Clemson Postgame Thoughts

Are you talking about the one that we came out of a timeout and settled for a 3 from Brown? These plays from out of timeouts are atrocious. Either, 1- they are not working which is worrisome. Or even more worrisome, 2, which I can’t believe, the play is being designed how it plays out.

Late in the game Girard was on Bell. Why do you not use bell to screen Mintz. If they switch, Mintz should kill girard getting whatever shot he wants. If they don’t switch, bell should be open for a pick and pop. It’s really a simple game at times.
No, passed it around then Judah got stripped out of bounds

I don't have near enough evidence to judge Red one way or the other. One thing I am pretty confidant about is that Clemson has much more talent that we do. And we were right there at the end of the game with them. Now, I would bet that Red counted on Westry and Benny playing for us. And McCloud as well. We will know more down the road.

Yeah. Think about that statement for a sec. It’s a haunting nightmare, seemingly, one in which there’s no waking up from anytime soon. Who’d have ever thought such a thing when we entered this league, let alone actually truly being the case.

Unfortunately, it’s a constant reminder of just how far this program has fallen. Simply disgraceful what JB and the powers that be enabled him to turn this once proud program into.

Taylor wan't in at the end. Actually he was in early and was playing well. He moves the ball and rebounds. His confidence is shot like his shot is missing. Too many haters on this board
He’s a good kid but not talented enough to play at this level. Definitely not talented enough to start. But we have depth issues so we will continue to see him play significant minutes for the rest of the year.

Another center project who has been injury prone and not capable of playing when he wasn't injured. He's basically been injured for three straight seasons and missed a season due to COVID.
You don’t need the type of centers we recruit. Don’t need a 6-11 to 7’4 beanpoles. Nobody else does this. You can fill the position fine with 6-8 to 6-9 dudes who are wider bodied.. they are all over the college landscape and routinely hand us our lunch. Otis hill was 6-7 ish but it felt Like he was 7-2.

At least once a game he throws up an air ball from inside 5 feet

50/50 on Bell and Copeland? Both have next level potential. Bell won last game and Copeland best passer on the team.
Both have major strengths and flaws, hence I’m 50/50. It’s not that complicated.

For several years now we've recruited too many players that are unwilling/unable to rebound and play defense (whether zone or man). How many guys in the last 6-7 years can we point to that were exceptional rebounders or defenders? We've been getting killed down low for what seems like the better part of a decade.
I think Maliq is great but that fact is the reason he sticks out like a sore thumb and maybe we think he’s better than he is in some regards. He’s the only guy I can think of that’s main trait is defense that we’ve had on the team since like…who? Kadary?

Now that we are in "next year" mode all the discussion
is focused on how we fill our needs via the portal.

The portal certainly represents an opportunity, but
every program has their eye on the same group
of potential additions. To date, our success rate in
this arena has been marginal to poor. I would say
Starling has been the only plus, and he certainly
has not been a major positive.

It will be important going forward that we do a better
job with player evaluation and identifying the ones who
can actually help upgrade the program. After that there's
always the challenge of actually selling SU as a fit for
these guys. Not an easy task.

It’s the same thing every game — Maliq doesn’t get enough shot attempts despite shooting 70% from the field. He should be shooting at least 10-12 times per game.
He can't create his own shot. Basically all his points are layups and dunks off passes from Q. Love Maliq but that is why his % is so high

Bingo. It’s so simple that this has been our flaw for a decade. Dajuan Coleman was our last legit center. It feels like we have put a ban on allowing our centers in the weight room.

Right it's not complicated. Both would be consistently good on a team with a real forecourt.

I'm not sure on Red's coaching capabilities so it would really help if he could consistently raise the talent level with the recruiting. All I know is that his predecessor did a good job over the last 5-6 years of driving the program off a cliff.
Thankfully, Copeland pulled Coach Autry aside on the bench, hopefully told him what strategy to use moving forward.

Is McLeod good? No. But he only needs to play 10-15 minutes a game while Maliq plays 25-30 min at the 5. What portal center is going to transfer here to play 10-15 mins a game?
A center that is actually good doesn’t end up only playing 10-15 minutes
