As Jackie Gleason would say “How sweet it is!” Let’s nail the coffin shut now.
Who goes tomorrow? How wild is it we sit here now after the way things looked early on this season..
Who goes tomorrow?
oye... too bad they can't get Senga to go. I suspect they get Quintana through the order twice and turn it into a bullpen game. I bet Peterson takes the ball from Quintana if the win is in play.Quintana is showing as the starter on the MLB app.
The Phillies have the fanatic and the Mets have Grimace. Ugh.

Hopefully he pitches like he did Thursday vs the Brewers.
Quintana has been terrific down the stretch and it seems like the Phillies are struggling more against lefties than righties right now, so hopefully the veteran comes up big tonight.Outside a less than great but still strong outing on sept 29 José has had great stuff for almost the last two months. Happy he’s got the ball tonight.
I’m greedily hoping our bats go nuts tonight and take some heat off the pitching staff too. Let’s slam the door shut and maybe get a chance at some post season revenge vs the Padres.

If the Mets lose tonight, there is an off day and then The Phillies will start Wheeler, who is by far their best starter. And we are scheduled to start Senga. Senga is terrific but with all the down time he has had, this is not the matchup you want in a win or go home scenario.
The game today is a home game. A game on Friday would be on the road.
I think the Mets really need to win this game. It will be a much tougher job to beat Wheeler than Ranger Suárez. Suárez has an ERA over 5.00 for his last 15 starts and it is 5.74 in his last 5. And he is a lefty. Pretty sure the Mets have been doing well against lefties down the stretch.

An hour after the “Let’s Go Mets” chants stopped ringing through the stadium concrete, Brandon Nimmo absorbed what this day — the day the New York Mets had planned for when it was never promised — had been like. “This,” the team’s longest-tenured player said, “is what Mets fans have been waiting for.”
“We had plans of this,” said Jesse Winker. “Being on the road was part of our journey. Now we’re back here and we’re loving it.”
Nimmo has been the successor to Wright in my opinion. Has his ups and downs but he is a Met through and through.I used to listen to a now-long defunct Mets podcast back in 2013 -2016(ish). For part of the podcast they’d cover prospects down on the farm - I remember lots of discouragement about Nimmo and questions if a guy from Wyoming had seen the level of competition he was dealing with, because that year (2013) was a struggle.
Once Conforto was drafted, he became the guy to watch - lots of projections of success for him, with an upside of numerous All-Star game appearances. The hopes for Nimmo were mostly that he someday make the roster…but it might only be as a bench player. The trajectory of those two guy’s careers has been interesting to watch - Conforto’s injury seems to have completely derailed his career, while Nimmo has significantly outperformed the early projections. Considering how Conforto’s career worked out, the Mets would be in a world of hurt if Nimmo didn’t keep steadily improving to be the player he is today. He’s easily my favorite player on this team.
I knew this wasn't going to wind up 0-1. It probably won't wind up 4-1, either.
Clemens bailed out Diaz big time by swinging at that 2-0 pitch that was a ball.
Nice 3 run cushion let’s add to it though. Diaz should be ready to go too
I think he throws too hard to get the marginal pitches… I suspect umps aren’t tracking his pitches through the zone, they only see where it ends up and call it based on that. I also think Diaz gets too amped and over throws, when he is in the zone he is relaxed and the stuff looks easy. I haven’t seen that this year… he’s trying too hard.Diaz has great stuff, but he consistently gets in bad spots because no umps want to give him the marginal pitches.
I’m guessing a part of it is the emotional release and his grandmother passing this week. But yeah… he really really cares.
He said as much after the game that he was trying to paint corners, and his pitches were tailing off. Pitching coach and teammates told him during mound visit to trust his movement and not try to paint corners. Just throw the fastball and let it dance.I think he throws too hard to get the marginal pitches… I suspect umps aren’t tracking his pitches through the zone, they only see where it ends up and call it based on that.
