Ash is out?

Post-Thanksgiving Gratitude
I'm thankful that there was no opportunity for someone in the media (i.e. the Post Standard) to use that terrible 'Ash Wednesday' headline.

Bowling Green just picked up a S%$# Load of fans for Friday Night's MAC Championship ESPN2 7PM

I watched BG play at Tennessee earlier this year. BG had at least 4 or 5 passes that went 45-50 yards in the air. They are fun to watch.

Edit: just looked it up. The BG quarterback threw for 424 yards in this game

I wouldn't accuse Coyle of looking stupid. It's people believing every single internet rumor. All Coyle has done is the proper due diligence to get the best hire possible.
Bees, you know reason, logic and common sense have no place on a sports fan board. You will have to take your good sense elsewhere while we are in an emotional and irrational state of mind and trying to resolve all of the world's problems with our HC hire. Besides, acting rational and as a voice of reason when you have over a thousand CFB HC experts is, well, just not sensible. You may have to report yourself or, possibly ban yourself, if you keep up with the even keeled, good sense, steady as she goes approach. (sarcasm font off)

MAC recruits against an SEC defense? That should be impossible!

I feel like such an idiot for my reaction the last couple days. This would be a homerun in every possible way.

To be fair, the AD controversially fired a coach, and then interviewed at least 1 if not 2 coaches that pretty much every Syracuse fan would have a major problem with. Then Coyle did nothing while stories were leaked. For all we know, the stories were leaked on purpose to gauge the fan response. Also, keep in mind that he hasn't actually hired anyone yet. Who know who we will get at the end of the day? It's not like the front runner hasn't changed at least 2 times already.

Aside from either interview GRob for the job or hire someone without any interviews, I'm not sure how he could have looked dumber. But even if you don't want to go that far, I think that it's hard to say that he looked smart.

Outside of firing Shafer, nothing in your post is anymore than internet rumor.

Wha?

This is legit amazing.

"Ok, ok, I like it, I like it, I see you, I see you!"

Definitely a players' coach.

Why hire a dad like figure when you can just hire a grandpa like figure

When I hire people, I don't discuss interviews with everyone, in fact I limit the discussions to those with relevant input. I don't care what people think and I can assure, even in small companies the rumors abound and are rarely close to the truth. Most rumors simply get ignored.

Coyle, who is hiring a much higher profile person than I hire, I can only assume he is playing with his cards close to his vest. Why deal with baseless rumors? There is no point, people will only speculate more. Once the deal is done, what can be made public will be made public. People will still speculate. If the truth is plainly laid out before people, speculation will continue. Why worry about it? Just do the job and move on.

Just my take on it.

To be fair, we are all well aware you thought our AD was a cotton-headed ninny muggins long before this week.

Our coach didn't win, so he got fired. No controversy there.

What was controversial?

If P gets bounced going 16-20 after a 10-3 top 15 finish, there is NOTHING controversial about Shafer being dismissed after going 14-23.

His job is likely more political than your job - unless you're a public figure or work closely with one.

Your analysis is far too shallow, and whether or not you agree with the firing, it's hard to argue that a significant contingent of the fan base disagreed. That, by definition, makes it controversial.

That logic only holds if you assume that all other factors are substantially similar AND Coach P's termination was not controversial.

All those empty seats spoke volumes.

People seem to like the guy, probably seems like their neighbor.

If you want more he's unable to count in football terms, and put our stud QB in massive harm's way and said the dumbest thing possible to justify it, he could've been fired on the spot for that one.

The bar has been set.

And btw the last two seasons are as bad record wise and statistically as Gerg.

Yes. There is a high probability that anyone with talent would have avoided a situation where SS thought it was rational to announce the terms of his contract.

This has also been undeniably a very rocky transition process - relative to both previous SU hires and hires at other peer schools.

He may turn out to be right. In fact, I hope he does. However, very little beyond blind faith inspires confidence in the guy. And, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that he will be a better AD than the doc (albeit unless he hires GRob again, football will likely improve under his tenure).

Greg won 1 game in 05. And no, this team was young and improved in s lot of key areas. Were they perfect? No. But many of their deficiencies were in areas where SS is typically strong, or they were a result of youth. At no point could you have said that about Greg's teams.

1. It's true about the seats, but you have to makes decisions about the long run of the program. Winning cures a lot, including attendance. I would have put him on the hot seat next year.

2. QB hits was/is my biggest criticism of the guy. Ironically, I got into several heated arguments on this very board about that issue, and I was not defending SS. However, nobody is perfectly good or perfectly bad (except GRob). The question is do the pros outweigh the cons.

Still, YOUR individual dislike of the guy doesn't make his termination not controversial.

I think we are ignoring the biggest piece of possible evidence in this puzzle. First, we all but confirmed that Ash was a candidate for this job. Second, there have been many articles written about Ash's urgent desire to be a HC. If these are true, then why would he mysteriously remove his name from contention?

Aside from an awful interview (less likely), I think it's very possible that he knew or was told which direction that Syracuse was going. Who that specific candidate is remains to be scene but perhaps a handshake offer has been accepted?
