Braves lose Adam Duvall for the season to a wrist injury

Tough loss. Deep team though and could find help still. Plus he was only batting. 213 and 6th on the team really in terms of production at the plate.

He had a really slow start but had started come on lately. Fortunately Michael Harris is showing to be the real deal so far. Be good if the Eddie Rosario from last years playoffs showed up again. I would surprised to see the Braves make any significant moves before the deadline. They can afford it but the payroll is already higher than I expected this year.

That’ll be interesting if it’s still within 2 games or so when that 5 game series starts at the beginning of August.

Braves had an awful loss to the Phils last night.

Stott hit a 3 run HR off Minter in the bottom of the eighth to set up a come from behind victory.

Maybe there are some cracks forming in the Borg-like Braves?

Going back to the Mets, gotta think Dom Smith is about to be dealt. Trade him for Colin Holderman, who we can get him back. The Pirates get a lefty hitter 1st baseman, and the Mets get back a badly needed relatively young relief pitcher.

That probably won't happen but I am hoping the Mets can get a young, controllable and healthy relief pitcher for Dom. They are surely going to go after a lefty after the disastrous Castro for Rodriguez trade.

Andrew Chafin seems like a fair trade and would be a great fit.

Sounds like the Cubs really like Dom. I wonder if they would part with Givens or Robertson?

Don Buford, (after hitting a home run in the top of the first in Game 1, 1969): "You ain't seen nothing yet! Bud Harrelson: "First inning, first game - neither have you!"

Just a general baseball opinion, (even though my Mets just lost an appeal on this), but I don't think it should be a "hit by pitch" if the ball hit the ground first.

A pitcher, (Diaz) who has struck out 51% of the batters he's faced this year faced a batter, (Gallo) who has struck out 38% of the time.

Guess what happened?

Aaron Judge is 6-7, Pete Alonso 6-3. That's what they say.

Judge is a big unit.

Thought the biggest play of the game might have been when the Yankee shortstop (Isiah Kiner?) got picked off by Walker. Seemed to really deflate the Yankees. Marte's homer was close.

The best play of the game was the catch by the guy on the concourse in the left field bleachers who caught Escobar's home run backhanded (with a beer in his other hand, which he did not spill).

Not sure if Walker got excited and overthrew when he left those two fastballs up high over the middle of the plate to Judge and Rizzo. He got back to keeping it low after that and had much better results.

Was especially impressed when Walker went out for the sixth inning (I think he was already over 80 pitches) and was able to shut the Yankees down one more inning. He has been impressive pretty much all season. Getting through six was really needed after Eppler traded Holderman. Not much left besides Diaz and Ottovino.

Which makes it important for Scherzer to get deep into the game tonight. No way Diaz or Ottovino can go after last night. In a perfect world, Max goes 8 innings and Lugo does the ninth inning.

It is getting scary when Drew Smith gets into games these days. Tommy Hunter is probably option #2, then Smith or Williams. Or maybe Yoan Lopez.
ABR (anyone but Rodriguez).

Let's assume Jake does well today and joins the rotation next week.

Do you go to a six man rotation and give Max and Jake (and the other starters) an extra day of rest?

Or make Peterson a much needed left handed reliever?

All of the starters are pitching well right now. Those extra days of rest could really help the starters stay fresh late in the year.

Really excited to see what Megill can do as a relief pitcher when he comes back, hopefully in a couple of weeks. Sounds like May is about a week away.

The pitching staff could be a lot better around mid August.

DeGrom has walked 3 and given up two homers, and Alvarez whiffed and almost threw it into the outfield twice on stolen bases.

Same pattern as the first game: DeGrom's fastball looks fine but his breaking pitches aren't what they should be. He seems to be experimenting with them to see what works and what needs work. His fastball has been in the 95-96 range, so he's holding back a little on that, which seems like a good idea. But he's got 6 strikeouts in 3 innings. (He was three up 3 down in the 3rd and 4th innings. He'd thrown 66 pitches so they pulled him out at that point. he got 12 guys out, gave 3 walks and two hits, both home runs with those 6sko's.)

Alvarez is now 4 for 36 at the plate with 17 strikeouts.

Cool to watch a potential HOF pitcher face a potential HOF catcher(Salvador Perez) with the #1 prospect in MLB behind the plate, regardless of any struggles today though.

Both catchers are from Venezuela too.

Later in the game Alvarez ripped a double down the left field line. He has a compact swing and appears to have an exceptionally quick bat.

He also threw a runner out trying to steal second. The guy had a huge lead but he threw from his knees and delivered a laser to get him.

I missed when Jake was throwing completely. The announcer said comparing his two Syracuse starts, he threw more types of pitches this time and even mixed in a curve or two.

By the end of tomorrow we should have a good idea how his body reacted and whether he is going to be able to make his next start for the NY Mets.

If they go with a six man rotation, they can give Max an extra day and Jake an extra 2 days before their next starts. Walker gets an extra day too.

Wednesday, July 27th Scherzer
Thursday, July 28th travel day
Friday, July 29th Bassitt
Saturday, July 30th Carrasco
Sunday, July 31st Peterson
Sunday, July 31st Walker
Monday, August 1st Scherzer
Tuesday, August 2nd deGrom
Wednesday, August 3rd Bassitt
Thursday, August 4th Carrasco
Friday, August 5th Peterson
Saturday, August 6th Walker
Sunday, August 7th Scherzer

or just skip Peterson, go with a 5 man rotation and do this...

I would go conservative with a six man rotation, at least for a bit. The trade deadline is, I believe, next Tuesday. A big consideration might be if the Mets are able to get some bullpen help between now and then.

I'd go with 5 guys, Peterson as a deluxe long reliever and let's see if McGill can be a set-up guy.

Interesting comment from the ESPN announcers: "If they used Robo-umps, Alvarez would be up here now."

Is Alvarez getting screwed by the Umps?

Missed that part of the game, but I suspect they were discussing Alvarez’s ability to frame pitches. Or lack there of.

That is pretty crazy timing. Talk about getting your money's worth!

However this one works out, Lugo looks like Lugo again.

Atlanta Braves - hottest team in baseball! Mets go to Atlanta and win 2 of 3.

New York Yankees - best record in baseball! Mets sweep a 2-game series.

We've got "the right stuff".

Gained a game on the Braves, earned at least a season split with the Yankees, and deGrom looks poised to return next week. Not a bad couple of days.

Hopefully once it's business for real deGrom is back to his old self.

Nice little two game stretch to regain some momentum and make the Yankees fans a little salty.

Judge hit a ball 423 feet, then went 1 for 8 with a single and a walk.

I do get a charge out of the Yankees fans on my timelines clamoring for more offense and bats. Mind you of course they are only 13th in BA but solidly #1 in RBIs, HRS and OPS.

Walker is 11th in the league in ERA and Max would be 4th if he had pitched enough to qualify.
