2018-19 Depth Chart

I really believe Buddy will redshirt. Like Cooney, he’d be so much better off redshirting, and so would our program. We’ll have plenty of depth at guard next season even if Battle goes pro. And I think we’ll have enough shooters with OB, Carey, Hughes, and Howard.
Would not classify Hughes as a shooter no chance buddy Redshirts.

I spoke to an AAU coach from Pennsylvania and he told me what is one of the 3 best shooters he’s ever seen in His life live

If Hughes can be dangerous from deep this team will excel, i think that is the biggest unknown right now

IMO, no way Boeheim has Marek coming off the bench.

Not sure how it works for Bazley, but Marek does too many things well and has earned too much trust. He's JB's golden boy, rightfully so.
Totally agree.

Without Battle:

PG: HOWARD, Carey, HoWash
SG: HUGHES, (Howard), Boeheim
SF: BRISSETT, Marek, (Hughes)
PF: BAZLEY, (Marek), Moyer
C: CHUKWU, Sibide

With Battle:
PG: HOWARD, Carey, HoWash
SG: BATTLE, Hughes, Boeheim (RS?)
SF: BRISSETT, Marek, (Hughes)
PF: BAZLEY, (Marek), Moyer
C: CHUKWU, Sibide

Looking pretty good. Biggest thing that jumps out to me is the guard depth. If Battle returns I wouldn’t be surprised if with HoWash or Buddy redshirt (just one). Really interested to see Hughes. He’s a bit of a wild card.

I see Marek playing the super 6th man role. Interesting to see if Moyer can make a leap in the offseason.

Feels good to have a solid core and some depth again. We’ve turned a bit of a corner the past few weeks. Future looks bright!

I think you are mostly on the money. I would just say I think probably Bazley at 3 and Brissett at 4 instead of the other way around. I expect like you for Hughes to be used at the 2 and 3, especiall if Battle stays he may get most of his minutes at the 3.

If they find another 5, this will be the deepest team in years. None of these 4s are guys that really slot into 5, and Sidibe's knees are always going to be a problem for him.
They seem to expect the issue to be solved with his surgery. I hope so because I think Sidibe will be an extremely good player. Take a look at the very early season games. Tremendous athlete and skilled offensively.

Bazley will never play the 2.

But he certainly handles like a guard, I'll grant you that.

I agree with you. He often plays some point for his HS team. Tremendous handle, but he won't be playing there for SU.

Curious as to how you know hughes isn't a shooter? This based off his freshman year that he was limited during due to injury? Or do you know how he has done practicing this year with the team and what his game is like? I haven't heard anything about what type of game he has during his time practicing with our team this year except for that he is really good and pushed tyus.

Hold on to it with both hands.

Defend it, scream for it, explain it, fight for it.

Then don’t be upset when it doesn’t happen.

‘Cause it won’t ;)

Baz will never come off the floor except for foul trouble. Marek's primary comp for playing time will be Osahe.

If Bazley always plays the forward spot and never sits, then Marek is not getting playing time at the 3/4 next year because Brissett wouldn't be sitting either. Obviously Marek will be getting playing time so someone actually gets rest like a normal team and/or JB gets creative with lineups.

Next season we should have enough depth and talent to have an O team and a D team.

Possible O team:

Baz, Oshae, Marek, Carey, Howard - could be enhanced by Buddy from trey range, Hughes is a wildcard on O. Chuk needs to improve his hand strength, if he can do that maybe he can factor in on O.

Possible d team:

Chuk, Oshae, Marek, Hughes, Howard - could be enhanced if Carey can get enough steals and transition breakouts, Baz is a wildcard on D.

Sid can play a support role on both sides of the ball.

Unfortunately, I simply do not see where Moyer or Washington will really fit into a regular rotation. Matt is decent on D, but to get minutes as a D role player he will need to greatly improve his rebounding, and he will also have to become at least enuf of an o threat for foes to pay attention to him. Washington plays solid and smart, but he really lacks 2g size and strength and PG quickness. Only way i see him getting regular rotation minutes is if he can become a deadeye specialist from trey range, but that is really Buddy's role & Buddy is bigger.

If by any chance Ty comes back that will shake up everything.

Look, I get that we potentially have two ultra talented forwards next season, but I'm going to be pissed off if we see more of this 38+ minute per game garbage.
If Bazely’s as good as advertised and Oshae improves i’ll enjoy watching them for 35 a game (its just what JB does) and seeing Hughes and Dolezaj fill in when breathers are needed. I agree though would rather see 32-35 than 38 a game

Totally agree, in some ways next year's team will be a bigger challenge for Jimmy. This year he had no strings to pull & it was just a matter of coaching up 5 or 6 guys.

Next season, he will have to be a puppetmeister to get the most out of the available talent.

Next season we will have depth. We should put a soft press on opponents every possession. Make em work to get the ball upcourt, generate a few extra TOs & transition points, shorten the time in the Zone.

There will be no excuse to ever see anybody on the court next season wo fresh legs.

Would think there is a 90% chance Washington redshirts.

Doubt Buddy will.

Sidibe's knee worries me.

Washington redshirting is a no brainer. Won't be 100% ready until middle of the year at the earliest anyway, plus with Howard/Carey/Boeheim/Hughes, how many minutes are there for him?

Sidibe's knee should be fixed by surgery. Sounds as though it's not nearly as bad as Coleman's. He should be ready to go by fall, and I'd expect him to be a lot better.

Yeah, but remember the 3 and 4 are mostly interchangeable in JB’s system. Regardless, they’ll both be on the floor for a lot of minutes. I can see a 3 forward rotation with Marek soaking up most of the minutes, with Moyer spelling during non-crunch time and foul trouble.

I expect the biggest impact of the added depth is we pick up our pace on offense and actually get out and run a bit more. Couldn’t run this team because of the lack of depth, not to mention Chuk and Sidibe’s bad wheels.

Everyone is saying he’s a well rounded player. Doesn’t mean he excels at shooting (if he was lights out we’d have heard by now)... he just needs to shoot it well enough to improve spacing.

After what has happened the last few years with kids leaving/getting hurt all the way to 6 games into the season, why even attempt predicting? I could ask a mathimatican friend what are the number of possibile combinations of 5 you can get with 11 and that could be your lineup.

Marek will be first of bench at forward.

You’re a wet blanket of fun ;)

Three things of which I am certain. 1. IF Marek is here, he starts. 2. Unless Buddy gets hurt, he plays. 3. The roster will look at least 2 men different into next season.
