Clemson ticket sales at the moment.

IMHO we won't sellout. I see maybe 45-46k...SU charges way too much for seats in the Preferred areas.

I agree, it's usually pretty empty in my area in 319...I looked up the prices for single game tickets and they are $150 each. Not many people willing to fork over that kind of cash.

I never dreamed that the upper deck middle seats were $150 when the seats 10-15 yds over were $50 until this ticket master thing came about.. if they were priced better the would sell more no doubt.

I agree that the preferred seating prices need an overhaul major. As a season ticket holder I have no problem paying a donation for my seats and I think it's nuts to charge the casual fan a similar rate for single game tickets. I have Syracuse Crunch season tickets. My ticket price is higher based upon the fact I have seats in the "Crunch Club" but on game day the casual fan is not charged a premium for the seats near me and I could care less.

In addition, the athletic department should be taking a page from the Syracuse Crunch marketing department and go to the Chamber of Commerce to obtain contact info for every company in Central New York. They should the have sports marketing students call each company and give them a promo code for their employees to use for discounted tickets. The Crunch staff was able to sell 6200 tickets in two days for the Calder Cup playoffs. Throughout the hockey season the majority of the tickets are sold at discounted rates to youth hockey teams, groups, companies, labor unions, government agencies, the military, law enforcement, etc. The Crunch understands that the most important thing is getting people in the building because they can make up for the discounted tickets through concession sales and parking alone. It's a concept I don't think the SU athletic department understands.

I am at a loss as to why the Carrier Dome Box Office, Athletic Department staff, and sports marketing students aren't calling every business from Rochester to Utica with promo code/ticket deals for the Clemson game. When the Clemson game is over start doing the same thing for Wake Forest and Donovan McNabb's return to the Dome. It's a lot of work but it needs to be done to sell tickets in this town. All you have to do is look at the success of the Syracuse Crunch and the failure of Syracuse Chiefs to see what a lack of marketing does in terms of getting butts in the seats. The sad thing is I think the SU athletic runs their operation sports marketing operation more like the Syracuse Chiefs in terms of promoting its product and selling tickets.

Also the university should refund the money to every student who bought football season tickets and let the students in for free for every football game on a first come first serve basis.

Sorry for the long post but they way SU markets prices it's football tickets and markets the team is a source of frustration to me.

I agree, I think 45k. Any more any less depends on how the homecoming walk up is. It's funny when you look at ticketmaster and you see a bunch of unsold seats in the third level in bunches. I was trying to figure it out at first and like you said the prices jump up drastically towards the front end of the third level. No wonder those seats are empty for most games...

Syracuse's biggest problem in ticket sales is the selling of preferred season ticket sales. Nothing else.

You start selling those on a game by game basis at a lower price and you sell even less preferred seasons. They need to overhaul the structure and reduce the donation, sell more of them, then slowly as the program has more success, increase the donation required.

Selling those seats on the cheap is a short term fix that does more harm in the long term.

there is a fine line between value and cost. should you be rewarded for buying early or in bulk? how much does location increase value. should the value of the seat change for the opponent or decrease as the season winds down..

SU does not have a handle on how to do it, but I dont think its a problem only they have. It would be interesting to see how many tickets get sold on stubhub and how much less they go for..

I know the $150 seats were going for $50 last week

People selling their already purchased seats below cost. Stubhub sales add nothing to tix sold but will put a few more in the seats.

what it would tell you is what people see as the value.. and how much effort they will go to to save money .

i dont see the value in $150 for a 50 yd line seat compared to $50 for 15 yd line seat. I might spring for $75 on occasion in that area.

with the new income from the ACC now is the time to see if the ticket pricing structure can be changed for the better.

but you have to also create value in season tickets. when you can only sell them for 1/3 of face and then the added fees people have to want the program more than just to see a game to justify that cost.

Does anyone really ask those seated around them whether they have season tickets or how much they shelled out to buy that game's ticket? I know I don't. I could care less. I care about my seat. If I look around and the joint is full, I'm happy. Don't care how they do it or what price they charge. If you think you can get a better deal by waiting for the season to start and buy individual tickets, then have at it. But you risk losing the seat you like. It's called supply and demand.

Tix are the same price. It's just that some are in a donation area where you either pay the donation all up front to guarantee that same seat all year or you pay the donation on a per game basis and risk having different seats each game. The ticket price itself does not go up and down based on supply and demand.

At some point, I'm going to figure out the total "maximum revenue" the university has for football games and then restructure the donation level / seat pricing to make it more palatable for fans and increase revenue for the school. I certainly am of the opinion that their pricing for marginal seats is waay way out of whack. It should be a simple concept. Season ticket holders pay a fee for the right to reserve their seats for each game. However, their per ticket cost should be less than the non-season ticket holder. However, you need to fix the problem that exists in the dome where someone sitting 5 feet away from you is paying $200 more / less for their donation fee and $2-3oo more / less for their tickets. They need more gradual ticket pricing.

I would like to revise my prediction, I think the game will sell out with the exception of a couple holes on the upperdeck sideline between the 30s. CNYers aren't going to pay 89 and 102 dollars a pop. I honestly didnt realize that was what they were going for

The time will not come out until Sunday. It has already been announced. it has NOTHING to do with Syracuse University, the Syracuse AD, nor the Syracuse marketing department.

Please, no more complaints about it. Feel honored that TV cares enough about this game for it to be up in the air for the best slots.

They will come out with a deal early next week and knock those seats down to under $50. Book it.

I don't think they've done that before so I'm not sure it would happen now. They have done one offs like given them out to youth groups for free or the opener this year where a season ticket holder could bring a kid for free and get a ticket near their own seats. Also, what do you tell the guy that just spent $600 to bring his family of 4? We aren't selling clothing, we're selling tickets where the price doesn't go up and down based on demand.

Only thing i could think of is give the people that paid the full price a couple of nonconference hoop tickets for free

They should move all the of the people in the upper half of the upper sections down to the lower half, then re sell the upper half!!

Give them away to the 7th caller.

By Tuesday give every single one of the unsold tickets to every radio station in the greater Syracuse market and have them give away every hour on the hour a pair of tickets in the preferred areas. Lots of free advertising from the radio stations and lots of people interested in going (or reselling) will participate. It will screw the stubhub secondary market but who cares, those tickets were already sold by the University anyways.

not completely comparable, but I had Atlanta Thrashers tickets for 4 years. you get to know the core group of ticket holders around you. by the fourth year, it was very clear that a large share of our section was made up of folks who got deals/giveaways. we really felt like suckers, overpaying by probably 50%+ what we could get our seats for. finally didn't renew and would use stubhub to get tix to any game i wanted for about 1/10th face value. they left town about 3 years later. if there's not demand, there needs to be some incremental value of being a season ticket holder.

I know that they did it vs Minnesota (marrones 1st home game)

As posted in another thread if you haven't seen it... A student on the board said his roommate bought a student ticket and they gave him section 213. Also said if you get there early you might have a chance to sit in the regular section. This can only mean good things because some else said a few days ago they were selling student tickets in 307. I'm hoping for a good student turnout and this sounds good.

Also looking at ticket master a lot more seats have been sold since yesterday... pay day maybe? Like a lot are gone. Either that or box office is hiding them.

Update coming soon..
