2023 PGA Tour

Tommy doesn’t have the guts. I can see why people don’t bet him.

one of these guys probably gets to 8-9.. Harmon needs 1 birdie on the 2 par 5s mostly likely to make it less stressful coming home

Harman's not choking yet. Faldo was really working overtime trying to keep viewers tuned in this morning with the idea he wasn't going to hold up.

Seems to have recovered nicely.

Harman's struggles on the first few holes yesterday and again today have largely been the only drama on the final 36 holes.

He was able to recover strongly both times. Outstanding for him -- less so for the viewers who want a closer competition. But that's not Harman's fault.

The 12 for 12 stat from 5 to 10 feet is fairly remarkable given all of those putts are while he was near or sitting on the lead.

if he gets to 18 more than 2 up he just hits whatever gets him into the fairway or he just hits left and then layups some place.

rahm and fleetwood avoiding bogeys the last 2 days is the key just 1 between them in 2 days of this stuff. Sepp making birdies but has 3 and Harmon has 4..
There are some fascinating stats regarding birdies. A scratch golfer makes 1.8 more birdies per 18 holes than an 18 handicapper. It’s all about limiting bad holes.

Jean van de Velde say hold my beer. Phil says, wanna bet?

an avg 18 probably makes zero on avg. I'm not scratch by far and I still expect to make 1-3 every rd of 18 holes though.

Most of the better golfers I know do limit bad shots. Most of them though its middle drivers and hit the greens with the occasional up and down and very few recovery shots since they never really hit many. They also limit 3 putts and hazard shots.

I think harmon might jump into the top 6 with this given the huge payout for first place. I think he goes up to 3rd . I will be interesting who ends up top 6 after this week.

I think the difference in pars would be much more telling (several more per round). A scratch golfer is getting significantly more GIR's than an 18 handicap, and getting many easy pars per round.

Its not only bad holes difference. An 18 handicap is just not hitting that many GIR's.

A little Syracuse mention, that was cool.

Several of them. I thought maybe he lived here, (Why hadn't I heard anything?), but his wife is from here and her family is still here.

Maybe a Newhouse guy was stressing this behind the scenes?

I've read that a scratch golf playing a US Open course would be about +10-15 for a single round.

Hmm, well there WAS a Newhouse guy on the telecast. Tirico is the best.

That in and of itself leads to bogeys and doubles

Especially if playing from the Open tees. Just played Pine Hurst #2. The caddies were showing us where the tees will be for the open.
Here is the scorecard with the Open yardages (and pars) listed.
Then, the greens were crazy fast and hard. They were at 12 when I played. They will be at 14 for the Open.
The plus side is the waste areas were pretty playable, but have to see how the USGA sets it up.

The real tournament is on at 5. Would really like to cash my long Champ tickets but Rodgers or Hossler would be fine, too.
