2022 Mets thread

I lay there in my lawn chair, watching the sun go down and I'm thinking...

We're up 3 1/2 games so I figure if we lose all 5, we'll be down 1 1/2 games. if we win 1, we'll be down 1/2 game. If we win 2, we'll be up 1/2 game. We win 3, we'll be up 1 1/2 games. If we win 4 we'll be up 2 1/2 games and if we win all five we'll be up 3 1/2 games. But that's where we are.

I tried this. : We're up 3 1/2 games. if we win the first one, we'll be up 4 1/2 games. If we then win the second one, we'll be up 5 1/2 games. If we win the third one, we'll be up 6 1/2 games. If we win the fourth one, we'll be up 7 1/2 games. If we win the 5th one, we'll be up 8 1/2 games...

The sun made it over the horizon OK.

As Tom mentioned, I think your math is off in those scenarios in the top paragraph but regardless, should be a good series even if I'm not hoping for the same result as Mets fans.

Hahaha the head scratching logic SWC is throwing at us in the first instance doesn't take into account that each fewer loss from the initial 5-loss scenario requires you to bump up the number of games we are back by 2 instead of one. It's one fewer loss and one more win and the opposite for Atlanta.

Yeah it works if you are talking about what we gain or lose but not total.

Looking at the Mets-Braves series in a little detail, here is what the matchups look like:

Thursday 8/4

Braves Wright 13-4
Mets Carrasco 11-4

Friday 8/5

Braves Anderson 9-6
Mets Walker 9-2

Saturday 8/6

Game 1

Braves Odorizzi? 4-3
Mets Peterson 5-2

Game 2

Braves Fried? 10-3
Mets Scherzer 7-2

Sunday 8/7

Braves Strider 6-3
Mets deGrom 0-0

The Mets miss Morton, the Braves miss Bassitt.

Some good pitching matchups. I am expecting a number of low scoring pitching battles, so it will probably be a series of 9-7 games.

One thing I know: the crowds at Citi Field are going to be loud.

Good see he is still trending the right direction. Also holy crap on the power with this kid.

"One day during the 1930s, the Pittsburgh Crawfords were playing at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, where their young catcher, Josh Gibson, hit the ball so high and so far that no one saw it come down. After scanning the sky carefully for a few minutes, the umpire deliberated and ruled it a home run. The next day the Crawfords were playing in Philadelphia, when suddenly a ball dropped out of the heavens and was caught by the startled center fielder on the opposing club. The umpire made the only possible ruling. Pointing to Gibson, he shouted, "Yer out -- yesterday in Pittsburgh!"

Two big dudes

Not big the way Aaron Judge is big, of course.

The Big Dudes have spoken!

OK. let me try this again...

The Mets are 66-38 and the Braves are 63-42

If the Mets go 0-5, then it's 66-43 vs. 68-42 and the Braves are up by 1 1/2 games
If the Mets go 1-4, then it's 67-42 vs. 67-43 and the Mets are up by 1/2 game
If the Mets go 2-3, then it's 68-41 vs. 66-44 and the Mets are up by 2 1/2 games
If the Mets go 3-2, then it's 69-40 vs. 65-45 and the Mets are up by 4 1/2 games
If the Mets go 4-1, then it's 70-39 vs. 64-46 and the Mets are up by 6 1/2 games
If the Mets go 5-0, then it's 71-38 vs. 63-47 and the Mets are up by 8 1/2 games

If tonight's 5-0 lead holds up, they can't catch us in this series.
If we go 5-0, they won't catch us this season.

3-0 and the guy bounces out on a checked swing...this could be our year!

Walker looked like he was limping coming off the mound. He caught a spike early in the first inning and insisted he wasn't hurt but went on to give up four runs. 0-4 before we get up.

Yeah he didn't look right at all

Not looking like our night. Alonso hits it to the orange line and Acuna catches it. Now Walker gives up two more runs. (I hope the Mets don't see it that way.)

Hopefully they see it as they gotta spot them one...

This is why yesterday’s win was so big. It negates the probable loss tonight. I’d be ok with having the same 3 1/2 game lead after the series as that’s five less games to worry about.

Exactly. Let them empty the clip tonight and get back on track.

On the positive side, Francisco Alvarez hit his 5th HR for Syracuse. And he has picked off a runner straying too far off the bag at first base. His BA is up to .194 now.

Gettin' interesting... 5-8 in the bottom of the 5th!

Good. I'm tired of Nido coming up in big situations.

I knew you guys weren't out of it with Ian Anderson on the mound. I just hate watching him pitch. Games take forever because he can't throw strikes and if he doesn't get rocked in the 1st inning, he will in about the 5th when he runs out of gas like tonight.

Down 5-8 with two out and two on in the 6th...

THE FAT MAN COMETH!

...and goeth. Pitching change. Can Canha do it?

Nope.

Canha is on a pace, (162/109), for 25 extra base hits and 51 RBIs.
