Babers to Arizona OC/QB Coach

Pay article from The Athletic. Kind of surprised there is no discussion of Robert Wright, our new LB coach, who was the DC at UB until a few weeks ago. Pretty sure he is really highly thought of.

He's been remarkably ghost silent. Lots of people have said he would likely retire, but I don't necessarily see that. He's a career coach who is only 62. I absolutely could see him wanting to get one more chance to end his career on a high note, even if it is at a G5 type opportunity.

Our former coaches have a long history of "ghost silence" (my favorite kind of ghost). I'm hoping Marrone will write a book.

Did you say that about Don Brown? Or Jm Mora? Or Frank Martin?
I wouldn't put Lembo in the same category as any of those coaches. Maybe I should have said low rent retread. UMASS hoops is climbing up fast, by the way.

Nothing says climbing fast than losing to Harvard and Towson. They do have a nice win against West Virginia to be fair.

That was in the first weeks of the season. They have greatly improved, you know that's true.

Meh, retread city.
This is a fat, bald, middle aged man who has been a special teams coach for a long time. Worst of all, he went to Georgetown for college.

Now he is a very very good special teams coach. But you probably don’t want to hire a special teams coach as your head coach.

He is originally from Staten Island, so maybe that will help UB recruit NYC. But I don’t think anyone has ever considered him a good recruiter. He is great at coaching special teams. That is about it.

On the positive side, he has done well when he was a HC. The question is, why has no one been willing to give him a chance for so long since he got fired at Ball State?

I wonder if Nunzio was given a serious shot? Glad he's still with us but would have been happy for him to get the job!

UB had huge momentum going in football with Liepold and Oats in basketball, if they don't get this right it will be a big hole to get out of.

Buffalo’s best coach was out of the box…they’re not trying anymore.

Maybe he could end up being like Beamer was at VTech.

This could well be. Fat bald guys are probably undervalued by judgmental ADs and selection committees.

He has had a few stints as a HC and it looks to me as though he has done well at all of them, though the last couple of years at Ball State were kind of alarming.

I wish him well at UB.

He did have a drop off in his last year at Ball St. Generally, the only programs with high level special teams coaches are in the P5 and not all of them have good ones either. ( Cuse). They always talk about the 3 phases of football: Offense, defense and special teams, but special teams is almost always neglected. Could be a good angle as I think he can win quite a few games in the MAC with special teams if they are exceptional. This moves UB up on my list of teams that I will follow to see how that works out.
