Chris Carlson on SU & Weitsman

How about thank you for your interest. We will continue to study the matter.
Yeah, I would have responded like that as well. I would assume that legal/pr has advised him not to engage in any fashion.

I have no doubt your communication, was seen and discussed and the group decided no response was the correct response.

Or maybe they advised them to respond as you stated and he overruled.

This 1000x. When Adam was a “friend of the program” the athletic department was about facilities, facilities, facilities. I could dig up threads here where people were bemoaning how far behind we had fallen. They had a huge campaign going!

The only facility that Adam donated to, was upgrading his own private box (which, the rumor is, he thought the school should have paid for).

This guy is your savior?!?! C’mon!

He was never among the biggest donors ever - 200k/year in the world of whales, is whale shitake - why do people think he’d be making a difference in the world of NIL.

The money he donated for those seats has been replaced, and other donors have stepped up to shell out real BIG money for players.

He’s fools gold - Lucy with the football.
I highly doubt he has a net worth of 1B too. He has a carefully curated public persona, all driven by his paid SEO operation that claims he’s a billionaire. It’s all self reported. And doesn’t jive with the revenue his business delivers in that industry. Just lots of red flags.

Kinda. It was before the extravagant NIL deals. But my understanding is that the vast majority of our booster whales have donated money for facilities. Hundreds of millions of dollars towards that critical need. And the article makes clear that Weitsman never donated at all for facilities. That’s where his millions could have made a real difference years ago.

He chose not to, which is 100% his right. But he did make that choice.

He never promised to donate for facilities. If you are talking facilities, you are living in the past. The issue is will he put up real money to pay the players.

He’s a convicted Felon!!!! Come on. Scrap is a cash business. Sit back and eat popcorn because things are going to get interesting.

This is beyond embarrassing at this point. Everyone looks horrible.
If, in some alternate universe, I was one of the truly big donors not involved in this mess I would fire off a nice letter to the Chancellor and the BOT and tell them this stops now, or my money goes elsewhere.

Lally comes across as a small-membered meathead here. And he is effectively representing the university every time he opens his mouth. At least our check kiter has not official affiliation with the school and can hide behind his tooldom.

My point was that he *could* have donated big money for facilities when the facilities arms race was very, very important. He chose not to. Which of course is his prerogative.

But you were contending that there hadn’t been an NIL explosion when he was most active. That’s true, but most SU boosters were spending big to support critical facilities needs then. Weitsman didn’t. He tricked out a suite.

I get it but im just responding to people saying he didnt really give much to NIL. There could be an explanation for that.

I think Weitsman provided the answer in that piece. He liked the “excitement” of courting recruits. He didn’t want to give to group-funded causes.

He could have poured millions into NIL the last 2 years. But he didn’t want to give to collectives, he wanted to be the star. Again, it’s fine, thats his choice. We just need to stop wondering “why”. We know now.

I think in this universe, not all that many people are paying attention to this - it really is not a big deal.

So basically this long awaited expose proves yet again that this forum has better and faster info. than any media outlet.
Yeah the expose I was hoping for really fell flat. Good to know he was donating less than 160K but aside from that the article was sorta boring.

It’s too bad AW & Lalleys don’t get along because it seems like we’d all win if they did.

From the article:

But he said he prefers the excitement of personally attracting and building a relationship with a program-changing recruit.

That's why you can't have this guy around. It's such a slippery slope.
there is no slippery slope anymore, essentially still no rules, you need every booster every cent and a business savy chancellor who cultivates such, not a nerd hiding on a hill.

The story needed to be about the naming rights of the dome.
