An option if used in limited situations. The main problem is you always guarantee an ACC team an extra loss in this situation.

I could see Cuse using this to play Miami, GTech, UNC or UVA...but hopefully in a rare case to fill a scheduling hole.

Hate this idea, beat up on each other without it counting towards the conference record and championship race. Just scrap the divisions and do the 3 permanent rivals and rotate 5 games each year. Its really the only way.

Another option would simply be to count such games. Schools that want to dodge a 9th conference game so that they can play an SEC patsy would simply have one less shot at a conference victory.

Moronic...actually sub moronic. As texas mark said you go 1-1 and defeats (pun intended) the purpose of competing for a title or ranking. Either go 9 games for all or forget playing other ACC schools as an extra OOC game. I will lose a lot of respect for the ACC if they go 8 games AND stay in divisions. As for teams that do play ACC OOC like baseball, they are teams that have an actual playoff, not a beauty contest like college football has. Plus, it could knock out an ACC team from the bowl picture. How do you prove your better than other P5's by playing with your own conference?

SU and FSU each go 5-1 in division; SU beats FSU but loses to Clemson while FSU beats Clemson (assume Clemson has a couple other losses and is out of the title picture)
Each team plays and beats similar teams in cross-division game (e,g., GT and NC) and are now 6-1 in conference
Each loses to Pitt, but SU played them as annual rival while FSU played them "OOC" - SU's ACC record is now 6-2, FSU is still 6-1
Each beats Miami, but SU played them "OOC" while FSU played them as annual rival - SU is still 6-2, FSU is now 7-1. These are their final ACC records in the standings.

So, despite each going 7-2 against basically the same conference schedule and SU winning head to head, FSU will go to the championship game

The simple cure for all that is to make divisional record the primary determinant of the divisional champion, head-to-head second, conference record third.

As an added bonus of that line of thinking, ND could participate as an ACC CG contender while only playing a six or seven game schedule. ND would always lose the second tiebreaker that way, but I figure that would be their problem.
