Brycen Goodine Transferring to Providence

Geez, dude- this isn’t a competition, at least not to me. You wanna pat yourself on the back, then power to you...you’re the winner. Hooray for you!
If you can’t grasp the basic premise of opportunity afforded, versus opportunity implied, then i can’t help you. But you do you, bruh.
All in good fun, bruh. I realize that we see it differently - I think that Brycen got a reasonable chance to contribute, and he just didn't do enough. You think he didn't get enough of a chance. It's an opinion at the end of the day.

lol, that’s a pretty big assumption to make based on me pulling some possible projected numbers out of my...
Just don’t see us filling in the top scorer in the acc from what you presented

Well - I agree that we won’t have anyone as dynamic or consistent as Hughes.

But if we get at least modest improvement from 3 other returning starters and Quincy, and somebody (I’m thinking Marek has the best chance) makes a big jump, and if Kadary is ready - that makes us quite a bit better in the backcourt than we were this year.

I don’t know - I think in a best case scenario like that, we’d be solidly better than this year.

But we don’t often get the best case scenario.

The kid hit three or more 3-pt FGs nine different times last year in ACC games. And you think his big moment was spacing? You're too funny.

I don't envy you, my man - you've got 2 more years of watching SU with Buddy playing significant minutes, even though you know in your heart that "he's not a shooting guard" (whatever that means). That's gotta suck for you.

And why add on the crap at the end about thinking that a kid who made 97 3s on the season while shooting at a 37% clip is somehow equivalent to the "bench dude that just dunks"? Nobody thinks that - you just come across as a nut when you write stupid stuff like that.

I'm a tad nuts on this issue! I concede that. :)

All fair points - I just don't see a system where you can have a shooting guard like this that doesn't feature an insanely dynamic PG, and SF. We haven't had a PG like that in a bit, although we do sometimes do fill that bill at the SF slot.

I think he can, and will, continue to devastate mid-majors throughout his career. Also, some of the more woeful defensive teams in the ACC. In those instances, I think he can offset some of his defensive inadequacies. It also helps that the other players can function more like the dynamic PG/SF you need for BB to succeed. That's not going to happen against the better/faster defensive teams. It's a problem and will remain a problem. One people are happy to ignore when we're crushing Cornell......

However, when you're a specialist, whether that be defensively, shooting, rebounding - you're providing one thing. If that's mostly all you do - I really hope you're not playing 40 MPG. That's more or less my point. It wasn't good enough to endear Roberson to JB, and it shouldn't be enough to endear his son to him either.

* Also, I added that at the end because I think people overvalue the three - because it's exciting. Like a dunk. Every once in a bit someone comes up with some great post about why someone like, say, Pascal Chukwu last year, should shoot more because his FG% is like 80%.

Everyone laughs, because, well, it's stupid. All the dude does is dunk...Well, this overvaluing of the three is an equivalent to that IMO. People are ignoring every other aspect of the game of basketball, because threes are worth one more point than two, and that's exciting!! Just like dunks are.

I wouldn't call him a shooting guard, because he couldn't defend a shooting guard - too slow. He doesn't have a great handle, can't create his own shot on his own with regularity, and even then he's still rather dependent upon waiting for the mismatch (equally slow, shorter kids), and does not create for others. All things I would expect a BIG minute guard to do at least somewhat adequately. He also can't get a loose ball to save his life.

He won’t.
This kid left because our team doesn’t play the bench unless it’s absolutely necessary.
he wont what? sit the bench? i think it sucks he is leaving but he isnt some wunderkid we left eating pine needles.

wonder where Carey ends up? uconn, st johns, rutgers, any of the nyc area schools need guards?

Carey should go to Iona. He doesn't have much in the way of half court guard skills but he is close to a perfect fit for Pitino's system.

Good luck to Brycen. I think he will do well at PC. Very well.

That post speaks volumes about the program.

But no one has been calling for bench players to get more minutes than Joe or Jackson. Just some more minutes.
I find it funny that statement is an actual justification for how our rotations work.

Nobody wants the bench to play more than the starters.
Our bench isn’t miles worse though.
Girard and Boeheim aren’t top half of the league starters.
