2024 Holiday Bowl- Syracuse vs. Washington State December 27th, 8pm ET

It has (almost) nothing to do with donors.

It does have to do with fans.
And alumni.
And players’ families.
And croots.

And SD is a distant 3rd behind the 2 FL bowls we were in play for, on every. single. metric.

  • We have basically zero alumni in SD.
  • We have nearly zero recruiting in SD.
  • We have no players from SD, so no player families & friends & former teammates and classmates who can easily attend the game.
  • Flights from NY metro area & Cuse are few and very expensive, vs FL which has ooodles of cheap direct flights from all over the Northeast.
  • Hotels in SD are on the spendy side compared to FL.
  • WAZZOU is a zero-buzz, no name, no conference opponent who limped into the end of the season, played almost nobody, and beat nobody. vs
  • Our FL bowls opponent would be a name from a P4 conference, and also with a # after their name. In a hotbed recruiting area, where we also have a ton of alumni.
  • McCord & others likely play vs a name opponent. I’d imagine most if not all Seniors / NFL aspirants will sit this game out.
  • The field At Snapdragon Stadium is apparently awful. Huge injury risk for those who do play. Hence more opt-outs.

San Diego is a lovely city, in spite of being named after a whale’s vagina.

But it’s a distant 3rd of the 3 bowls we were in contention for,
And the Cougars are a negative buzz opponent.
And it’s hard & expense to get there and stay there.
Stop making sense. How dare you post your opinion on a fan board and offend the same contrarian poster/s who are always right.

I’ll be there and bring at least 8. It’s a good bowl. Players get San Diego at Christmas. I do not see a lot of opt outs.

We lost at home to a miserable Stanford, lost at BC to a midlin BC, and really blew the pooch at Pitt.
We got the bowl we probably deserve. I unfortunately can not see a way to go to this one. Bad date, and distance for me and my group.
Wish the best for the team and all who can go. Need this to be a win.
The problem isn’t the holiday bowl; the problem is the opponent. It should have been Colorado; then it would’ve been a great sold-out matchup.
The best thing that can happen is we all realize San Diego’s a paradise and that despite the opponent, a big orange crowd traveling cross country will improve perception.

We will need improved national perception if a miracle occurs and we get 7 or 8 wins next year. Maybe then a bowl will be willing to take a shot on us because of how well we show, rather than relegating us to the pinstripe
during our heyday in the 80s and 90s this was Syracuse‘s reputation as a fan base that traveled really well. I think that got us into a few higher seated bowl games in that era

Yeah I don’t get this nonsense. It’s a winnable bowl game against a decent opponent, it gives Fran a great opportunity to get to 10 wins in his first year and that will definitely pay dividends on the recruiting trail. Plus, it’s an opportunity for some of our second team to play against a decent but not overpowering opponent.

We do miss out on recruits being able to attend a game in Florida, but what good is playing a pretty good SEC opponent in Florida without McCord and OG and getting blown out in front of recruits? Been there done that last year.

I mean people are posting how they are worried about how a west coast bowl game will affect fundraising and donor base. lighten up Frances, watch the scrimmage and move on. if you are out of the 12 team playoff your season is all but over other than what is now become a complete joke of a bowl system.

last Im going post to on any of it. I’m all done discussing this ridiculous nonsense. 9-3 great first year, time to put the season to bed

Can't wait to see what backups/young players take advantage of the opportunity. Competition never stops under Fran. I'm excited.
That's a good way to look at it. Tucker opting out was our first chance to see what Allen could do a couple years ago. Hopefully we see some positive signs about who is next up if anyone opts out this year.

It’s laughable that at this point in the season so many posters think they know what’s best for this program.

If memory serves I’m not sure any of you fools even knew who Fran Brown was a year ago. Yet here we are 9-3 and ranked 21 in the CFP.

Lets say just say hypothetically Fran Brown wasn’t on board with the Holiday Bowl and thought we got shafted, he’d do something about it. Does he strike you as someone that’s just going to bend over and not say anything.

Fran likes to motivate our guys by showing examples of when we’re being disrespected. Maybe he plays that card to keep our team motivated. Or maybe it’s just simple dollars and timing we wanted. They’ve earned our trust.

One thing I do know is that we are gonna stomp the last of the Pac12 into oblivion and get that 10th win.

Also, everyone should take a look over the bowl schedule. For the most part, these games stink. Mediocre locations, expensive travel days, boring opponents.

You’d rather be playing Minnesota in Charlotte 2 days after New Years? Washington in El Paso on New Years Eve day? East Carolina in Annapolis?

We’re also playing on FOX broadcast in prime time. That’ll be a 3 hour informercial about how SU football is back, viewed by I’m guessing 10+ million people.
Yeah. I'd rather have a game with a favorable TV time slot than anything else since traveling is out ofmthe question with my job.

They actually have Hodad's at Snapdragon Stadium.
I had crack shack chicken at snapdragon when I saw G n R last year. Great food selection at the stadium and the convenience of the trolley is awesome.

Are you serious? we haven’t played in Florida once this year (a huge recruiting area). We already were sent out west twice, whereas Duke has not been. We have more fans and alums who were willing to travel to Florida for this than Duke, and I’d bet they have many alums in Cali who would like to see them play.

We have a better resume than Duke, beating 3 ranked teams. We deserved the opportunity to play an Alabama, an Ole Miss, a Colorado, a Michigan even. Not a mediocre Wazzu team who lost to New Mexico. So yes, I am disappointed. Instead of a packed house to see McCord and the gang one last time in Florida with a chance to prove ourselves and get serious program recognition/momentum, we likely see our backups with fewer fans and I wouldn’t be surprised if Wazzu wins due to the “motivation factor”

Any bowl in Florida thinking Duke will have more fans attend than Syracuse this season is not very smart

"Williams takes the snap. Hand off to Allen. THERE HE GOES! HE HITS THE HOLE! FIGHTING FOR EXTRA YARDS!! THEY CAN'T BRING HIM DOWN!!!! FINALLY TACKLED FOR A TWO... YARD... GAAAAIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN!!"
This is gold.

No arguments here but if its going to happen to us, at least its San Diego.

I think I can speak for most people when I say location isn’t the complaint, its just hard justifying paying a couple grand to see our backup vs wsu
Location is a major issue for the fans. Much easier to get to Florida January 2 than San Diego 2 days after Christmas

You think we would have played Ole Miss close?

I don't and think we got saved from getting blown out. With Tennessee looming and the beating we took vs USF last year its for the best.

We might be able to run it up on WSU's backups with our backups or Kyle. I just want the 10th win. Let some of the young skill position guys get some touches noones red shirt is effected.

Both West Coast games were well attended by our fans. We play in Florida next year.

It’s going to be a very fun trip for the people who matter: the players, coaching staff, and support staff.

Bowls are nothing more than glorified exhibitions largely featuring underclassmen. I highly doubt any of our departing players were going to suit up regardless of bowl or opponent. None of them need tape, and it’d be devastating if any of them got hurt.

All the wailing and gnashing of teeth is silly.
If we had a big time opponent I bet they would. But they went out winners vs Miami at home
