2024 bowl projections thread

I’m sure that their wish, but they’ve taken 8-4 teams the last few years. Guess it all depends how everything shakes out
Yea 8-4 seems the most common record for ACC and PAC teams but more cases of 7-5 exist in the sun than 9-3. Pitt 8-4 two years ago would be similar to 8-4 SU. But yes it could shake out a bunch of different ways at top with trickle down effect.

I think any bowl game is going to factor in that McCord, Diggs, Gadsden at a minimum almost certainly won't play.

The regular season record means more to me these days than which bowl game. The playoffs had already diluted the bowls, now that it's a 12 team playoff? Will be even worse. It's good to play in them though because it's developmental.

While I think there’s a solid chance they sit out.

I think there is also reason to believe that they will all play in a bowl game.

It’s the type of mentality that Fran is building in this program

I dont see OG, Meeks, Allen or Diggs sitting out a bowl.

Kyle’s a different story

Need to hope for two ACC teams plus ND in the CFP. That will open things up in the top tier bowls for us.
Roadmap would be for SMU to win out then lose a tight game to a 10-2 Clemson team in the ACC Championship game. A 10-2 Miami team (see what I did there?) is the top non CFP team, then a 9-3 Syracuse is jumbled in with Pitt / Louisville winner and Duke. If Louisville beats Pitt, then loses to Kentucky we would be sitting pretty good.

It will be interesting to see the one off NIL deals that pop up to incent players to appear in bowl games. Sounds like some things are already in the works. A public appearance at a bowl site is a pretty obvious solution if the money is there.

Not to hijack the thread but I’m wondering if J Williams has been running scout team and if he is impressing .

Didn't we show up incredibly well for our bowl game at Camping?

I'm in France week of Christmas. Need a bowl game after Dec 28th. Please and thank you (that read like a Tristan post, my apologies)

We had a great showing at Camping world bowl

We also had a fantastic showing at UNLV which as crazy as it sounds, helps support that our fans will attend “destination” games

He is running scout. Lot of great tools. Young QB with upside.
and I would think a likely portal candidate if we bring in a portal QB to start over him. I'm sure there will be teams in his ear if that's the case.

I would love to see NIL carry over to Bowl game appearances in an effort to push top players to compete.

For one, if you have an NIL deal, it should include post-season. That benefits the school, brand and also the Bowl for viewership, betting integrity, etc.

It can also benefit the player. So many players over the year blew up because of Bowl performances……Barry Sanders, Andre Rison, etc.

My own take is the risk of catastrophic injury in playing in one extra game is really, really small so it is worth the risk. If players can also get an NIL bonus, that would only make it more tantalizing. For instance, Kyle McCord’s appearance in The Sun Bowl is brought to you by Wegman’s or Terrell’s, etc.

Plus, these guys are competitors and many of them would not want to abandon ship.

An X factor though would be for teams who have had disappointing seasons and wanting to start the youth movement since games dont count against the redshirt…..or you played for Brian Kelly and want to get as far away from him as possible.

Sounds like pay for play which is supposedly against the rules.
