Bourama Sidibe Updates

Jesse needs to be the starting center next year and I can’t stress that enough.
It's going to be like the Coleman/ Lydon situation. JB gives the starting nod to the vet but Edwards could get the majority of the minutes.

Hope they also bring in Dimon Carrigan as a backup 4/5. We can use the shot blocking in the zone and insurance if BS gets injured again
Doubtful...but he did announce hes verbally committed somewhere and announcing today at 5.

Got to think if that's the case, at least one of the bench is not seeing minutes. Unless Sid is coming back to do grad work and we can use him to fill a scholly but not play.

Otherwise, one of the forwards is going to basically be a practice guy/injury insurance.
My understanding is his scholly does not count against our 13 next year

He’d be the 3rd center if Sidibe is healthy..,
I feel the same way 100%! the only way I can rationalize this is that JB was up front with him & he's accepted a backup role.
I do not want another Kadary Richmond out there reminding me how bad of a decision it was every time those 2 players go on the court For their new team

Not bad news -- and probably better than anyone we might have been able to pickup, now that we've lost transfer alternatives to Maryland, Arizona State, etc.

PROS -- if Sid can get back healthy [big "if"], he's a pretty solid presence on the glass, a decent shot blocker, and he already knows the defense very well. He's also got some pretty decent ability around the basket, and this "extra" season should in theory give him another year to fill out a little more physically, with "good" weight.

CONS -- if he can't get healthy -- and objectively speaking, he's only been injury-free 1 out of the 4 years he's spent at SU -- then him coming back doesn't add value.

I think we still either need to add someone as insurance, or retain Frank. I wouldn't be comfortable gambling that Sidibe will be healthy enough to be a steady contributor.

Think this is more about education than basketball. Anything he can contribute on the court is a plus. Was Frank intiminated by those 11 minutes Bourama played this year?

Yeah - given that it's a "free" year for CDB, and that it doesn't count against our total of 13, then why not?

IF he can contribute, then that's a bonus!
IF not, then (as long as it doesn't cost us Frank now), that's a fairly low-risk gamble.

I can...it is running away from a challenge.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I know way too many people that have gotten themselves into horrible life situations because they believed they needed to stick it out playing a losing game or got stuck thinking "I'm not a quitter."

A lot of people would probably be a lot happier reading the tea leaves and getting themselves into better situations than sticking around fights they're going to lose.

Note - I am making ZERO COMMENT as to whether in Frank's specific case he's in a good or bad situation. Simply stating that sometimes change is the right move, and "toughing things out" can be the wrong choice.

So frank is going to leave because a guy that couldn't play last year at all, says he is coming back. Do we want a guy like that?
He’s an automatic third option.

I’m just not sure Sidibe plays a full season with his knee - maybe Jim and him have understanding of this. JB might have told him, hey you aren’t starting and if you do you are playing 15-20 mins a game.

Very happy for Bourama. One of the smartest players we have ever had in the program. Hope this enables him to complete a graduate degree. We could use his knowledge and experience even if his knees fail him again and he is unable to play.

Bourama has been here for 4 seasons. He averaged 12.4 mpg as a frosh, 10.1 as a sophomore, 24 as a junior and then played 15 minutes his entire senior season. He has never averaged more than 6.0 ppg (though he did average 7.6 rpg as a junior).

I don't think he is a given to win a starting job or even a lock to play significant minutes.

Glad he is coming back. The competition for playing time should be fun to watch.

Exactly what I don't like and frankly that will piss me off ! I mean literally that makes no damn sense. These are the things that blow my mind when it comes the JB!! Why would you let go of a potential star that has 4 years of eligibility for guy that only has one and probably gonna get injured??!! can somebody help me find the logic in that! I Expect no answers on that question because there is none.
If we lose Edwards or Frank that is squarely on coach's shoulders!!!!
Um why wouldn't you bring back the best center on your roster when healthy if he wants to come back? I'm not sure what you saw to say that Frank is a potential star?

Yup.

Plenty of people in bad relationships, bad jobs, etc. who have stuck it out, and regretted it.

It's hard to know when to battle thru, and when to punt.
And that decision is up to each individual, for what's 'best' for them, period.

What a ridiculous statement, and I can't stress that enough.

It's Sids job to lose. Not only is he a 5th year player who has paid his dues, he is better. Jesse will get plenty of time. And I even hope to see Frank quite a bit.

The idea that you distribute the starting designation or mpg on the basis of whose feelings might get hurt, or who might transfer out, needs to stop.

I'm honestly having a tough time seeing how we even get to 11 or 12 scholarship guys for next season if his doesn't count.

Edwards has the chance to be our best zone anchor since Christmas. He’s bigger, stronger and has better hands and knees than than Sid.

It doesn't "count" against our total cap of 13.
Meaning, he could be the 14th guy on scholarship, and it's disco.

He would absolutely still count as a scholarship player.
It's just that we could now have 14, or even 15 (IF Marek came back), since 'graduating seniors' are granted an optional extra year.

I’m happy with this. Not seeing much in the way of appreciation for what kind of player Sid was turning into at the end of 19-20. I have no idea what the long term prognosis for his injuries are, but if he is healthy he could be a very key player for us.
