Buffalo Bills 2017 Why do I put myself through this season thread

If that happens the Bills front office staff is going to need the national guard to protect them because the fans up there will riot.

If we get a 1st round pick for Tyrod I will be doing backflips wherever I travel for a whole year!

Would Bills fans be pissed if they traded Taylor for another good pick and then signed Colin Kapernick to start.
Im fine signing Kapernick but not as the starter to replace a traded Tyrod Taylor. Rather throw Peterman out there.

Yeah I mean if you guys can get a first rounder I would do it.

The Bills are better off going 4-12 than 8-8.

Honestly... I like this.

Sammy can't stay healthy and Jordan Matthews is legit.

Gaines replaces Darby.

We got an extra 2nd and 3rd.

Good move IMO.

Keep in mind that Matthews is on the final year of his rookie contract. So either the Bills pony up the bucks or watch him walk. Having said that, as an Iggles' fan , I really liked Matthews. But he was almost exclusively a slot receiver here and doesn't have the speed you'd want on the outside. A great possession receiver, though and a great work ethic. Bills also did well getting a 3rd rounder as well. But the Birds were desperate for CB's. It was by far the greatest need for the team.

This shocks me.

I would figure the fans would rather be bad and develop talent rather than try and scrape a 8-8 season.

Ppl don't want Kap representing Buffalo.

**k being the Browns for a season. I want nothing to do with a tank.

I honestly don't think we're tanking. Why get players back in this deal if that's the case? Just stack up on more picks.

And there is zero chance we get a 1 for Tyrod.

Kap got his worst road reception at Buffalo last year. There's no way the Bills could sign him.

I want to see Tyrod in this offense that is supposedly a "great fit" for a guy like him.

I also want to see him throwing to 3 WRs that are all better than anything we had for the majority of last year.

You will know IF the Bills are tanking IF they trade Lesean McCoy. If they trade him they are in full tank mode and neck and neck with the Jets for who will go 0-16.

If they keep McCoy then they will look an ok football team and get there 5-6 wins and maybe more if they catch some breaks. He is literally all they have left on offense

On paper, the offense is better today than it was last year.

Absolutely stunned on the Watkins/Darby trades. My heart and my head are doing battle on how to analyze this one. Few thoughts:

1) More than ever, Whaley's entire tenure is going to go down as a disaster. Two first round draft picks for Sammy Watkins which yielded a second round pick and a CB coming off IR, after an admittedly good rookie year. I am hoping that there were significant concerns over his long term durability because outside of McCoy, Watkins was by far the most talented player on the roster. Hard to secure a replacement asset anywhere close to his talent/value with a second round pick. But if he isn't healthy, or had no desire to sign in Buffalo- this will prove to be a good move long term.

2) I don't like the Darby deal- I love it. Darby was inconsistent at best last year and not well suited to this scheme that McDermott wants to run. To flip that for Matthews and a pick is good yield. If Matthews is good - pay him. If not- he walks, but we have the pick. Next years draft continues to loom large...

3)...Lots said and written about next year's draft. This plan only works if it yields a franchise quarterback, in my opinion. The roster needs depth and talent- but without that QB, we are just fooling ourselves. If first round assets are swung to achieve this- every move is worth it.

Bottom line is the Bills sell hope every year. Like everybody else I am tired of buying hope, losing games, and watching yet another rebuild with the QB equivalent of the poo-poo platter. McD and Beane at least seem like they have a plan...but I am sure I typed those words about others at one point or another. Sooner or later we all deserve results.

Best offseason transaction, it appears, was conducted by yours truly, when I jettisoned my Bills season tickets and upgraded my SU football tickets...

It's a decent article but if Tyrod Taylor can't show himself to be a Franchise QB with a solid Offensive Line now in Year 3 together, LeSean McCoy, Charles Clay, Jordan Matthews, Zay Jones and Anquan Boldin, then it's pretty clear he's not a Franchise QB.

Not to mention that Dennisons Offense is supposed to be a better fit for Taylor.

People are acting like we just had a fire sale on offense. We traded away a dude who plays like 5 games a year and let a backup RB and a #2/3 WR walk. My goodness...

People can be worried about defense if they'd like. We revamped our entire secondary and dont have a ton of depth, but this offense, on paper, is better than last years.

Can someone save me some time and list whose picks we now have in Rounds 1 / 2 & 3? Want to know which teams to root for to suck.

Kansas City's 1st
LA Rams 2nd
Philadelphia Eagles 3rd

After a day to absorb the trades, I give Buffalo a B rating.

The Darby for Matthews and a 3rd was an A+ deal. We got a high round pick and a good WR who will likely be resigned and fits our offense that features big bodied possession WR's.

The Watkins deal is a C. I get why they did it but wish they could have gotten more. EJ Gaines had a good rookie year and if he regains that form, he's a legit corner but if rumors are true that Trumaine Washington is on the block, then I'd much rather have gotten him. The 2nd might as well be a borderline 1st with how bad LA is projected to be so I'm assuming they wouldn't offer that pick and Washington for a potential superstar WR who can never stay healthy and will command an OBJ type contract next year.

I think the Bills philosophy is to be a team with a chance at the WC while building for the post-Brady future. With the dead cap hits on Buffalos main players, id be shocked if they move anyone else aside from a Ragland type.

This is not a tank and I'm sick of people saying that.

An offense with Cordy Glenn, Richie Incognito, Eric Wood, Charles Clay, Jordan Matthews, Anquan Boldin, Zay Jones, LeSean McCoy and Tyrod Taylor in his make/break season is not tanking.

A defense with a defensive line of Lawson, Hughes, Dareus, Williams that resigned Lorax, brought in Hodges and Hyde, is not tanking.

We're what we were before the trades. A perennial .500 team that could finish 6-10 or 10-6.

Not sure why people don't think Buffalo could get a 1st round pick for Tyrod. He's an above average starting QB and that's roughly the price for one of them. Hell, Philly got a 1st and a 4th for Bradford last year (who I think is a bit better than Tyrod, but not a lot better).

What team is going to give you a 1st for Tyrod one month before the season starts and he won't know that teams offense by Week 1? What team will do that?

Jets wont they just signed McCown this offseason and have Hackenberg as their back-up plus they are in total rebuild mode they aren't trading a 1st rounder away.
Cleveland isn't they just used a 2nd rounder on Kizer
SF isn't giving up a 1st rounder for a QB (cause they know its likely a very high 1st rounder as they aren't any good)
Denver just used a 1st rounder on Paxton Lynch last year they can't give up another 1st rounder for Tyrod
Baltimore just signed a free agent QB today and Ozzie Newsome values draft picks like gold.

Who is the team giving up that 1st rounder?

It would probably require an injury to a team that has playoff hopes. To be clear, I don't think Tyrod is going anywhere. I'm simply pointing out that a 1st round pick is roughly the price that should be expected in the unlikely scenario where he's actually traded.

Regarding your list of teams, obviously the first 3 would never do it. I could kinda see Denver doing it, but they'd have to be very disappointed in how Lynch/Siemien are looking to consider it. I doubt Baltimore would do it just because of how much they're paying Flacco, but come on...them signing Thad Lewis would not have any impact on them pursuing a legitimate starting QB if they felt so inclined.

Ultimately though, I don't think Buffalo has any interest in trading him; I highly doubt they want to start Yates/Peterman this year.

Even with an injury to a playoff teams QB no team would give up a 1st round pick for Tyrod. Not when guys like RGIII and Kaepernick (yeah I know I know) are out there and can be had without giving up any draft picks let alone a 1st rounder!
