Coach Search Options after Autry

I think we all need to start accepting that Hop is the next Syracuse coach. It should have been Hop instead of Autry anyways.

We need to make that right.

IF Hop does not succeed, then at that point and only that point can we consider someone without Syracuse ties.

If and only if Gerry Mcnamara and Jason Hart don't want the job.

This is the blueprint for success
Don't forget Etan Thomas...and Rob Konrad for the AD position

It shouldn't have been Hop either, and we're not doing any sort of blueprint for success, if so.

When Hop fails, we'll be ready to hire Gerry next (tho, if he's lucky, he won't want to hitch his wagon to where we are going at that point.)

Rinse, repeat.

By that time, we'll likely be moving to a tertiary non-P4 conference, and struggling with the financial implications of that conference downgrade too...

Poor leadership and successive, repeated bad major athletics decisions will have real consequences. If there was any time in our history where we HAVE to make the right decisions, it's now and into the next 5 years...

Time to buckle in... Rock bottom may be nowhere in sight.

Melo was a Hall of Fame player. That doesn't mean he knows what makes a great coach, or how to run a college basketball program.

I've been clear that I don't know much about Hodgson or if he'd be a good hire for SU. I'm not stuck on him at all.

However, I don't "trust that proper due diligence and an effective process will be followed". Not given the current rudderless state of SU leadership.

I laid out what an executive-level hiring process for this program should be dozens of pages ago, and I've yet to see any evidence that's being followed. Sounds a lot more like Game of Thrones.
Never watched the show or read the books. Which character would JB be?

I’m investing in sunglasses because SU’s future is BRIGHT under MIKE HOPKINS!!!!!

You have to ask yourself how would you feel if Boston College hires Hop, Kiyan transfers to BC and Hop brings in a good roster with some Melo money. Would you be jealous or angry?

Not me. I would be very curious to see how it turns out and I'm sure I would watch some BC games but I would be very happy and prefer if Syracuse got Hodgson instead.
I'd be thrilled. It'd mean we dodged the slowest moving trainwreck ever, tried something different, and had a chance to be relevant again.

If you need to attach 30 million dollars to a coach to justify hiring him then he is not the correct coach, it is really that simple.
What if...what you need AND want is $30M regardless of what Coach must to be attached to that $$$? Does it matter if the coach is "correct" IF the real goal is the $30M? Is that number so big that "they" can't turn it down no matter the coach attached to making that happen? That's the fear for me.

To be crystal clear, I am not saying this is the case. And this is not meant as an endorsement of going with Hop. Nor is this a justification for taking the money and worrying later (even though I do think that is short sighted). Just offering a different perspective.

Lally should threaten to withhold football money if they pick Hopkins over his guy - especially if they go with Lyke as AD. Why would he continue to funnel money into an incompetent administration ?
Last thing I want is a donor doing that over everything. He has as much say as he should. Next thing you know his wife is doing the same thing for AD.

I want BH over hop but not at that cost. I’m tired of the power struggle

I’m not sure Red is gone. Two years left on his contract plus buyout. Might be too much for SU to swallow and if NIL is increased?? The the save double salaries. Bring in$$$ studs and win. Perfect. Not my choice, but is Hop a better option?if they are not going all in!!!

OMG, I can’t believe I just read this. Might as well bring Grob back for another go and then Shafer if/when Fran leaves.

This has already been discussed over and over. The $ for the buyout has already been collected. He gone.

Question do we have any PRO Hall Of Fame members from SU either from football or basketball that went on to a HC position (aside from JB as he was inducted as a coach)? Hall of Fames for Football would be 1. Jim Brown, 2. Jim Ringo, 3. Larry Csonka, 4. Al Davis, 5. John Mackey, 6. Art Monk, 7. Floyd Little, 8. Marvin Harrison and 9. Dwight Freeney. For Bball it’s 1. Melo, and 2. Bing. Any insight? Maybe it can be done.

I share that fear.

And also the fear that Kiyan will be gone after year 2, and so will that influx of money beyond the immediate short term, and we'll be left with the coach.

The problem is the season tix renewals and dome home game attendances in that cycle ... They will be losing money hand over fist with each game under that premise of "Red is back". They've already have had to deal with that to a certain degree (and I am sure the bball home game event profitability books are not pretty) and they can't afford to lose a substantial more # of renewals and even sparser attended home games.

Maths.

Plus that ship has sailed and the buyout is queued.
