ACC, PAC-12, and BIG alliance / conference realignment

Yeah that’s kind of nutty. SEC schools now are chock full of honor roll kids from the northeast and mid Atlantic now.

The schools rankings are below the ACC, B18, and old PAC. Texas coming in will help somewhat but the SEC pretty much has A&M, Florida, UGA as good schools outside of Vandy. The rest aren't bad (they aren't WV after all), but they are not good.

There’s no chemistry professor at Vanderbilt that’s going to convince their President and BOT to leave the SEC because being in the same conference as Mississippi State offends him.

Come on now.

Legally I don't know how any conference can cut a school, absent very specific criteria being enacted.

The Big East enacted an attendance criteria, and that was why Temple got the heave-ho.

I guess the B1G could try to enact something specifically targeted at Rutgers or Maryland, but I don't see how that could work.

Absent that, any school "cut" would immediately file a multi-billion dollar lawsuit.

Seems to me the only way to "cut the dead weight" is for a brand new league to form that only invites certain schools. And that would require cooperation between the SEC and B1G that doesn't seem possible.
Rutgers has been giving away tickets to present better attendance. All tickets sold or given away then counted as attended. That’s how Rutgers manufactured sellout crowds. Photos contrary to their claims can be very deceiving, or truthful, depending on which side of the argument you are on.

D1/FBS has attendance requirements. Temple was ousted because they generated no attendance.

Apply to most of them and good luck getting in. Most ACC schools are becoming next to impossible to get into.

The first goal should be to lose them as rarely as possible, the second goal should be to never lose them to parallel moves. The third goal is to replace them with the best replacement possible.

Sure, if you live in a Pollyanna type world. You will lose people, even SEC and B10 schools lose coaches. So SU is going to retain all theirs... ummmm... probably not.

Losing Anae isn't a loss, even if it was a parallel move. Solid coach but Beck is a coach players want to play for and when you factor in the recruiting aspect, we upgraded the position. In this portal world, you need coaches players don't want to leave.

We want to replace coaches with the best possible replacement? Yup. Nothing ground breaking there, probably didn't need to write point #3.

Can confirm. I know teachers who can get free tickets.

They'd rather go apple picking.

Without being closely involved with the program it's hard to say, but for starters, we could have spent what it took to keep our coordinators. Holding onto White over Nebraska would have been tough, but losing Anae to a conference rival is proof we're not paying enough.

Then whatever level we can aspire to in terms of spending, we should have facilities on par with programs spending to that level.
I don't think they were sad to see Anae go.

Not a good look, IMO.
At some point the conference needs to isht, or get off the pot. Once again, reactive as opposed to proactive.
it sounds like tomorrow. They also don't really announce that there going to vote so it could be happening right now as the Commish didn't go to Dallas for CFB meeting

According to the Athletics website Syracuse maintains only 7 Mens teams and 12 Womens. Notably no Baseball, Swimming, Wrestling on the Men's side. UNC maintains 12 Mens teams and 14 Womens...these differences will add up fast in creating the disparity
IIRC, men's swimming and wrestling were sacrificed on the altar of Title IX.

On ACC PM yesterday, a guest said they believe some political pressure would be applied to the North Carolina schools. The said it was a bad “look” for the North Carolina schools to vote no, after the state helped retain the home office of the ACC in the state.

I get it: Apple picking or Rutgers game? Unless you like the opposing team, this is not a choice, it's a given!

I hope for your sake they have never offered you tickets. If they do, you can probably sue for intentional infliction of mental distress. ;)

I get your point, I want a resolution one way or the other; however, in this instance, giving UNC space is the right call. UNC needs to focus on the students, faculty, and support staff. Demanding they focus expansion - or anything else - at this time is a bit cold. The university presidents and chancellors are giving UNC a few days to mourn. Just an opinion for another fan.

Ole Miss is a huge rivalry game.

You are probably right, but it is hard to ignore how bad they have been in football. And how much their academic side must hate being with many of the SEC schools.

Since 1959 they have had four non losing SEC seasons. In those season they went 4-2, 4-4, 5-3, 4-4. So only 2 winning SEC seasons. Mizzou has had more SEC success and they have only been in the SEC since 2012.
I am a Tennessean with family ties to Vanderbilt. Vandy people love being in the SECD. Most would prefer that the SEC have another private school or two, and perhaps a coupe smaller state universities that are Elite - like GT and UVA. But they love being in the SEC.

I’m pretty sure this is because of UNC campus shooting. Some things are bigger than sports

I stand corrected.

Looks like next year Pac 12 After Dark is being replaced with Big 10 After Dark. Gotta give it to the Big 10, they have worked the past decade-plus to perfection of stockpiling schools, getting the best TV contract, and becoming the force in College Sports

The ACCN is not making $50-100M from adding Stanford, Cal and SMU. Nowhere close. Sorry.
I defer to your expertise on this. A podcast I posted in the Daily Articles yesterday made that estimate. This at least helps explain why the four schools are not changing their votes.

Let me get this straight.... The ACC is being prevented from trying to survive in this moron lead, who cares what the fan wants, college football world by the 3 or 4 teams who are on the edge of their seat to leave the conference. Do I have that right? I'm really trying hard to create a passion within myself for raking leaves.

Gotcha.

I imagine those podcasters are assuming that every market in CA and TX are going to pay the in-market rate for the ACCN.

That’s simply not gonna happen. Does anyone think Comcast or Charter in LA is going to fork over a 10X increase in rate because Stanford and Cal are in the ACC?

Personally, I wouldn't characterize it as a who cares what the fan wants college football world. The fans of the haves dwarf the fans of the have nots. And I'm sure the fans of the haves are ok with it all. I don't think the casual fans care either, they'll still get the content on TV.

But I would call it a who cares what's best for the olympic student athlete college football world. The amount of travel that will be expected of them is obscene.

When the dust settles there may be a lot more fans of the " have nots" than you might think. And please don't tell me the fans entered anybody's mind when the PAC NOTHING teams decided to abandon their conference.
