Class of 2023 C Owen Freeman (IL) Portal from Creighton

I don't think Donnie would ever be a good defender anywhere. He can't guard smaller, quicker players due to his average lateral agility, even though he has the length. And he certainly doesn't have the strength to battle inside defensively against bulkier or stronger players.

He's a skinny, rangy player without top end athleticism. He could be better with a full effort defensively, but it's really hard to see how he'd ever be a good defender.

He has things the other Freeman does not have quick feet, ability to move and jump

So what is the latest here? Is Owen still in town? Are we close or did he leave town and we are concentrating elsewhere such as Fielder?
Last I heard he’s taking a visit to Auburn sometime this week/weekend. Not sure on the Fielder speculation. Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re keeping his visit under raps as well though.

I don’t like to see St Louis listed here. Schertz is a great proven coach and they now have serious NIL after his negotiation with us.
Don't like to see St Louis here because I know they are looking to make a SPLASH, but I like to see St Louis here because I trust there talent evaluation if we do end up landing him. These moves are making me really trust GMAC and his staff and what they are building.

If he indeed takes these visits that is bad for us, a transfer usually pulls the trigger on or right after a visit and it’s been days now
For a guy that was injured and doesn't have a shiny reputation over the last 18 months it's not easy to set a price. I'm sure we gave him a lowball offer and he's seeing what Auburn will give him. Then agents and negotiations after.

Similar to Folefac he doesn't know if he's worth more or even less than what we're offering because he may not have other P5 offers yet.

You are "sure" we lowballed him? Seems more likely that he has had multiple P5 contacts and is now leveraging offers between the 3 programs offering the most. His agent knows he is going to get paid at market rate despite the risk, so do the programs recruiting him the hardest.

Typically if you high ball someone they don's say well I'm gonna go visit Auburn to see what # they give me. just my opinion

To add to your statement, paying for transfers is a crap shoot. There are reasons why players transfer and why coaches want the players for their teams.

Syracuse paid a lot for Tait George last year and he did not play up to expectations and was gone within a year. William Kyle on the other hand was looking for another chance to show how he could play and did show up for Syracuse last year. Still was the money paid forward meet the expectations that coaches want. In both cases, I would say no because overall the end-result was a losing W-L record.

GMAC is going have similar success and failure with the money he pays out for the players this upcoming season. Individually, they may be worth what was paid them but it is how they come together as a team working for a common goal. Gerry has a mixture of defensive and offensive skills in the transfers/recruits coming in. The X factor will be how the players bring these skills together to produce a winning season.

I’m impressed with the intensity level of Gavin Doty, Garwey Dual and Aiden Tobiason have, the potential that Ryan Moesch, Abdramane Siby, Sadiq White, 3M and Kiyan Anthony bring and the hard work ethic that Tasmin Goodrick and others have. Put all this together with their overall experience and good, solid coaching which the new staff offers and the team only has to mesh well together to be successful next year. I will leave the term “successful” without a firm definition right now.

I do expect there will be at least two possibly three more players added to the team before next season. I believe that the new players will have similar intensities as the current players have.

Nice post. I agree that they are assembling some nice pieces. I also agree that they need probably another 3 guys - a PG, a Center and another forward. While I like Folefac, we need a couple more guys who are good from three.

Yup.

The context of my post was only in response to the OP who was "sure" we low balled Freeman.

Tate George. Now that takes me back to happier days.
