Could we play some first place teams, please? These last place teams are too tough...:(

Unfortunately, the Braves rarely lose to the bottom feeders.

First place from game one and possibly out of first by September 7th. Rough when you can’t hold on the last few weeks of the season. Not sure what’s going on with the offense. It’s like they switched up their strategy and it’s not working at all.

The train has derailed.

I like Montes de Oca as a prospect. Have written about him several times. Had no issues using him for an inning last night in a relatively close game (I think it was 4-2 when he entered the game).

Leaving him in for a second inning was strange. Why pitch him in the eighth? Wasn't a more experienced and reliable pitcher available?

To my eye, the Mets have stopped hitting situationally. Seems like everyone is trying to pull everything, and trying to hit homers. Would like to see players going opposite field. Would like to see players taking advantage of shifts.

Pete came up with runners on base in big situations a couple of times early in the game and like so many times in the last few weeks, he was not able to come through.

Marte was hit by a pitch on the knuckles and he is worried he has a fracture. That would be devastating.

Good to see McCann hitting the ball hit. He might have figured something out. Hope so.

This doubleheader today has suddenly become a big deal. I hope the Mets can rise to the occasion. Bassitt and deGrom have been pretty solid. I hope that continues.

Go back to the good fundamentals we've seen all year.

Bassitt was solid this afternoon.

Liked moving Pete to 2nd in the order. Marte is out so they had to do something. He has hit well there in the past and he had a good day today.

Naquin took Starling's place in RF and hit a 3 run HR. Not bad.

deGrom tonight. I feel a sweep of the doubleheader is imperative.

Go Jake go!

I just checked the Braves' score on ESPN. Why did I bother?

I remember when the newspaper would record doubleheader scores like this: Mets 5-10 Pirates 1-0.

Anyway, I feel better. I was unable to fully enjoy the glow of SU's rout of Louisville because the Mets, who I've watched all season, sudden tanked. But now they are playing like the team I'd been watching since April. The scales have fallen from my eyes.

We've got two more nights to go to bed with the Mets in first place, (both teams off tomorrow). Then we'll see what happens over the weekend, Mets at Marlins and Braves at Mariners, who have been playing well.

It was nice seeing Jake pitch great and going back to his full 4 pitch arsenal. I am not a doctor but I am guessing throwing more curves and changeups will put a little less wear and tear on his arm and might help him down the stretch. Not to mention make things tougher for hitters facing him.

Tough news with Max going on the DL. Hope he will be back around 9/20 or so. It was confirmed that Marte has a broken middle finger, but it is non displaced and there is hope he will be able to play with it, much like Francisco Lindor did when he broke his middle finger a month or two ago.

Guillorme played for the Syracuse Mets Tuesday and had last night off. Megill threw an inning of relief for the S Mets last night. Was solid again. Believe that was his second. I think the plan is to have him throw 5 times in relief and bring him up. So maybe Friday and Sunday and Tuesday and call him up on Wednesday. Thinking Guillorme will be back up by then as well.

Let's look at how the starting pitchers look with Max out for a while. The Mets starters are TBD right now but I think we can figure it out based on who has pitched recently.

We have a travel day today. Then we play 13 days in a row. This is the last long stretch of games played on consecutive days and it would be great if Max was able to step into the rotation to start the series with the Brewers.

Friday @ Miami Peterson (extra days of rest)
Saturday @ Miami Carrasco (normal rest)
Sunday @ Miami Walker (normal rest)
Monday Cubs Bassitt (normal rest)
Tuesday Cubs deGrom (extra day of rest)
Wednesday Cubs Peterson (normal rest)
Thursday Pirates Carrasco (normal rest)
Friday Pirates Walker (normal rest)
Saturday Pirates Bassitt (normal rest)
Sunday Pirates deGrom (normal rest)
Monday @ Brewers Peterson (normal rest)
Tuesday @ Brewers Carrasco (normal rest)
Wednesday @ Brewers Walker (normal rest)
Thursday Travel Day

If we win 10 of these 13, we are up to 97 wins. At that point, we will have 11 games left to get over 100. That is my goal for now.

The post-game talk was to the effect that making sure players are healthy for the playoffs is more important than winning the division, even if it means having to play an extra series and not having home field advantage. It would be painful to watch the Braves finally put us in the rear-view mirror but I think this is the right attitude.

I want them to win the division but I get it. Management is comfortable enough with the starting pitching when healthy to compete with anyone. We would have three home games in the wildcard round with deGrom and Scherzer pitching two of them. Having said that, I’d prefer extra rest days and home field in the NLDS.

it really comes down to will the Braves play at this crazy pace for like the last 100 games to pass the Mets.

Atl 62-24 since June 1st

Mets 52-34 60% is not bad thats 98 games and that wins almost every time 98 would win all but 2 of the 6 divisions this year and maybe not the 3rd..

Even now the Mets are like a game from having the 2nd best record in baseball and still not beating ATL.

Generally when winning 100 games is looking likely you aren't thinking you might not win your division...

"Keeping the train moving" is great but the long ball is quite a weapon:

Braves

Braves - Top 9th

Mariners

Mariners - Bottom 9th

Perfect time to run off 7 straight in this home stand and let Max take his time to be ready for post season play. Hoping by then the Brewers are out of the WC and fold like a cheap suit to get a couple wins there then it's the hapless A's. Keep pressure on Atlanta to keep pace.

Thank you Mariners!

Braves vs. Mariners - Box Score - September 10, 2022 - ESPN

I see Vientos has finally been called up. Maybe he can DH in place of the .152 hitting Darin Ruf.

Vientos had a frustrating start, going 0 for 5 with 2Ks. But he hit a couple ball hard to right and to left and popped out the other time. Ruf played right field and went 0 for 4. He's now batting .140 since he joined the Mets.
