Battle's Deadline

Tyus has planned for two years to declare for the NBA draft after his sophomore year. There isn’t much secrecy hear. He will stay in the draft unless his parents have a major say in his decision. From what we know about his parents, I’m sure they will let Tyus make the ultimate decision. As SU fans, we shouldn’t hold our breath thinking he’s coming back.

Yep. I have assumed he was gone ever since Carey declared the staff feels he could be a one and done. If Battle was still considering coming back, there wouldn’t be enough PT for the staff or Carey to even think that.

yeah def dont disagree. I truly hope whatever he chooses works out for him. I see pros/cons to both choices. Either way though, he's in a good position. his 21 year old shoes look pretty nice compared to my fading athletic 32 about to be 33 year old shoes even though i am very good looking for a premature bald guy with a beautiful wife and 2 kids.

Who cares if it was spur of the moment? The deadline is tomorrow. He could have pulled out at any point in between when he declared and now, and he hasn't. That, coupled with the fact that he worked out for a team today, suggests (and I emphasize "suggests") that he staying in the draft.

People can point to other factors, but the fact that he ostensibly received tepid feedback and still has withdrawn is a pretty good indication of where he's leaning, regardless of what some might like to believe.
Your conclusion may well be correct but, I believe, that Spock would call your thought process illogical.

Heurter still hasn't declared?
He actually has "declared." He just hasn't hired an agent, or stated that he will be hiring one. To stay in the draft, he technically doesn't need to "declare" again. But if he wants to stay in school, he must submit that request in writing no later than 11:59 pm today.

Actually, quite the opposite.

My expectation is based upon how things have unfolded [please note, not a "conclusion"] and is quite logical. Tyus ostensibly wanted to go through the evaluation to get the feedback from NBA types about his draft potential to inform his decision. He didn't hire an agent -- a sign that he was at least open to the process and the possibility of returning. Although he tested well athletically at the combine, his play didn't stand out [for a variety of reasons -- not all his fault], and he's gotten generally unfavorable feedback about his draft projection [or lack thereof, if yesterday's thread about not even having a second round draft grade is to be believed].

If Tyus were truly open to letting the assessment inform his decision, then he probably would have withdrawn already. If his preference wasn't to remain in the draft, then the information he's gotten would make the decision to return a seeming no-brainer. Therefore, my expectation is that he'll remain in the draft and take his chances.

Would love to be pleasantly surprised by Tyus announcing that he'll return. But he's had ample opportunity to pull his name out of contention, and ample reason for doing so due to the tepid feedback he received, and hasn't done so. Why do you think that is?

If he already made the decision to leave before he came to Syracuse as that was his plan, or even made the decision after the season, why not hire and agent?

An agents role is huge in the draft for a player.
He’s just that confident. He doesn’t need an agent, he doesn’t need to be drafted...heck, he doesn’t even need to be on a team.

It seems like hes gone. He prob has an agent behind the scenes and just isnt making it public. Honestly, its unfair to make these guys go through the process without representation. That being said, tyus is playing it smart by not announcing. Prevents some of the ridiculous backlash from the community.

Also, no chance JB doesnt already know. Therefore, there are people on this form who know but arent saying anything. I tend to think if he was coming back, wed know by now and we dont, so hes gone. Good luck to Tyus.
