MLB Reserve List (40-man roster) or has to be added to the club's 40-man roster that day.
  2. The "26th man" does not have to be a pitcher.
  3. In the case of a doubleheader that is scheduled at least 48 hours in advance, the 26-man Active List limit is in effect for both games of the doubleheader, but the "26th man" cannot be switched between games.
  4. A player can be added to a club's Active List as the "26th man" even if he has not spent the minimum required 10 days on optional or outright assignment prior to being added.
  5. The player who was recalled as the "26th man" can remain on the Active List and a different player can be dropped the next day, as long as the "26th man" was not called up prior to spending at least ten days on optional assignment. NOTE: A player called up as the "26th man" prior to spending at least ten days on Optional Assignment could remain on the 25-man roster if the player replaces a player who is placed on the Disabled List (or other MLB inactive list) the day after the doubleheader.
  6. If a player is recalled as the "26th man" and is optioned back to the minors the next day, the "10-day rule" clock (prohibiting a player from being recalled until he has spent at least ten days on Optional Assignment, unless he is replacing a player who is placed on the DL or other MLB inactive list) does not start over again. However many days toward ten that the player spent on Optional Assignment prior to being recalled as the "26th man" counts.
  7. A player recalled as a "26th man" accrues one day of MLB Service Time.
Long story short, Monty gets called up for 1 day as the 26th Man on Sunday and gets sent right back down, then can be called up again when his 10 days expires (which would now be Wed July 19).

We still need a starter for Tuesday. Maybe Cessa gets called up, starts, then he goes down on Wed for Monty.
