2024 bowl projections thread

In theory yes.

But now a days these schools make back door deals etc to get to the game they want
I’m not really sure I see what leverage we’d have in that kind of discussion. Our win over Miami is painful to most of the ACC except for Clemson. Being that it cost them money, who is going to support SU wanting a better bowl as a reward? We’ve not played in a major bowl for a generation, though I think we travel pretty well. Recent memory isn’t our friend, with bad losses the last two bowl games. If some of our key offensive players sit out, are we still as interesting? What can JW offer that isn’t already on the table?

I live in Texas. It takes me a full day of solid driving to get to El Paso. Texas is so big. California is closer to El Paso than many parts of Texas.
Yea, it’s like 575 miles from me.

Camping world bowl (pop tarts now) in 2018 was not a small bowl by any means in terms of ACC pecking order. And we freaking packed that place. We will be in Florida or California for our bowl. It’s over 90%

Come on Gator!
Every situation is different, but Bo Nix did play in the Fiesta Bowl last year vs Liberty. And he seems to be doing fine as a rookie in the NFL. From this point forward as it pertains to the NFL, nothing is guaranteed. Getting drafted, making a roster, etc. If he opts out, he could’ve very well have played his last snap as a starter in competitive football (Ik he still has the senior bowl). It’s good though that he will be there for the experience regardless, but these are the real things to consider in this decision on whether to play or not.

Just my belief but I believe it will either be Syracuse v Florida in Gator or Miami v South Carolina in Gator

If Clemson doesn't make playoffs they get Duke Mayo

I keep seeing South Carolina in the Gator. Fits the profile, but they played ND in the Gator two years ago. Logically speaking, I don’t see that with the SEC’s multitude of bowl options. Plus, the Cocks had a special season and their AD/Fans won’t want to celebrate that with an Encore appearance.

Yeah, so we should say:

GO, COCKS!!!!

(To another bowl)

Sun Bowl, Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, all iconic. I don't have a lot of "bucket list" venues. Made the SU game at Tiger Stadium a few years back. Hit Wrigley this summer. Not many left. Fran Wildhack, get me to the Sun!
Ordinarily I'd be right there...this year I have family coming in on the 31st.

This article from the Florida Times-Union provides some good insights into the Gator Bowl situation. Hints we are in if Clemson wins. Note the concerns over UM’s ability to bring fans and the expectation Cam Ward will not play.

It was published yesterday morning. I think it is significant in that this is the Jacksonville newspaper.

It seemed like about 2-3 years ago when all the Alabama players played in a bowl (Sugar?) against Kansas State. Don't recall any of them getting hurt or worry about that. It's a shame, as I believe McCaffrey started this opt out crap and then it became a big trend.

We should all be rooting for Clemson is really the thing. They win, Gator it is.

I know why us core fans dont want the Pinstripe again but the reality is, the bowl likes Syr. and fan support in the city is always good. Plus, the team is a lot more popular with alums this year than others so if it helps with fundraising, I'm all for it. But it seems like a lot has to go wrong for us to end up there.

Your right with everything you said it’s just I feel like a 9 win team with one of the best offense in all of CFB, one of the best QB’s and WR corps in all of CFB…… should be in a higher profile bowl. And that’s no offense to the Pinstripe because other than the field and some seating areas, it’s a great bowl. But it’s not a bowl this years SU team should be in. IMO.

I’d be kind of surprised if Clemson was in Duke Mayo since they are in Charlotte this weekend for ACC championship. Yes they’d still pull decent tickets because of local fan base and proximity to campus but gotta think a lot of fans wouldn’t want to do same stadium 2 games in a row plus a let down from higher expected bowl aspirations.

Another piece of key info that I tried to convey (not as well as the article does) is the regional aspect of the Gator’s SEC slot. Missouri is not coming to the Gator. There are 2-3 bowls the Tigers are closer to geographically. That is why UF is, to me, the most logical choice for the Gator and in turn, SU would be their most logical opponent (SU>Duke). Gator Bowl Exec Director Greg McGaritty was the longtime UGA Athletic Director and I guarantee he is friendly with ADJW (likely from the ESPN days). He’s also more in the media space that ADJW, that is why the newspaper’s prediction of UF-SU is so telling. It is what McGarrity believes (as if Friday) is the most likely scenario.

So if SU fans want the Gator and it’s stand alone Jan. 2 time a lot (and a good chance that McCord chooses to play), then we want SMU to beat Clemson. Yea, that would hurt us and the rest of the ACC financially (one team in the CFP, not two), but with where we are as a program, for me, the Gator is the best outcome for Fran damn Brown.

Lastly, I suspect that McCord had told ADJW and Fran he will play in the Gator Bowl. SEC opponent, good exposure, warmer weather (Jacksonville can get cold in early January), NFL field, etc. And in turn, I would guess that ADJW has conveyed that to McGarrity.

That’s the read.

So SU is competing directly with UM for a slot in one of the two nice Florida bowls.

Miami is a reasonable drive to both, their team had a great year, they have a big name Heisman candidate at QB.

All the experts have them in before Syracuse.

But even casual college football fans know Cam Ward is not playing in the bowl game. Or Resrepo and probably all their other star senior players.

If word somehow got out that the star SU players would play in a bowl, but only the if it was someplace warm, does anyone think that might impact what the bowls decide?

Pretty sure that interview was part of Operation Florida, a plan to get SU into out of the Florida bowls.

Let’s see if it works.

Just repeated many of your thoughts. I like where your heads at.

At least 2-3000 IIRC
You’d know better than me. Whats a reasonable expectation crowd wise if Cuse got the Sun Bowl? Id expect 10-12,000 given location

I was told to root for Clemson. They’re the competition not Miami. But the Jacksonville article makes good points so I don’t know what to think. Unless there’s a domino effect from Clemson not being in CFP that moves Syracuse down without Clemson being in the Gator. That likely means Florida wouldn’t play and Miami could be a possibility.
