Buffalo Bills 2017 Why do I put myself through this season thread

being a Raiders / Cuse fan especially in the Gerg era was just as brutal. Thank God Reggie saved them from salary cap hell, and that Al died.

Just watched the DVR of Eagles game.

Thoughts:

Ed Hochuli's crew threw 24 flags... disagreed w 80% of them. Just an awful crew. You are not the show Ed. The players are.

Tyrod was pretty bad. Oline didn't help much and neither did the vanilla play calling but he missed some easy throws and made some poor decisions. He did do some good things tho.

I like Peterman. We may have something with him. Awesome footwork and pocket presence for a rookie. Made some impressive throws on the edge and kept finding his tight end (O'Leary) - one on an impressive seam throw dropping it perfectly between 2 defenders. Also like his running ability and his toughness. I don't think he has slid once this preseason and he's had 5-10 runs.

Other thoughts... Alexander looks quick still. Encouraged by that at his age. He should have a good year.

D is looking stout against the run. That was our biggest weakness last year imo... Hughes could have a big year. The entire dline is just a much better fit for the 4-3 scheme.

Shady and Williams look good. Should not be too much of a drop in play between Williams this year and what Gillislee gave us last year.

Zay got some targets and looked good on the edge and over the middle. Made a couple great catches. I'm impressed.

Ticked Streater got hurt. I like his size. Hope he's not out long. I think he could be a solid #4 WR for us. Really the depth at WR is much better than last year. Philly Brown and that rookie Shorts look like good 5 and 6's to me. Andre Holmes doesn't do it for me and I hope he's cut for compensatory pick reasons.

A lot of freaking out on 2 Bills Dr. I think it's overreaction. This is still a fringe playoff team to me. Hopefully we can stay healthy for once.

Worst case scenario... if Tyrod goes to shiz and we're struggling by mid year I'd like to see what Peterman can do.

Great breakdown!

I heard Gaines looked pretty solid as well. He and Darby are basically the same player except one excelled as a rookie as man defender and the other excelled as a zone defender. We run zone so Gaines makes more sense than Darby.

I agree that with how J Will looks, letting Gilly walk was the right move.

So if we look at things objectively and without freaking out, offensively, are we dramatically different in essentially the same offensive personnel with a WR group of Watkins/Woods/Goodwin or Jones/Matthews/Boldin? Given the fact the first group can't stay healthy and all 3 of our current WRs, IMO, are better than anyone not named Sammy, including the addition of solid depth that doesn't fall off a cliff after the top two, im going to say we still have the same potential.

Taylor might want to consider stepping up though because he has no excuses. The defense should be much better and he has solid weapons. Assuming the offensive line gels and Glenn comes back, this is make or break and with the way Peterman (against 2's and 3's) has looked, Bills fans aren't going to be chill about an offense that goes 3 and out all game with Tyrod at the helm.

He looked pretty washed up in their last game. Wonder if he, or the Bills, knew it was over after he gave it a shot.

If he wanted to play for a ring he'd be on another team and those teams haven't reached out to him.

Based on some things said by folks within the organization when Boldin first arrived, it seemed they were planning on keeping him in the organization after he stopped playing. That may be off the table.

What changed? Any idea?

Well it's tough to stay in the Bills family if you've never been in the Bills family. I don't have a problem with a role since he supposedly has leadership qualities but probably not in the cards.

I just love reading this thread.

So Bills.

You can't write this stuff, lol.

In reality this may be a blessing in disguise. Bills are not winning the Super Bowl this year. Give snaps to guys that can contribute beyond this season.

Also he looked like he was in cement on Thurs.

The season hasn't even started yet and the thread has fulfilled pretty much every single expectation I could have had.

Oh, you just wait until Preseason Game 3 if Tyrod has another performance like the last. You will need to bring a fire extinguisher into the thread for all our H0T Takes.

RUMOR going around today is Tampa Bay is trying to pull off a trade to get Lesean McCoy from Buffalo

Is anyone in buffalo not available by trade??

Have they puts the rights to calling Jim Kelly and Bruce Smith as alumni up on the block as well???

We've already given Norwood a Ring...

Would not surprise, if you are going to tank, then tank and get rid of all of them. I don't really think McDermott is digging current culture of the franchise and probably wants his guys in there ASAP. I like Shady but he wasn't happy about the Watkins trade, he's also 29 and a running back in the NFL. Get BUCS running back and some draft picks and keep moving forward and wait for Brady to retire, it's really the smart play

Unless there giving up a 1st round pick (there not) that's not going to happen.

Tend to agree but certainly never hurts to listen, If they to trade him it will be a contest between the Bills and jets as to who is tanking worse

I just don't see this happening, but then again, I didn't think Boston would actually trade the pieces required for Kyrie, so who knows haha.

But my thoughts on both sides of this rumor as a fan of both Tampa and Buffalo:

Tampa:
I wouldn't give up much at all for McCoy. I suspect other teams would offer far more than us. Tampa is already going to likely have to cut a RB that they like this preseason and I don't think McCoy is a major upgrade over Doug Martin. If Tampa were interested in someone from the Bills, I would think it would be Incognito. If I were Tampa and I were required to make an offer for McCoy, I'd be offering Doug and a mid-late draft pick (like a 5th round pick).

Buffalo:
I just don't think that Buffalo is tanking; at least not yet. If a team offers them a 1st or 2nd round pick for McCoy, I think they'd jump on it. If a team, like Denver for example, offers a 2nd or 3rd and Chad Kelly or something like that, I think they'd consider it. I guess we'll see what happens, but I don't think Buffalo is TRYING to trade McCoy. I think they'd be wise to listen to offers, but I don't think they're aggressively trying to move him.

If I had to guess, the following teams would be interested in McCoy:
Denver
Philly
Chargers
Giants?
Washington?
Green Bay?

We have to trade away a lot more than McCoy to tank worse than the Jets and Browns. Since neither of those teams are likely trading with us no matter what ammo we offer, I think we should just play out the season and see what happens.

We have the same potential now as we did 2 weeks ago. See what's available after camp cuts for Speed WR, OT, depth LB and veteran DB and see if we can fill any of those holes.
