2022 Mets thread

One more dramatic come from behind victory. Seems like it has been a while.

Wanted to give props to Escobar for being so clutch in September and credit to Buck for staying with him so long. Escobar struggled for most of the season and the Mets had some seemingly better options, but Buck stuck with his guy.

Though it did look like Baty was going to be platooned or maybe win the job after he was called up. That injury to Brett might be actually helped the Mets.

It is nice that if the Mets can win even one game in Atlanta, they take the tiebreaker over the Braves. The tiebreaker could be the difference in this race.

98 wins. Not bad.

I have heard some radio guys say winning the division is more important for the Mets than the Braves. I agree. The Braves have won 4 in a row and probably 90% of the past 2 decades. It would be good to get a division title...it has been too long.

When you look at the rosters for these teams, the Braves are way younger. It is going to be tough for the Mets to keep fielding top notch teams given how many veterans are on the team. That new Cohen payroll tax level is going to be a problem.

Let’s hope for good weather and good baseball this weekend.

With ya.

They might as well have gone to penalty kicks. Or a pizza-eating contest. Because whatever they do in extra innings sure isn't baseball.
Yes! There are some opportunities to improve baseball. I won’t deny that. But the concept of having to do something, even if it’s an intentional walk, to earn your way on base- well I didn’t think that part was broken.

I think the Mets avoided the big trade in August to hold on to their top prospects in order to add more youth to their line-up next year. If they can come up with some young stars and sign them to long-term contracts the way the Braves did, they will have a better chance of competing with the braves in future years.

I wonder how the stock market slump has impacted how deep Steve Cohen's pockets are?

I wondered if Buck would go for an untried rookie in an important spot in this series but he seems to be looking for a right-handed bat against the Braves' left handed pitching.

DeGrom: 14 earned runs in his last 21 innings over four starts = 6.00 ERA. 6 home runs.

Need one out of next two to control our own destiny. Get it done Mets! (Preferably both games please)

The Braves are just better. Not that we entered this season thinking differently but they simply have more power. The HR ball wins them a lot of games and that story looks like it might win them the division.

Tomorrow is the single most important game of the season. Win tomorrow and the fate of the division rest in the Mets’ hands. A loss and we are most definitely playing a wildcard series and will have to go through both the Dodgers and Braves to get to the World Series. Tomorrow literally might determine the Mets chances of winning the World Series. Disappointing series so far but we knew all it takes is one to be on top again. Still a chance.

They aren't sweeping the Nats honestly while the Braves definitely will sweep the Marlins.

Yeah. You gotta get 1 of those first two games with your two aces out there. Going 0 for 2 is a huge letdown.

One phrase I don't want to hear against is "He's trying to win the game without his best stuff." We brought these guys together to make it impossible to sweep us and to allow us to dominate a short series. This is when they are supposed to show us why they won those Cy Young Awards.

We don't need to play home run Derby but we need one more big bat in our line-up to avoid the dry periods. (Please get us Ohtani, Steve...please?)

All three of our starting pitchers in this series have been sub-par - against a team you can't afford to be sub-par. Sigh...

The team was built around the starting pitching. They failed in the biggest spot possible. Blow it all up.

The biggest spot possible is in the playoffs. Certainly haven’t been good in this series but let’s give it a week before we talk about blowing it all up.

We still likely finish with 100 wins. Blowing it all up seems a little crazy. If not for Atlanta there isn't a complaint in the house. Just a bit of bad luck to have one of our best years in forever and Atlanta is also having one of theirs and coming off a WS win.

100% agree with all this. The Braves are the defending champions for a reason. We can still finish with 101 wins. 101! That’s a great, great season. We have seen the Mets play favorite all season. Now it’s time to see them play the underdog. Hopefully these guys are as fired up and angry as we are and smash the Padres in the mouth this weekend. Put some fear in the Dodgers who absolutely prefer the Padres over us. We pulled an upset over them in 2015 and can do it again, especially in a short series. Let the Braves worry about the Cardinals or Phillies. If we are in the NLCS against them, they aren’t going to be happy to see us.

Can the opposite happen and the Mets are completely deflated and get swept this weekend? Sure. I don’t think these guys are quitters though. Hoping for a completely different feel next Monday as we are headed to LA.

This is the only year for them to be competitive with all the pending FAs.

Props to the Braves. They played really well for a really long time and deserved to win. Made some great swings on some tough pitches and took advantage of mistakes well.

Alvarez was not ready for prime time.

Let's hope he does better against the Nationals pitching staff, which is more along the lines of what he has been facing in AAA.

Almost as if to tease us, the Braves get shutout by the Marlins 4-0 tonight. Mets are scheduled for a double header tomorrow but forecast is shaky so who knows if they get two in. If the Braves lose again tomorrow, Wednesday will be interesting.
