2024 New York Mets Thread

What a game! It was a microcosm of the Meta season. Look like poo early, come to life and move in front, choke the lead away and then take it at the end. Let’s Go Mets!
Yup. Some horrible moments and some fantastic ones.

Hopefully Mendoza learns a lesson in bullpen management here and never does this again.

Who starts the second game? Probably the guy we can activate for the doubleheader? Haven't heard who that is. Guessing Fujinami, who was really good for Syracuse late in the season. Maybe Kranick, who was not bad for Syracuse.

I realize we are in and game 2 of the DH doesn't matter all that much but I would REALLY like to win and knock the Braves out of the playoffs.

Your concerns were certainly justified. I was surprised he pulled Maton when he did, after a bloop hit. I was more surprised when Diaz went back out for the 9th. But somehow, it worked out in the end. It reminded me of the Alabama-Georgia football game: one-sided and boring most of the way, then a miracle comeback, then a miracle comeback by the team who had led. But the Mets had a second comeback in them. Lindor is a hero for the ages.

My perspective on this season is that 2024 was supposed to be a throw-away season as the Mets were gearing up for 2025 or 2026. It looked like the team was going through the motions early. But they came on strong and made something of the season. Maybe it will end in a few days anyway, as it did in 2022. Maybe this will be the Miracle Mets and we'll somehow win it all. Whatever happens, when you make the playoffs, all the struggles of the regular season have been justified.

if they were to win this game anyone in Vegas is a short hop over to the playoffs.. just saying

A lot of Syracuse Mets in that locker room. I saw 'em play here !

My understanding is the series with the Brewers is a 3 game deal. All in Milwaukee. No days off.

If I have it right, the Mets will start Severino, Manaea and Quintana.

Diaz and Maton will surely not be available to pitch tomorrow. Mason has pitched 3 or 4 days in a row now. Everyone else in the bullpen should be good to go.

Wondering what is going on with Jose Butto? He is barely pitching this month. I assume he has a bad arm and that is severely limiting his innings.

Really need Sevy to pitch 7 innings tomorrow. And then sweat out the last 2. Maybe Butto and Stanek? Garrett Reed, Adam Ottavino and Danny Young terrify me every time they take the mound these days.

"The deference Rob Manfred typically shows owners is one reason he will end up serving 14 years as commissioner. But in this case, he should have dropped the hammer in the best interests of his sport. He seemingly had two solutions available: The shifting of last week’s New York Mets–Atlanta Braves series to a neutral site. Or the rescheduling of the series in Atlanta to include a single game last Monday and doubleheader Tuesday."

This situation gives him leverage when needed in the future, as he showed deference to the Braves and ended up with multiple angry owners, got personally crushed in the media, and made MLB look like a clown show. As great as the first game today was, the second game was a farce - which everyone knew it would be. (And the Padres game yesterday was a farce as well…)

I’m just barely willing to give Manfred a pass on completely botching this one - but he’s gotta use the leverage he got from how badly this played out if he ends up in a situation where overruling an owner is the right thing for the league. If he doesn’t - it means he doesn’t have the strength and courage needed in the position.

the Mets don't get a home game? Sheet...

Tyrone Taylor single yesterday. Crazy spin on this ball.

And it looks like the cover on the ball has somehow ripped.

It's easier to listen to the Fran Brown show when the Mets are ahead by 4 runs.

I hope we can stay on a roll. We can't afford one of those streaks where we score 1 run in 15 innings.

These are the playoffs. You cannot leave a pitcher in the game that is clearly struggling and gave up the lead. Still not sold on Mendoza.

It was what I was afraid of. The Mets scored 11 runs in the first 11 innings of the series, then put up 7 goose eggs in a row and lost.

Look at the AL scores from yesterday - 5-2; 2-1. In the playoffs, a lot of times 3 runs are going to HAVE TO win you the game. Mets had the lead and the bullpen blew it late - that's the key takeaway from this game. The Brewers bullpen is substantially better than the Mets - which means the Mets have to score a lot of runs to be confident they can win.

I'm more worried that I have no confidence in the bullpen at any time, with any lead, ever - than I am about the Mets offense. I mean - just this week we blew a 6-3 lead in the 8th inning and it required a Lindor HR to bail out the pen from that collapse - if the Mets lose tonight it will almost certainly be due to the bullpen and not weak offense.

When Pete Alonso is up, I always say "Come awn Pete!" So many times this year he hasn't but all is forgiven. Peter is a keeper.

When the Mets need a double play, I shout "Hit it to Lindor Hit it to Lindor!". And on this occasion, they hit to Lindor.

We ended an agonizing stretch of 17 consecutive scoreless innings after we'd opened the series scoring 11 runs in 11 innings to beat the team that pushed us into that 0-5 start to the season.

What a week!
