BC Postgame

This team had no talent. WR’s were good if we had someone to get them the ball, but this was the least talented team we have had in a while. Defense talent level is non-existent. I know everyone wants to bash ERob and he deserves his share of the blame, but who are the players on that side of the ball? Not 1 difference maker

I don’t think our WR’s are actually that good. But I’d be happy to be wrong. I think we need a good possession type WR from the portal, like a Alec lemon type guy that just always catches the balls, gets 1st downs and blocks.

There will need to be staff changers and a solid portal grab, especially at QB and both lines; we already have a very solid recruiting class!

I agree. I thought Gill, Cook, and Villari were good with Angeli. I like some of the young guys like both the Williams. Definitely not a position we should be content with.

Did we screw over Miami and the ACC again? LOL Now it is UVA versus Duke and if Duke wins then ACC gets nobody in the playoffs? LOL

If we won it would have been Miami vs UVA in the title game with winner for sure in playoffs? lol

I don't understand.

I don't understand.

I was reading some place that because of BC winning Duke won a tie breaker and that is why they are in the title game instead of Miami. If Duke wins they will not qualify for an auto bid for some reason. That is what I was reading don't know if it was true so came to ask. Seems we screwed Miami again or something.

Ah, gotcha.

I'm all for screwing over Miami, it's fun.

But the ACC has to change those tiebreaker rules like, last week. They should just go with CFB ranking.

If Duke wins this game, the ACC could be shut out of the playoffs. They should never allow that to even be a possibility.

That said, this will be Jim Phillips to the refs before the game.

There was one 7-1 team in the ACC, Virginia. We did not play them.

There were five 6-2 teams in the ACC... and Collins started against all five of them.

Filardi got the starts against UNC (2-6) and BC (1-7). So... we can trust Collins against the good ACC teams, but not UNC and BC????

If we had started Collins and won those two games, we would have finished 5-7, ahead of FSU and Va Tech. That would have made this a halfway decent season under the circumstances and given us a lot more momentum. If we had one one of them, that would have been an improvement. If we had just kept those games CLOSE, we could have given the kids another chance to get experience in a tight game down the stretch. Instead, we started Filardi... passed for 104 yards over those two games... and were blown out by UNC/BC... two not very good teams.

Meanwhile, even Angeli did not play a top 6 team in the ACC. Angeli got Clemson (4-4). SMU and Miami had better defenses than Clemson. Tennessee ended up 8-4. Yes, they lost to good teams and were good enough to end up at or in the top 25. They also had the 3rd worst defense in the SEC. UConn's record was based on good offense more than good defense. And Colgate was a stat-padding game.

Long story short... Fran should have started Collins all 8 games... and given meaningful PT to Carney and Filardi if/when appropriate in each game from #9 to #12. Starting Filardi over Collins was inexcusable and I will never get it.

He couldn't stick with Collins.

They needed to trust their scholarship evaluations and give Carney a legitimate shot. I don't want to hear about the red shirt, if they would have given him an actual chance it wouldn't have been an issue.

They put Filardi in position to fail.

The part that makes me VERY disappointed in Fran is that he is supposed to be about hating losing. As much as the fans. But obviously not... because he purposefully lost the UNC, ND, and BC games by starting Filardi over Collins (or Carney). I agree that Carney should have gotten MUCH more PT in the games he was used.

Speaking of special teams... we opened the ND game with a 37 yard kick return to the 41. Imagine if we followed that up with Collins throwing a 40 yard pass attempt. Instead, we run up the middle and then throw a pick-six. The offense was, as always, the problem.

You think Collins could have won us one game? Against anyone? Where, pray tell, is the evidence for that?

That's the point.

Collins started against teams that finished 30-10 in conference play. Passed for 1,000 yards.

Filardi started against 2 conference teams with a record of 3-15 (1-15 outside of playing us) and passed for 100 yards.

There is at least a chance that Collins might have played better against teams at the bottom of the ACC than he did against teams at the top. A chance.

If this was some other team... Minnesota... where the 2 QBs had stats like that, you would agree with me.

So, an interception one play sooner is your solution?
