2022-23 Portal Cup

Too many kids in the portal aren't going to find a good landing spot.

Yup. Just like last year.

The grass isn’t always greener.
In fact, there may not be any grass at all.

A lot of these kids end up screwing themselves, and losing out on a free college education in the process.

Nice reminder that patience could pay off. Also shows the daunting amount of work that the staff needs to do to navigate this shift if we want to come out on the plus side.

Any idea what percentage of total players this represents? Were any stats published from last year? Namely, how many kids got left out completely?

There are some figures at the end of the 2021-2022 Portal Cup thread but not a final tally.

Here are some figures for 2021-2022 All4SU

Thanks. I knew I just had to ask the right person.

So….
1) Most kids do not find success in the portal.
2) Most kids do not get significant NIL monies.
3) Most kids never get to earn and NFL paycheck. (And by MOST I mean the vast majority.)
4) Many kids don’t get their degrees. Many of those who do get worthless degrees that do not prepare them for a career outside of sports.
5) Many kids finish out their 4 or 5-year hitch playing football and are right back where they started.

Someone tell me again why colleges should be the ones operating big money football franchises and how it’s all about the players.

I know it doesn't guarantee a thing after the bowl, but nice to see the names Wax and Shrader
I'm looking at dates. Portal is only open until 1/18. First day of classes at SU is 1/17. Any of the kids playing in the bowl game next week would have to do it soon after the game.

Dino referenced twice in the signing video the portal period being Jan 4 - Jan 7... What's he mean ?

I think he means that transfers have an extra four days to sign those days that HS grads don't have.

I have no idea. I looked around and couldn't find anything with those dates. Mid-year JUCO transfers have from 12/21 to 1/15 to sign.

Just curious, where did you see that?
That's how I interpreted what Dino was saying in his presser yesterday about transfers and being able to sign. I haven't had a lot of time today to Google around and confirm.

I'm wondering if he is talking about Mid Year JUCO transfers in the portal. Registration for new undergraduates at SU is 1/14.

I think I found what he was talking about. If I read this correctly we will see some ovs for midyear transfers the days he mentioned in January. I had posted this in the recruiting calendar thread on the recruiting forum but never saw where the proposal was passed.

Also, a uniform five-day quiet period will replace the existing seven-day quiet period before the start of classes of a school's second academic term. The new quiet period will begin on the Wednesday before the first Saturday in January for two-year and four-year college transfer prospective student-athletes who intend to enroll at midyear.
