ACC tournament projection v. 2.0

If Louisville beats Virginia i want the 7.

We would get potentially NC State, Virginia Tech, Louisville, FSU-UVA path.

UVA can’t fall below the 2 seed now that VT has no more regular season games. UVA will be 2 with loss to Louisville or FSU win over Notre Dame. UVA will be 1 with win over Louisville plus FSU loss at Notre Dame.

Does it matter Duke or NC St? Does either win singularly get us a bid? I don't think so.

Therefore, what will get us a bid is the 2nd ACC Tourney win -- FSU or Va(?).

Ergo, the easiest path to the 2nd game is what we want...which means we're looking at you Wolfpack.

Which is why it is pretty simple they should have the highest ranked team that would settle the tiebreaker that each team played.
It’s not hard and it is fair.

The schedule was so random I'm really not sure anything is "fair" in this context.

I dunno, i do get your point, but also, it does seem kinda unfair to UNC for them to beat the first place team and lose the tiebreaker due to the 4th place team or whatever

that initial win *could* be enough, depending on alot of things - ergo, wanting the "most impressive" possible first-day win - ergo, wanting dook...

but I tend to agree more with your summary as to what works best for us to possibly get into the tourney

Right, does (Duke + FSU) significantly improve your odds relative to (State +FSU)? I assume not, so you go with state

but dook alone *could* do it...

Was it a “true” number 1 team though.
Florida State avoided a road games at Syracuse, at Pittsburgh, at Virginia Tech, Duke.

So they may not even be better than Virginia.

nah - dook will still be (in their collective mind) scratching and clawing for an at-large, moreso than nc st IMO
I get the feeling that sat will be a last stand kind of game for Duke, they will play their butts off, if they beat Unc they go to the acct feeling like they can win it, if not I get the feeling they will have one foot in the offseason.

SI is wrong...

There is an outside chance Syracuse could move up to the seven seed. Clemson plays Pittsburgh on Saturday and North Carolina plays Duke. If both lose, then Syracuse, Clemson and North Carolina would all be 9-7 in conference. In that scenario, a three team conference is created where their records against each other determines seeding.

And its crap like this that tournament people should be looking at. We had a chance for a quality win at home, and based on how we played at home probably could have won. Then you have teams like Louisville, who are "in" but haven't played nearly as many games as everyone else. But yet, we are on the outside. Why this stuff isn't considered like losing a player or coach is baffling.

Totally fair point

I don't know what you can really do about it though. Like you can't give us credit for beating FSU.

Really, the selection committee has a tough enough job in a normal year (though I think they have a ton of blind spots, not really defending them) but this year it's just impossible.

Why the league anointed them the champs last year, just because. :)

They earned the trophy last year.
Since their was no tournament Florida State won the regular season so it was fair to give them the trophy. Record books can say it was for the regular season but I would rather have a champion in the records than it say idle.

Just like Virginia is still the NCAA defending champions.

yeah no, I get it. Was just trying to make light of what we lost in terms of quality home games, coupled with our record deserves to be considered like an injured player or lost coach.

Im all for killing the selection committee, but this year there really can't be any complaints, they have their hardest job ever this year.

Very tough job. But let's hold our congratulations until they announce the bracket. They might decide the "bubble" field based on reputation, the better to attract eyeballs and puff up the bottom line.

I mean if they take Duke at like 13-12 I will kill them, but unless they do something absurd like that I think they get a pass.

I want Duke. No one thought Syracuse could beat NC last year and we did.

After we beat Duke if we lose to FL St. and don't make the NCAAs at least I'll be happy knowing Syracuse knocked Duke out of the NCAAs.

I have a feeling this year I'll be watching the NCAAs just to cheer against the many teams I hate.

I want to play Duke. They aren’t very good, but their metrics are. They just happened to have their best game of the year against us.

Their 7 footer scares me too much to root for playing them. Marek has no business guarding him. Maybe a rejuvenated Jesse can hold his own, but I'm not betting on it. And they aren't even a Q1 win, so the reward isn't worth the risk, IMO. Not to mention how much of a matchup nightmare Hurt is.

Right now they are taking 13-11 Xavier over us. Xavier is 0-6 against AP top 25 teams. There is no good win on their resume.
