If you've played as little as Del-Rio has up to this point, you DON'T know who he is yet.
We didn't learn who Tommy DeVito was until he was the full time starter.
He looked a million bucks before that. It's the competition, against the other team's 1st string, in games when it matters. That builds character. You don't get that in practice. That's when players either improve and rise to the moment, or they shrink from it. We don't know with Del-RIo yet.
