That’s how I read it, as well."The school said Weitsman’s lawyers initially asked Syracuse to endorse a $250,000 valuation for his donation. He said that valuation was determined by outside experts he hired."
He wasn't looking for $250,000, he was looking for the tax write off, from what I read. Not exactly the dastardly deed you make it out to be.
If you’ve ever tried to acquire a .com URL with a strong name, it’s expensive. The value of such a URL is something that is determined between the owner and buyer, or by an ‘arbitrator.’ While I think $250k is an optimistic assessment, for the purpose of a tax declaration, it’s not insane, and that amount wasn’t to be paid by SU. The amount of $1 countered by SU, though, is insane. “Extortion?” He had something of value, wanted to ‘optimize’ his taxes, was given an offensive counter offer by the school and just said sod it—take it for nothing.
A lot of people are ‘reading into’ article statements with their own prejudices and distorting matters…. What I found interesting was that AW seemed to provide answers for anything requested, but the other parties did not or were ‘selective.’ They’ll possibly say that was for ‘legal reasons,’ but whatever. I also liked that AW was putting money toward players I/we weren’t aware of—the women’s team, Peter Carey, Joe G, etc. The amounts may not have been high, but it also feels like we are looking at those numbers from three years ago in the prism of today’s numbers and saying it’s not a lot of money.
I find it very easy to not be offended by AW’s social media. I don’t see it. Re: the Lallys… never heard of them until this year. Appreciate any donors, but since hearing of them, I don’t get god vibes. There is a lot of petty **** going on somewhere and my most simple take is that the bigger money, quieter types had their feelings hurt when the smaller money louder types were getting all the ink.
