Are there any Pro-Shafer's left?

Crazy talk
You really don't get it. Our record the last 11 years is 48-85. None of our last 3 coaches had 1 game of HC expereince before taking this job.

Unless Scott Frost is bringing a Heisman QB or pretty damn good QB in Adams let him prove it in a G6 league.

Boise State candidates should not be our candidates. Boise recruits Jucos/California/Northwest/Texas.

Syracuse recruits NY/NJ/CT/MA/PA/MD/FL.

Frost is a shinny new toy. Crazy talk would be hiring the shinny new toy over a better fit.

Wait we don't have a good qb here?
Dungey is not Adams. Dungey was a nice player but let's hold off the horses when the kid isn't healthy right now.

Well when Frost makes a stupid decision you better not hammer him. The guy doesn't deserve a P5 job as his first HC job. Coaching a Heisman winner and a pretty damn good QB in Adams is not going to happen at Syracuse. Tempo works when you have that talent. The guy isn't worth the risk. I don't want on the job training after the SS Era.

We are in a unique position. I keep hearing we're afraid of being a stepping stone job ala Houston and Memphis - but we are not those schools. You win here and start competing for ACC championships? You might stick around - easier to win the ACC than the SEC.

So you interview current HC and really bright P5 OC/DC. And you weigh all the factors.

If Frost interviews well, shows a real understanding of HC/CEO type skill?

Also - We're getting HC from a Mac school, a P5 retread, an NFL assistant, or a young up and coming coordinator. We are not getting Herman or Fuentes.

Risk is inherent from our position in the pecking order - but if we get it right - it could be long range good.

I loved him as a DC, wanted him to be Foster to Marrone's Beamer. Hated the screaming at Dabo stuff and the loopy pressers, bad clock management and decision making.

People are talking about a guy like Babers like he is an up and comer. Dude is 54.

I met Mark Coyle once in the summer. Made a comment to him about fixing the football program. He said that if he does that he'll get to stick around a while. I trust that.

I will say, Frost's resume leaves me cold. If he were to be the guy Coyle wanted to hire, then that's his choice. But it wouldn't be mine.

The other thing they all had in common outside of Marrone? Defensive coordinators.

If Frost goes G6 league as a HC we're not snagging him. He'd be Fuentes/Herman.

I don't think anyone advocating for Shafer to be fired is taking pleasure in his demise.
There have been good perspectives offered on why replacing Shafer is the reasonable and right thing to do. However, the "fire Shafer" mantra goes "viral" and overwhelms other considerations, becoming a display of angry frustration. I've been advocating for trusting Coyle & Syverud in their analysis and timeframe. It sounds like they're ready to move and have communicated that to him. Coach Shafer has been struggling to maintain his composure and he needs our support now more than ever. He's been here long time in various capacities and wanted things to go much better, for SU and his own aspirations. It's not time to pile on, rather it's time to help him up.

Fine with me. I know we aren't getting Fuente/Herman as I wouldn't hire them anyway. Frost is not a good fit. He is a shinny toy people like because they see Oregon OC.

Mariota was special, Adams is Diet Mariota good but not with all the calories. Frost isn't bringing that to SU.

This is the first post I have made on this subject, as I wanted to see how the season played out. I really, really wanted Shafer to succeed, and hoped we'd at least see some tangible signs that progress was being made this season. I'm tired of losing every week, and I'm tied of excuses (injuries, youth, etc.). Being a head coach is a high risk/high reward profession, and it's painfully clear that it's time to replace Shafer. I hope SU is willing to pay enough to get a decent coach, and a competent staff.

Cincy was a stepping-stone school with Dantonio, Kelly, Jones. I'll take that. But that was when Cincy was in the much-maligned Big East. As you point out SU is in a P5 conference, and the likelihood is stronger that the coach would stay.

Oregon has been good longer than those two QB's. Mariota was a 3* guy who was developed.

Also shiny new toy = proven offensive system. I'm okay with taking that chance over some former P5 retread.

Well I mean, who doesn't?

But no...obviously things can change. But there's a clear frontrunner, and it's not Babers.

I don't really buy this. I think Coyle knows where he lives now and is going to do a pretty thorough search (I'm sure he's already in the middle of this). There will be multiple interviews, and someone will be the right fit based on everything they hear. I very much doubt he's just bringing his previous Boise list with him as people are suggesting.

Mariota was a 4star recruit. He committed to Oregon and that caused 4 star Oregon QB commit Johnny Manziel to flip to Texas A&M.
Mariota wasn't a 3 star.

Scott Frost is to much of a gamble. A person like him could be the hire when we have done well and the coach moves to a better job.

I think llandz was the first person or maybe the second but rumors are flying that Coyle will announce Shafer wont be back tomorrow just heard it myself.

You're incorrect. 3* by all major recruiting services, 2* by ESPN.

I don't really know how to vet this stuff, or any official ruling, but according to R!vals, Mariota was a 3 star and his only other offer was Memphis. Looks like 24_7 says the same thing. Good luck searching Sc0ut. That site has gone sucktacular.

If he's a gamble, he's a gamble in the right direction (offense), and a gamble I feel other programs would make.

I can more than live with Frost being our new HC if that's how it shakes out. We'd immediately have an offensive identity and pedigree from a successful college program. Two things we don't see a lot of around here.

The last time was? I mean - do you go back pre-Mac?
