An Open letter to Mark Coyle

Well done sir.

Jek, I saw Hoosiers. I witnessed Jimmy Chitwood. Jimmy Chitwood had the sweetest "J." Jek, you're no Jimmy Chitwood.

But in all seriousness, nice job putting that out there. Strong conviction.

I'm no Jimmy Chitwood, but that's okay. Merle was always my favorite (which is why it always makes me so sad to remember that the actor who played Merle killed himself in 2003).

By the way: the Chitwood stuff? It's a fact right now, as much as people don't want to believe it. I had one player DM me on Twitter telling me he would absolutely leave if Shafer is fired. I don't think people realize how much these kids love Shafer, and came here for him.

If people knew some of the names who would leave...they'd be terrified for the future of Syracuse football. Obviously I won't say who. But believe me, these are impactful players on this roster.

I know for a fact many players will not stay if Shafer is let go. He is the reason these kids are here.

We can throw the whole #CuseFam thing out the window if they get rid of Shafer. No more pool parties.

Exactly. And we're not talking about easily replaceable kids.

I think an open letter to Scott Shafer would have been more appropriate, one in which you encourage him to approach game day with some imagination and intelligence, hire an O-line coach with some experience, recruit defensive backs with some affinity for receivers and footballs, and completely rethink the training and nutritional program currently in place...Shafer is creating his own destiny here. If the AD feels like he needs to make a change at some point there will only be one person to blame.

I appreciate the writing. Don't agree with alot of it. But well thought out and well written.

Appreciate that, and believe me, I'm not asking everyone to agree with me. I'm just putting my own personal views out there.

Where are they going to go?

Go to another school and sit out a year? (if other FBS programs even want them). Drop to FCS?

I think when kids are presented their options, they understand that staying is in their best interest. You're committing to the school.

theyre just showing support for their coach.

as soon as they realize that leaving will be bad for THEM, they change their minds, come to their senses or finally 'get it'.

hell, ped st gave everyone a free pass to go...and like 3 kids did.

Until a new coach comes in, does their job, ignites and unites the team, etc and it's back to work. There will be a few casualties, but there always is.

What if one of the casualties is Dungey? I mean honestly I'm not sure I'd trade Dungey for any coach on lists I've seen of possible replacements.

These guys are too hard to come by.

Guys like Ishmael committed to George McDonald. He's no longer here, but Ishmael is.

Dungey isn't leaving if Shafer is fired. I'll call some serious B.S. on that and really know that people are exaggerating what they say they know.

Exactly.

Based on that logic, we should never have let GRob go. He was a very good recruiter and the players loved him.
ACTUALLY...many of the players didn't respect him at all.

If a conservative run first coach comes in then he probably bails. If an Art Briles type coach comes in then he probably stays. It's all going to come down to fit and system for these kids.

Shafer's not going anywhere though.

Stuff like this wont matter when Coyle decides to make a change this year, next year or if ever. It just won't.

What of he comes in with Scott Frost? Dungey will think twice I am sure
