Syracuse football training camp was open to the media on Monday. Here are our observations from that portion of practice.
-The defensive line was working on line schemes, specifically stressing calling out the plays as a unit for continuity.
-The offensive line looked a bit leaner from last season, a credit to the strength and conditioning program.
-A significant portion of the open practice session was dedicated to stretching.
-The defensive line also worked on getting off the line quickly. The quickest with the most explosion seemed to be Luke Arciniega, John Raymon and Anthony Giudice.
-Tight end Tyler Provo was riding the stationary bike during practice.
-Syracuse has a new addition to the roster in running back Jacob Hill. He is believed to be a walk-on.
-Significant work on punt returns during the open session. As expected, Brisly Estime took several reps as did Steve Ishmael. Ervin Philips was also in the mix, as were true freshmen Dontae Strickland and Jordan Fredericks. There are several options that could give Syracuse a weapon in the return game. An interesting battle to watch.
-Work observed from the quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and wide receivers included quick, short throws. Pass catchers showed good hands in the session observed.
