2023 NY Mets thread

Now come the post- Braves/Yankees let down - and we've already lost 9 of 11!
If they can’t take two out of three against an awful Cardinals team at home then I don’t know what to say about them anymore. This might be their one glimmer of hope to right the ship. Need some momentum going into Houston.

Vogelbach hit his first home run since April 17th.

I'm getting to like Tommy Pham. He's hitting .342 since May 28th. Buck says he's playing with something close to anger. Maybe his teammates will start to do the same.

Why would you trade Parada and Mauricio especially if you're not contending? If you trade Parada, you need to get a haul back in regards to prospects. The Mets minor league system is really bad. You don't move people to move them. Canha is in his walk year. Move McNeil to Left and promote Ronny to second.

Still another game where we stop scoring in the middle of the game.

Pitching continues to put them behind the 8 ball. They scored 7 runs. I don't know what more you can ask of the offense. Carrasco has to be a salary dump candidate at the deadline or an outright DFA. Let Lucchesi or Peterson take his spot in the rotation.

I hope they give him a better shot than Vientos.

11-1 over the defending champs. Scherzer goes 8 on 81 pitches. That's what it was supposed to look like.

Max Scherzer's rediscovered slider proves key in big win over Astros

The Mets are 22-3 when their starters complete the 6th inning. We just need more quality starts from the starters. We are 34-38 with 90 games to go. We just need to make the playoffs. We don't need to catch the Braves. The last three full MLB seasons a team from the NL East that got off to a lousy start wound up in the World Series. And two of them won it.

Grant Hartwig is an interesting story. Congrats to him for making it to MLB. Never would have happened if Drew Smith didn't get suspended for 10 games. Sigh.

Lucchesi has been really good at Syracuse and was just announced as the IL pitcher of the week. Heis now 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA for Syracuse.

Mauricio is a defensive liability right now at SS, 2B and OF. He needs to change that to get to and stay in MLB. Can't have him making a bunch of defensive gaffes, learning to play a position at the MLB level.

Megill gets bombed again. Working so missed most of what has happened to date but my impression is that Narvaez is not doing a good job calling pitches or playing defense in general.

Seems like a big drop off when he comes in for Alvarez, which is kind of shocking given he is a veteran and Francisco is a rookie,

Leone has been decent so far but did not help today.

On the positive side, Brigham has been impressive and might be an effective reliever long term. Raley has been generally solid and early returns on Josh Walker are very promising.

We might have 2 decent lefties in the bullpen.

I am guessing the Mets will continue to go with a five man rotation and replace Carrasco and Megill with Quintana and Lucchesi. At least for a while.

Hopefully they will be better. Looking more and more like Megill is better suited to be a relief pitcher.

Nice to see Diaz throwing again. If the reports he is already throwing 95 mph are right, maybe he will pitch this season. That would be a welcomed surprise.

My vote: Yes. The best defensive first baseman ever - and it's not close. I've always called him the "Brooks Robinson of the right side of the infield". The more I watch baseball games, the more I think defense has to do with the outcome. Also a .300 hitter in his prime, a batting champion and co-MVP, (probably should have the sole MVP and I was big Willie Stargell fan). Everybody's hung up on modern numbers but simple logic puts Keith in the Hall of Fame.

Gary Cohen: "There is no cure for bad pitching"

Me: Other than good pitching.

Taking a look- too.. we would be better off having paid to keep Stroman, Walker and Bassitt than the mess we have now.

There have been a disturbing number of awful decisions made. New blood is needed. Calling Mr Stearns to Interview Room 3….

Yep. Major worry too is pitching cupboard is empty. Don't want to trade too much firepower to beef up pitching to only then have an anemic offense

Any good will Cohen has left would be tossed out of the window. Alonso is one of the few homegrown players that the Mets have gotten right. Trading him would be the signal they're tearing it down and punting for the next few years.
