I wonder what the D1 component of the "1,000 players that have entered the portal" is. Only because the 74,000 number that is quoted is D1+D2+D3. The corresponding D1 number is 29,206.

That 29k includes non scholarship. There are 11050 FBS Scholarship players

It depends on whether their present team will allow it. I would imagine most of the players will choose to opt out.

Maybe the 85 scholarship limit is too high when 10% or so each year for each team is considered an acceptable loss from rosters. I also wonder if there should be a separate ‘portal’ for walk ons and grad students.

"The Portal" is not the problem any more than a social media post of a player wants to move is. It didn't cause all the movement between teams; it just reports that there are players interested in moving. The cause of the turmoil is the end of the requirement to sit out a year when a football or basketball player transfers. Everyone applauds that things are now equitable between the players and coaches in regard to moving. This is what that equality means.

That’s a good sign. My biggest concern is are we considered a desirable destination? The players that can be difference makers are probably not coming to SU. The portal is great if you are able to upgrade talent, not just keep the status quo.

You can transfer as much as you want. But only the first one and the grad transfer have instant eligibility. Otherwise, you just sit out a year, like the old rule.

SU has two four star SEC transfer Qbs.

I guess they aren’t difference makers.
