2019 Coaching Carousel

Rutgers needs the horses to compete in the Big 10(especially the east which is a brutal schedule to play).
Schiano is being very strategic with his hires. If the staff can recruit the way I think they will they will be worth every dollar. Getting Rutgers competitive again(along with the full share BIG money coming soon) should make the Athletic Dept self sufficient...
"competitive again"

"make the athletic dept self sufficient"

Hey man, I have a great deal on a bridge if you're interested in buying...

Campanile's experience is HS, then Rutgers for WR/TE, then BC with DBs, 1 year as a CoDC, then 1 year coaching Michigan's LB's. He might be a bright up and comer but there's not a lot there to hang the hat on in terms of coordinating a defense in the Big10.

Gleason was at OkState for 1 season. 1 4-Star kid from California signed with Oklahoma State this year. Maybe because of Gleason or maybe because of Gundy and Oklahoma State. Who are the other 'multiple 4 star QBs recently.' ?

Fraser? lol. Schiano's getting a lot of the rutgers band back together. Hope it works out for the NJ taxpayers.

There is a reason Harbaugh is trying to keep Campanile on staff. And lets face it, if he needed a little guidance running a Big 10 defense Schiano would be there to help him.

Gleeson was responsible for signing 4 star Brevin White over Alabama and many others while at Princeton and rivals 250 4 star Shane Illingworth at Ok St.

i think it's fair to say that they now have a much better recruiting staff at the minimum. It's okay to admit that and hope that Dino tries to upgrade our staff and bring in another good recruiter or two. McCloud is a good start, as I can't remember him bringing in anyone in 4 years (though I could be forgetting someone).

Brevin is going to Princeton for Princeton. Come on.

Thought the same. A 4 star QB who chooses Princeton isn't going there because of any particular coach. Its the school and education. Good for him on making that decision.

I agree Schiano is focusing on getting a staff of recruiting specialists. I see too much focus on recruiting and not enough on all the other aspects of coaching.

Glad you are excited. Hope to see some fans in the stands when Syracuse plays Rutgers next season.

I'll be there. I'm interested to see how Tommy Devito has developed since watching him in high school several times...think Cuse should win that one.

This post is horrifying. Lots of "ifs" and "shoulds" in there

I don't think it's fair to say that at all. Who knows? We've finished higher than them in recruiting the last 2 years and lead this year. Maybe they get a new coach bump? Maybe?

They've had a dead coach walking the past 2 years. We need to up our game.

For argument’s sake let’s say Shady knocks it out of the park with recruiting. Do you think he will straight up beat OSU, PSU and UM or will they be three built in losses annually? Shady isn’t exactly known for his in game coaching prowess.

if he beats them then they get a new coach and back he goes.. they have a tough road made tougher because some of the other b10 schools have stepped up their games while he was gone.

Will be very tough to catch up to those established blue blood programs and think its unrealistic for Rutgers to pass any of those three even if his recruiting strategy works. They may be able to knock one off here and there though in a few years. I think they can become an Iowa/Mich State type program if they bring in the talent though. It will take time but is possible if they bring in the players they will be targeting. Think Schiano has proven to be a solid D/Special teams coach. If he can get someone in to run an innovative O(think he's trying with Gleeson) will go a long way in helping them succeed.

It's pretty tough to argue with this stuff with a new (old) hire. It will take a while to see if any of it works - I'd be cautious in that the track record for Rutgers, even Shiano led-Rutgers - is not great historically. It's always "now we'll realize our potential" - it's hard to take it seriously after a while.

When we say "we are trying to get back to where we were" at least it refers to a pretty good program for a nice chunk of time...

Yes as a LB coach. Not as a defensive coordinator. Because of that I'd guess it's more to do with his ability to recruit because LB coaches are a dime a dozen.

If he's a good recruiter that's great (I wish we had a couple of better recruiters) but at the end of the day you need guys who can coach and coordinate.

Thamel is reporting that Leach is headed to Miss State.
