Chris Carlson on SU & Weitsman

Perhaps, but people make that kind of jump because of his past actions.

Telling people he “accidentally” acquired a website and then “donated” it deceitful as Fudge. He bought it and tried to extort the university for $250k. Then when the school said no, took to social media to at least get some PR out of the move. And even that backfired.
"The school said Weitsman’s lawyers initially asked Syracuse to endorse a $250,000 valuation for his donation. He said that valuation was determined by outside experts he hired."

He wasn't looking for $250,000, he was looking for the tax write off, from what I read. Not exactly the dastardly deed you make it out to be.

Dude get off the board and start your own pro AW site. We know where you stand. I quoted directly what AW said from the article about make a wish. He thought he deserved to be on the Jumbotron with the make a wish kid and he said it bugged him the most when they said no.
It doesn't say that at all, you made up the whole dialogue. He requested that the Make-a-Wish recipient be put on the jumbotron. The request was rejected. He offered to step away. He didn't ask to be part on the jumbotron. It's amazing what people fabricate. If you would stop making crap up, it wouldn't need clarification. Trust me, I get sick of this, too.

Word for word from the article Fog. Again. What does step out of the screen mean. Please explain. He didn’t want to be on the screen you’re saying.

“ He said his request to have a Make-A-Wish guest shown on the dome’s Jumbotron late in the season was rejected, even after he offered to step out of the screen.”

Who’s fabricating a direct quote from the article now. Me or you?

Can we all agree that the reason Adam is no longer a donor is because the university was forced to make a choice between the Lallys and Adam? And, they made the easy choice as the Lallys are huge donors as opposed to Adam's, at the time, significantly smaller donation, which was mostly trasactional. That's the gist, right?
Well, maybe.

There is also the issue that JW told AW that he was welcome to donate to the collectives. The choice appears to be AW's.

Where do you think Adam was sitting? Next to the Make-a-Wish recipient, right? So, he offered to get up out of his seat to get out of the shot. It is understandable that his initial request didn't involve him having to move. This is logic.

Ahh. I misread that. Correct, he was looking to get the write off. Still wasn’t portrayed accurately by him.

Yea I don’t think it’s extortion, I mean a lot of people inflate charitable donations to decrease tax liability. Ever donate clothes to the Salvation Army? That suit you bought 10 years ago with the frayed pant cuffs is still worth $100.

I agree. He has a couple of reasons. One, is obviously he likes to be involved.

Really? Is this true? I have a bunch of old clothes to donate!!!

Well value is in the eye of the beholder but certainly you can inflate the value. I could be mistaken but the IRS might have values assigned to clothing now. I haven’t had to itemize deductions in like 4 years, but with the SALT coming back it’s game on.

Don’t have a dog in a fight between rich people with big egos but To say he’s not “a major donor” when he’s given well over 1million makes the school look very small. I think the VP of communications at a communications school can do better. That’s just a nasty comment. And every person on this board would feel belittled if it happened to them.

I can’t agree with that. Sounds like the Lally’s were part of the equation but far from all of it. That piece suggested SU’s discomfort with Weitsman occurred long before there was a surfacing of animosity between those two.

I wonder if after this expose, Etan will continue to act as the useful idiot for AW. My guess is that he will, he’ll keep getting whatever minimal bag AW is sending him and keep carrying water.
While I agree that most of the stuff is what we already knew, I think it will be good for the school to have some clarity here. Too many people thought we were just turning away millions from some savior donor even though JB told us years ago that was not the case. Now that everybody knows the truth and that this guy is basically a fraud, the school can go forward and continue with the fundraising we so desperately need.

But he hasn't "given" anywhere close to $1 million to the school according to the article.

The issue is that he didn’t “donate” a million dollars to SU. He paid money to buy premium tickets and a luxury suite. That’s a purchase, not a donation.

Sounds like the JMA Dome could have been Weitsman Dome. He might have embellished that thought too. AW can still donate whenever he wants. Let’s see what happens.

Well said! That Aiden media thing really painted a different picture and I had alot of people send that around. People thought 10s of millions were off the table yearly from him.

For reference the equivalent of the million dollars he gave so far is the same as someone making 100K in CNY giving $66.66.

Hopefully people see the context.

A million dollars is still a million dollars. That is a lot of money.

I look forward to when this is all no longer a topic of discussion. We have so many more things to sort out right now with our programs in this new reality.
Yea I desperately need some real sports. Losing Money betting the ponies at Saratoga only gets me so far.

In no way do I believe he would have ponied up $25 million + to name the dome. The I was looking into it reads again as someone trying to show how much value he brings, without having to pay for it.

people are over complicating this. The article makes total sense

Rich people have egos

The chancellor is a nerd and a square. He doesn’t like running any compliance “yellow lights”

AW loves publicity and overhypes things. he has money and $1m is still material.

BOT members have LOTS of power. In the 1990s, I used to take them around campus. Watched them grill coach P for 30 minutes with dumb questions. He complied with a smile

If the Lallys give $25m they win every time. It doesn’t seem like it is explicitly “us or AW”. But they donate the right way and easy choice for the school if that choice needs to be made

I applaud Dasher for trying to broker a truce. It would have been huge, but then back to the egos involved…
