2024 bowl projections thread

and I would think a likely portal candidate if we bring in a portal QB to start over him. I'm sure there will be teams in his ear if that's the case.
Maybe - but the feeling is that a lot of the kids want to be here. There will be portal casualties everywhere, we’re not immune to that. And we’re working with a smaller bank account than the majority of the conference. These are real things.

I’d expect a portal QB regardless.

Conference winner (SMU or UM) to playoff, loser to Gator, Clemson to Mayo. I then see the possibility of Cuse, Vile, Puke and Schpitt all at 8-4. Four teams vying for Sun, Pop Tarts and Holiday. Someone's not going to have a chair and get Pinstripe, Military or Fenway.

8-4 not going to Fenway, there will be some 6-6 teams they will get. Pinstripe perhaps.

Not to hijack the thread but I’m wondering if J Williams has been running scout team and if he is impressing .
I’ve been wondering this too and would appreciate any insight. Unfortunately I think it is highly unlikely he could come close to replicating what they are getting at the position this year. Not his fault.

The CBS Soorts website said Nov 17. Maybe they meant the playoff projection is from Nov 17 and the other games haven’t been updated yet.
They usually update the whole projection on Monday. Sometimes even Tuesday. Only top 12 for the playoff on Sunday.

Sounds like pay for play which is supposedly against the rules.
Rules? We don’t need no stinkin’ rules!

Seriously, it’s not to hard to structure a deal that mandates personal appearances at a bowl site. Then if a player wants to opt out, don’t include him on the travel roster.

Agree. Isn’t there also an option to take out an insurance policy against a career killing injury?

Hoping that Lville loses to either Pitt or Kentucky and gets relegated

Sure there is. The bigger question is whether you want to spend limited NIL money to facilitate a bowl appearance from a player who has exhausted his eligibility or save it for retention purposes. Tough call.

Several bowls exist that I’m surprised we haven’t gone to in recent years due to repeat pinstripes, and being moved to non ACC bowls like Boca and Texas Bowl. I think 8-4 SU probably makes Mayo in Charlotte or Sun in El Paso. Mayo has so many teams within 3 hours of Charlotte they usually pick one of those. The Sun bowl has taken Pitt and BC recently and isn’t located in ACC country so it’s a good match for SU. Sun has lots of history, CBS Tv deal and a decent opponent.
Duke and UNC are already bowl eligible. Of the non bowl eligible teams left in that "local" circle here's their final games:
UVA (5-5): home SMU, @VT
VT (5-5): @Duke, home UVA
NC St. (5-5): @GT, @UNC
Wake (4-6): @Miami, home Duke

From those schedules it looks like VT and NC St. have the best chances to get bowl eligible and give the Mayo Bowl 4 teams to choose from. Here's the most recent ACC reps to this bowl:

2023 UNC
2022 NC St.
2021 UNC
2020 Wake Forest
2019 Va Tech
2018 UVA
2017 Wake Forest

UNC's been there 2 of the last 3 seasons so I don't see them going this year. If they took NC St. it'd be 2 of the last 3 but they had no problem doing that with UNC. Duke hasn't been there since 2012 so I could see the Blue Devils heading to Charlotte. Duke is 7-3 and their last 2 are home VT and @Wake so maybe a 8-4 Duke team is too good for this bowl. VT is also in this mix. Another possibility is 6-4 L'ville. They have a tough final 2 home Pitt, @Kentucky. Would a 6-6 L'ville get shipped up to NY or Boston? Bottom line they'll have plenty of local choices so I don't think SU goes to Charlotte. I hope SU gets Tony the Tiger/Sun bowl.

Both ESPN guys have us in the Gator Bowl. One has us facing Vandy, the other has us facing Tennessee. Don’t know if either SU or Tennessee would go for that with the Kickoff game set for next year

NC State is in trouble, Ga Tech is legit with King back and NC is red hot, that Hampton kid is unreal. I think Va Tech is the only one getting in from that group. I agree that we won’t go to Charlotte, you laid it out well
