Now that is what pisses me off more than anything...you wanna go to the G -league? Fine ...be a freaking man about it. Classless on him and whoever is advising him. Really hoped he went to the staff first and thought he did. Clearly shouldnt have given him the benefit of the doubt

yep immature and money hungry

Oh well, not gonna miss what we never had...

Our society created this atmosphere, where a kid sees more value in the g-league than a college education.

Hope it works out for him, otherwise his earning cap is about 30k annually unless he gets into the trades.

He wanted a bag...Cuse wouldn’t give it to him with all the FBI stuff going on so he went and found a bag from the G.
This is an interesting take.

A player of his standing could have chosen other schools with strings attached. He chose us and didn't benefit the same way. Then this option opened up.

I don’t begrudge anyone for doing what they think is in their best financial interests.

I could do without all the “I’m so important and making such a big stand” stuff though. You play minor league basketball. It ain’t that deep. The good players will make their money, same as ever.

And if he didn’t handle it correctly with the program, well...that kinda sucks.

Honestly, my only issue is that he's the only one doing this. If others join, it is what it is, but the fact Duke has 3 dudes better than him all playing the same position, still committed, bothers me.

I thought Zion showed some questionable traits when he committed to Duke but that guy, as of now, has 10x the character of the guy we just lost.

He ain't getting any endorsements. Not a high enough profile player. Agent cash advance, yes, but he ain't getting a shoe deal and won't be signing any other endorsements any time soon when he'll be playing in a league with literally zero exposure.
A full on shoe deal? No. But if you're Adidas or Nike, why wouldn't you throw $50k-$100 at not just him, but anyone else that might be the next big thing. Now normally the amateur charade prevents that but if players go this route it can all be out in the open. That's chicken scratch to them and could earn real goodwill with a kid that might someday sell millions of dollars worth of shoes for you.

I keep hoping this isn’t true. Doesn’t he see we have a clear shot at the championship next year. As I am trying not too lose my sheet, I also think that I only want SU too have people here that want to be here. U don’t love SU and u don’t want to be here, see ya.

Watch one of em stay two years also lol

That’s absolutely what’s going to happen. Throw 6 figures at him alone just for being the G league guy and he’s wearing your logo. He pans out, you already have a relationship.

No different than what adidas was doing to college kids.

Reading some of these responses is actually humorous. Everyone is blamed without even mentioning the root cause. I am sure that there is a large number of graduates on here from the Whitman School that are zealots of capitalism, the root cause previously mentioned. I am also sure that these zealots will respond with their predicable hate to this post. But, don't blame the kid for everything he has been taught by the society he grew up in.

Everything that we were taught about capitalism is pure excrement. Capitalism was best described by two mafiosa, Tony Soprano and in "The Godfather." Tony described capitalism as doing everything possible to "maximize profits." Of course, this is at the cost to others who will suffer from the greed of the capitalist. If some one uses moral conduct in their decision making process and is sympathetic to the consequences of others, this is called socialism. This is the great moral debate facing our country and our planet. Why would anyone expect sports to be exempt? Indeed, sports are a crucible for the process.

The other quote comes from "The Godfather" and is simply put as , "It's just business." Which is another way of explaining capitalism.

Let the haters begin...
This is fantastic.

Any top 15 recruit could get paid, why ours. Dumb luck? I don’t buy it.
likely the other top 15 recruits are already rolling in the money. if you read the Bagley articles his family got so much money while in high school they did not need to worry about additonaa amounts for 6 months.

If you watched the kids IG stories the past few months, he has almost no character

I'm sure he got an advance/signing bonus with an agent, but still peanuts compared to what he could make in the NBA draft. If a player goes this route, are they then in the draft next year or how does that work?
Shoe contract too I'm sure

From a pure basketball perspective, this move makes sense. From following the Miami Heat I can tell you that the coaching and instruction in the D league is far better than any college program. Just being rid of the practice time restriction makes a huge difference in development. Bazley will likely be a much better basketball player after a year in the D league than he would playing in college.

From a financial perspective, though, this is almost certainly a monumental mistake. The key to getting paid in the NBA is to get drafted based on your potential. The level of competition in college is such that NBA scouts can't truly know how well players are going to adapt to the next level. Hence all of the busts every year. With Bazley, though, the scouts will have a much better handle on his NBA potential after playing in the D league. I think it is extremely unlikely that he will help his draft status by going straight to the D league.

Of course! They only pay them 30K in the G, in the league they would cost 30x more. It has always been a cost containment issue with the NBA.

So the nba allows kids to go to the gleague but cant enter the draft :bat:

We probably lost Nate Roberts because Bazley has already signed with us. Ugh.
