Chip West now hired by Wake Forest

Agree and my guess is Dino is probably pretty aware of the situation. He is not a dumb guy. Things are shifting some for differing reasons. What matters is what things look like when the dust settles and whether the revised staff can get the team to another bowl again next year.
Phoneline getting hammered with calls from really good FCS and Highschool coaches. We will build back better.

This thread is the worst. Dino has two years left on his contract. He’s not a lame duck (doesn’t mean he can’t be bought out next year.) And thamel reported that Wake was targeting west.

the rumor is 2024

So, assuming that’s accurate, then there are 2 possible results after next season:

Syracuse wins 6+ games, makes a bowl game for 2nd straight year, and Dino gets extended*

Syracuse wins 5 or fewer games, and Dino gets shown the door.

I’m 144% rooting for Option 1, not because I think Dino is an amazing coach - I do like him very much in the CEO/face of the program mode -
but because it seems like a very fraught and perilous time in P5 football to have to try to do a reboot.
Especially for a “have not” football program like Cuse.

* his contract should be some sorta rolling 3-year extension after every bowl-eligible season, and have a VERY Cuse-friendly buyout structure.

I don’t think we need to worry about him being poached by a factory or the NFL anymore, given his age and record.

Thamel and his funky eyebrows can go pack sand :)

Every coach and player is on a 1 year contract no matter the school. Every off season is now NFL level movement.

That may be the case for every other school but Syracuse, we don't have the boosters or the willingness to pay the buyouts this would require.

This is interesting we didn’t hear ahead of time about Nebraska or Minnesota or NC State…

maybe a ploy by chip to get us to match a raise he has been offered?
That’s my thought, leaks tend not to happen by accident before a deal is signed

It's so true, you'd think we were 14-0 with a Rock of Gibralter defense and Air Coryell offense the way our guys are in demand

Or that there are some terrible vibes working for Dino. He and Anae clearly didn't get along. But I'm kind of shocked to see all these guys making lateral moves. I mean, Monroe was the DC in waiting. I don't understand, unless Dino is a bad boss to work for.

More likely he’s negotiating for an extension and that’s not going well. His staff is reacting.

I think Dino's gotta have another winning season before he gets an extension. Or else Wildhack isn't doing his job.

There is also a possibility West's agent might be using this to help get his client a raise from Syracuse.

Wake lost their CB coach to Stanford.

The connections between Chip and Clawson and Lambert are real. I am sure they would love to hire Chip.

But it sounds like West's agent is all about the benjamins here. I hope so.
i hope his agent is all about the west's lol

What are you talking about?

Despite all that has been written or said about "family" you manage to pull this nonsense out of your backside.

In the world of college sports if Dino goes into the 2023 season without a contract extension he is certainly a lame duck. Without one exactly what would he be saying to recruits in advance of the December 2023 early signing date?
I still think he gets a 1-2 year extension this Spring with a significantly reduced buyout, but I’m starting to have doubts. Also maybe that’s not acceptable to him.

Lame duck would mean he doesn’t have a contract after next season.

Yeah, maybe I’m wrong here, but I don’t ever remember receiving reports that a coach was being courted before they left. The report is typically that they’re gone.

We may lose Chip West here, but this smells a hell of a lot more like leverage.

PS - I’m receiving reports that my wife is coveted by the Amazon delivery driver. I see his truck on my Ring camera EVERYDAY.
