2022 Coaching Carousel

West Virginia will keep football coach Neal Brown for the 2023 season, the school announced on Wednesday.
The decision comes in the wake of a 5-7 season that saw the Mountaineers win two of their final three games, upsetting both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Brown has had just one winning season in four years, and he has an overall record of 22-25.

Brown would have been owed nearly $17 million if fired. That remaining guaranteed money is one of the reasons that the school fired athletic director Shane Lyons in mid-November. That contract still runs through 2026, which means a buyout of nearly $13 million at this time next year.
That buyout is enormous and I love the fact that WVU will be saddled with Brown for (likely) two more years.

Huge state school in prime recruiting territory, no crazy fan base demanding 10 wins first year, warm weather. I bet UCF (comparable school) is looking pretty good to Scott Frost about now.

He would make more money but he is moving to the lowest conference, which is a step down.
All of my information comes from the podcast Split Zone Duo, so I don't want to continuously shill for it. But the salary capabilities and the strong probability of winning the conference every year make it very attractive. And that's not me saying that.

I don't think it will happen but the name Sean Lewis is being thrown around inner circles for the UC (Cincinnati) opening.

They have had success with former MAC coaches in the past such as Brian Kelly (left for Notre Dame) and Butch Jones (left for Rocky Top.)

He could kill it there.

he looks to be the favorite to get Cinci job which would be great for him. I think he will do well there although some think fickell didn’t leave the cupboards stacked with talent. Hope he gets the job. The cinci fans seemed pissed about Lewis coming aboard which is odd to me. He’s done pretty good rebuilding a dead program

Cinci moran fans are pissed? Everytime the administration has hired a coach there it has been a homerun.

When these schools start throwing around that kind of money the Syracuse admins must get anxious.
Freeze had just signed a 40-50 million dollar contract with Liberty so Auburn must have had to buy that out giving them a nice pot of cash for a new coach.

Liberty could dominate CUSA and make the playoffs every year with the 12 team format. They have money for NIL.
No team from CUSA is going to make the playoff. Plus, Liberty is going to be a revolving door of coaches taking the cash and moving on.

Tommy Tuberville was not a homerun. He did well at first though left them at 4-8.
