That's what caught up to Ian Anderson in Atlanta this season. However, Ian Anderson is no DeGrom so he got sent back to AAA.
 
Braves crushed the Nationals tonight. Lead is 1 with 8 to play for both teams. Best case scenario, Mets are up 3 going into the Braves series. Worst case, they are down 1. Definitely makes for an exciting last week of the season.

It's been that dinosaur of baseball, an old-fashioned pennant race, one that goes on all summer, (ask Grandpa about them.) The new playoff set-up made who wins the division matter a lot.

DeGrom was basically perfect 2 starts ago and then the final 3 batters he gave up a 3 run homer.
Last start if mcneil doesnt fall down and give up a 2 run double on a fly ball. the next batter grounded out and a 4 run inning becomes a zero. He gave up a home run in the 3rd and that was all he allowed.. Walks killed him that whole game.
 
Regarding the Mets-Braves series we have all been looking forward to.

The Mets announcers were talking about Hurricane Ian and how it is forecast to play a major role in the weather during the series (which will be played in Atlanta). Being so close to the end of the season, there is almost no opportunity to make up any games lost to bad weather.

It is a shame such important games will be played in such bad weather.

FSU has already cancelled classes. They are scheduled to host a game and it might well be cancelled or postponed. I believe Clemson is also supposed to host a game that might be impacted.

This weekend could be a real mess thanks to Ian.

MLB got lucky the Rays and Marlins are on the road this whole week. Remains to be seen what happens over the weekend. There’s an extra day next Thursday but then zero time off before the wildcard series begins.

The four division set up with no wild card sure did. And we had a good chance that the championship of a summer sport would be decided in decent weather. We're likely to get November baseball this year.

An inch of rain Friday night. Saturday doesn't look good, either. They could possibly get in a wet double header Sunday. Could they re-schedule Friday for Thursday?
 
It would be just like the Mets to blow it at home vs Miami to hand over the lead before the weekend series even gets here. Off to a great start tonight...

Playing Miami in 'must win' games in late September brings back bad memories...

I kept waiting for some announcement that a game or games have been rescheduled for Thursday but so far, crickets. I was thinking that it might be to the Mets' advantage to not play those games but now it looks like we might need them to catch the Braves. :(

Tomorrow:
In New York: Walker 12-5 (3.53) vs. Luzardo 3-7 (3.57)
In Washington: Odorizzi 5-6 (4.61) vs. Gray 7-10 (5:17)

It would be great if they moved the start of the series up until Thursday, but MLB leadership doesn't seem to be the most forward thinking at times.

Odorizzi got rocked last time out. He hasn't been what I hoped at all when the Braves traded for him. So Mets have a good chance to pick up a game today if they win.

I've heard on talk radio today that the Braves are the ones that don't want anything moved or rescheduled.
 
Mets won in extras- my Braves lose in extras. Not a huge fan of important games being decided in this fashion.

But I’m also not a huge fan of playing a long game and wearing out the bullpen, so it accomplishes its purpose. Braves had 9 innings to score more anyway.
 
Wel that evening sure turned around. Another dismal Mets loss to a team with a losing record...except the Mets team we've been rooting for all year returns and makes one of the rallies they were always making early in the season, ties it up and wins it in the 10th while the Braves lose in 10 in Washington. we go into Atlanta with a 1 game lead!

Escobar drove in all 5 runs and was second in NL to Pete in September RBIs with 24. He turned out to be a good acquisition anyway. And Drew Smith looked like he did in April.

Basically, the playoffs begin NOW.

I've gotten used to the 'free' runner, even before tonight when it worked out for my team.

All we need is one win this weekend to clinch a tiebreak. That’s huge (assuming of course the Mets can take care of Washington next week).
