Clean House on this roster

Agree. Issue is that we had the solution to this issue and he left. Now what happens next year? Hopefully Mintz? What if Buddy comes back?

Joe deserves to play at least one year at 2G.
If Buddy leaves and Joe plays the 2 fans that think Buddy’s shot selection is awful this year have zero idea what’s coming next year.

Based on who we have signed and expected back there’s literally nobody else to shoot the shots besides Joe next year.

Are any of our players this season going to make ACC first or second team?
I imagine Jesse had a chance but Duke bias.
Buddy might. Maybe Joe. The ACC is bad and we are part of that. it won’t be the most impressive list anyone has seen that’s for sure.

We can’t feed Jesse.
Also if Joe has a PG who can get him clean looks he has shown he can shoot over 40%.
I think Joe is a better shooter than Buddy. They both take a lot of bad shots and Joe is shooting better.

We all know we are screwed at forward. We need a portal forward.

I am mean I see what is coming. I don’t think JB has managed the roster well and have been saying.

1st or 2nd team?

I don’t we have one of the top 10 players in the conference. Maybe Jesse but not our guards.

Guard play is how you win in college hoops and its been our issue defensively.

Part of Joe's improved efficiency this year is based on shot selection, but I think it's more primarily based upon him being no higher than 3rd or 4th in the pecking order offensively. He's not the focus of defensive game plans to shut down.

That would change next year, if he's miscast as the primary scorer.

Playing off the ball would be good for Joe, in the main. But for him to maximize his potential, it needs to be as a complimentary scorer, not the one counted on to make the engine run.

I just looked at the stats page for ACC basketball.

Woof outside of Banchero at NBA draft picks.

Griffin is probably the second best NBa prospect and he isn’t close to first or second team all-ACC.

S H O C K E R

Crazy how that works. You mean, if a coach gives a player more time on the court without the fear that one mistake will cost him time on the bench, the player can perform better? Huh, I've never considered that before.

I thought Jesse is really good and should play the bulk of minutes? Of all the bears to poke not sure this one is it...

Need athletes. Not slow plodding average shooters. Our offense is horrendous. Cole has been such a disappointment
Really don't understand your take on Cole, he has been anything but a disappointment.

Cole has been up-n-down but he was the major difference in our winning streak. His rebounding has gotten better and no, he’s not terrible in the zone.
It’s been beaten to death but the real head scratcher this year has been Jimmy and his PT.
He. Never. Sits. We had to get used to Buddy & JG3 getting Iron Man minutes but the thought there was, either one could catch fire and make up for any defensive weaknesses. But Jimmy doesn’t have the arsenal that the other 2 guys have, and is just as weak on defense and rebounding, so it’s a little curious why he gets as much time as he has.
Yes, “Benny isn’t ready”, blah blah blah, but none of that justifies 35 mins per game for Jimmy. JB’s PT allotment has frankly become baffling. Just don’t get it.
you aren’t a poster known for saying things about JB on the regular, so for you to be scratching your head over this should be a sign to the others that aren’t seeing this.

I once thought Buddy and Jimmy would come back for next year pending Jimmy's NCAA appeal for another year. But now I'm convinced neither will be back. Whether justified or not, they must be sick of the criticism and vitriol being thrown their way for the failure of this year's team and the supposed favoritism and nepotism being given to them by their father. They must hate it for being blamed for their Dad's worst season in 46 years. Nobody in their right mind would want to come back for another year of that.
Supposed is a funny choice

I have seen Aldones Williams play only 2 times against us and he is the leading scorer in the ACC.

The players in the ACC this year are way down.

I’m sure we will feed Jesse, but that’s two guys. Who are the other 3?

And percentages don’t tell us the entire story. A lot of guys we have had historically shoot worse later in their careers than they did early because they moved up on the scouting report and JB gives his best players a massive green light.

Gmac, Triche, Fair, Battle etc….We see it happen all the time and we think the player became a worse shooter, but that’s not what’s happening. It’s happened too much here to not realize what’s going on. Until we move away from an ISO heavy offense this is what we have to deal with.

With the right point guard, I have no doubt Joe at the 2G would average 22ppg while hitting 4 to 5 threes a game. His legs would be a lot fresher than they are now, and as someone stated he is hitting at a 44% clip
Buddy too.

the numbers from last year are out there.

I agree entirely, but as currently projected we have nobody else.

I don’t even think he’s that. I’ve seen my full share of stumbling and bumbling drives. His footwork and the weird hand switching is just low D1 level indicative. If we have had a slower player at I don’t know who it was (maybe Cole? Or Blackwell)?

People bang the drum about depth, he's the perfect kind of depth player. Toolsy enough and can do some things in a limited time, keep the scoring going while a Quincy type gets some air. Or at worst splits time with Bobby B.

Honestly I don't see the point of JB singling him out at press conferences, outside of getting his foul shooting up the kid is beyond maxed at what he can do.

We are 13-12 trying to be chuckers. There’s a lot more to the game than what we’ve settled with.

Yes, we’d need some help shooting, but we could be better at literally everything else.

And, Joe can move without the ball. Buddy and Joe aren’t the same. In fact, Joe has been pretty good with improving his percentages this year. I think his shot selection is fine relative to Buddy.

He takes a lot of bad forced shots.
His defense is honestly not worth saying anything but not good enough.
If he were a 15 MpG off the bench leading a second unit with his offense okay.
The kid never sits for his mistakes like lots of other kids have.

He shouldn’t be playing this much and that is on the HC. Plus he complains about every single foul called on him. Just stop doing that.

What have you seen out of any of our recruits and freshman forward that make you think this? We have gaping holes at the forward positions.

If Robert Braswell didn’t transfer we would likely be 2-3 games better this season.

Stuff like that is roster management.
Okay Braswell left get a kid in the portal and tell them they will play 15-30 MPG depending on how they play each game.

We didn’t do that.
Braswell was the 4th forward to start last season.

Quincy, Griffin, Dolezaj, then Braswell and we had Newton.

We can actually have 4 forwards. It is allowed.
If Sidibe didn’t get hurt last year one of Marek, Quincy, Alan, Buddy would have actually had to sit at all times.

Sidibe’s injury saved JB having to actually rotate and learn to do what he used to do.

We were good when Jesse was in the middle last year. JB didn’t go to that till he had no choice. Again we can see why he has been the way he has. That is why we need certain players to move on.

The Syracuse he is describing wasn’t good on offense in the halfcourt.
We scored a lot of points off transition from the PG pushing the ball off defensive rebounds and our wings filling lanes and getting easy buckets.
That stopped in 2014.

We have played a lot slower since 2014. Even with Ennis we weren’t running.

Our offense sucks because its become a miss or make system with no creativity whatsoever. Its all on the players to make shots.
JB wants Buddy shooting a lot because he thinks he will make a lot of shots.
If Buddy had MCW or Scoop or Dion or GMac or Devendorf or Flynn servicing him on offense he would be a lot better.

Instead we a player who is a SG and doing his best playing out of position and its all ISO.

Jim Boeheim talked about spacing and the people who believe everything he says and don’t want to actually analyze what he says think just having shooters is all you need for spacing.

When if a defense doesn’t have to worry about a player getting to the hole off the dribble why would they ever leave their shooters on defense.
The only way to get shooters open is to move the ball a lot. Which we don’t do.
Kick the ball into the paint and force a defense to collapse. We did this a little this season with Jesse. Joe did it the most and it would work.
Or get open 3’s off offensive rebounds. This would happen a little.
Or we run screens like we did for our SGs in the past. We dont do this.

I would take Andy Rautins every day of the week over Buddy.
Buddy is a nice player but Andy did more to help his offense. Andy didn’t get the shots Buddy has.
And Andy was active as hell on defense.

I said next season.

Jesse is our most important recruit. Yes, forwards are scary. Not arguing.

I’m not saying we’re going to be vying for a chip, but if we can get a PG, push Joe to the 2 and have Jesse, I’m happy to take our chances with where we land at forwards.

I’m looking to be trying to get into the 8/9 game and being happy with that.

With all that said, if it’s JB still and Jimmy gets his waiver… not sure who were getting in the portal to fill the final gaps. It’s a fair concern.

Maybe I’m being too optimistic.

Joes not making 1st or 2nd team. No way. But don’t be surprised if he makes HM. His rankings are pretty good.

1st in FT%
2nd in 3pt FG%
3rd in Assists
7th in steals
