ACC, PAC-12, and BIG alliance / conference realignment

Previously the metric was cable boxes, the new metric is like streaming subscriptions or something like that. It doesn't matter if it goes thru cable lines or internet or antennas, it's all content and it is all worth money and cost money to view.
Yeah, that’s what’s unequal. It’s all worth money but the region doesn’t matter as much. Streaming is national. So thinking regionally is less applicable.

IMO it would be nice for there to be 5 conferences of 18 teams consisting of 3 divisions. Then they break away from the leftovers. Having 90 teams in the top flight is plenty and it forces better OOC matchups since there are fewer cupcakes. Having 3 divisions also keeps more fans interested. There are fewer teams to hurdle to win a division.

So something like the below. The only FBS state that gets left out is Hawaii so there shouldn't be political pushback. Playoffs are the 5 conference champs plus 2 at larges. That way the season has meaning and everyone has a shot. Keep the Bowls as they are like the NIT anyway at this point.

B1G
East- Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana
North- Michigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois
West- Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Colorado, Kansas, Rice
This would help build Nebraska back up. Between the easier division and playing games in Texas again for recruiting. Their brand is needed. It would also help build Michigan back up as it is easier to win the division without Ohio and Penn State. B1G adds a Texas school and 4 AAU schools.

SEC
East- Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt
South- Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State
West- Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Kansas State
We get the original SEC East and West. Then 6 of the old B12.

ACC
North- Notre Dame, Miami, Cincinatti, Pitt, Syracuse, BC
South- Clemson, FSU, Georgia Tech, UNC, UVA, Duke
Central- Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Louisville, UCF, NC State, Wake Forrest
Everyone gets to play a Florida school so they can be happy.

P12
North- Oregon, Washington, Boise State, Washington State, Oregon State, UNLV
West- USC, UCLA, San Diego State, Stanford, Cal, Fresno State
South- Utah, Houston, Texas Tech, Arizona State, Arizona, New Mexico
With a division of California teams the other divisions are guaranteed a game in the state every year.

B12
East- Army, Navy, East Carolina, USF, Temple, UConn
South- Baylor, TCU, SMU, Memphis, Tulsa, Tulane
West- BYU, Colorado State, Air Force, Nevada, San Jose State, Wyoming
UConn isn't worthy but do you leave the state of Connecticut out? Same thing with Wyoming. These 18 schools you can argue should be left behind but it is nice to have some cupcakes. Just not 60 of them like we do now.

Ours isn't padded with Albany, Liberty, Ohio etc?

It was probably meant as a cookie when originally scheduled but that was actually a real strong win for us this season.

Actually 4 x 20 with 5 divisions of 4 might be better. The more divisions you have the more wide spread interest. The SEC has so many quality teams that it pushes some brands down a notch. That doesn't happen if you have more divisions.

B1G
North- Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois
South- GA Tech, UNC, UVA, Duke
East- Ohio State, Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers
West- Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas
Central- Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana
For years, Wisconsin has been propped up by the B12 West. This would prop up GA Tech, Nebraska, and Michigan all brands that have been down after expansion.

SEC
North- Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt
South- Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State
East- Georgia, Florida, NC State, South Carolina
West- Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma State
Central- LSU, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas State
This would prop up Tennessee.

ACC
North- Notre Dame, BC, Army, Navy
South- FSU, Miami, UCF, USF
East- Pitt, Syracuse, Temple, UConn
West- Cincinnati, West Virginia, Louisville, Memphis
Central- Clemson, Wake Forest, East Carolina, James Madison
This would prop up Northeast football.

P12
North- Oregon, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State
South- Arizona State, Arizona, San Diego State, UNLV
East- Houston, Texas Tech, UT San Antonio, New Mexico
West- USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal
Central- Utah, Boise State, Fresno State, Air Force
You are propping up ASU and your entry into Texas making the entry worth more.

The states of Wyoming and Hawaii get left out.

For SU we would play Pitt, Temple, UConn, BC, FSU, Cincinnati, Wake Forest every year. The other teams we would play once every three years. So home and away over 6 years. BBall would stink. We would be trading Duke, UNC, UVA, GA Tech, NC State, VA Tech for UConn, WV, Cincy, Memphis, Temple, ECU, UCF, USF, JMU.

You lost me when you included UConn. They are no longer worthy of FBS football. Put a stake in their heart and never play them again.

So if the all the other P5 conferences go to 9 games, won't the ACC have to follow?

Is that happening?
B1G, B12, P12 are all at 9. SEC supposedly wants to go to 9 after Texas and Oklahoma come in. The only way I see the B1G/P12 going to 8 is if they have a scheduling agreement along with the ACC. Everyone will need to play 10 P5 games one way or another. Makes the most sense to go 9+1.

9+1 has always been a goal of mine.

then get rid of the d1aa and play 2 G5 teams or 1 and a P5 cupcake...

like Syracuse with shrader at QB...

The NCAA ought to get out of the way and let each league decide their own method for determining a champion--like, for example, 3-5-5.
It's not NCAA HQ that's standing in the way, though. You could always determine a champion however you wanted, but you needed to follow the NCAA's rule to have a championship game. The original rule was brought in for D-2 and was for 12 or more teams in two divisions. They never thought a D-1 conference would ever get that big but the SEC surprised them. When the Big XII went down to 10 teams, the rule was modified by the P5 (who can make their own rules) to allow them to have a championship game if they played every team in the conference.

The P5 could vote to get rid of the requirement to have divisions at just about any time that they choose to hold the vote. Going to 3-5-5 is the smartest thing any conference with 12 members can do. You have a home-and-home with every team in your conference every 4 years. Penn State is the biggest winner in one scenario I envisioned for the B1G, playing Michigan State, Maryland, and Rutgers as their permanent 3, and only having to play one of Ohio State or Michigan in a particular year.

So they should get out of the way by rescinding their rule re: divisions required for a championship game.

Really good read if you have twitter
Yup.

Hoping all divisions go away.

Hoping all conferences go to 8 game conference schedules. Except the SEC. They can play themselves 12 times a season for all I care.

Let conferences decide how they want to determine conference champs and how they want to schedule their conference games.

Need to get the Alliance schools to 8 game conference schedules ASAP so more alliance games can be scheduled (every conference member should play at least one alliance game a season).
