Coach Search Options after Autry

Why would it be on the AD? He makes a decision and based on numerous explanations from folks here that know the scenario a bit more Red is the couch. It's not the AD job to coach or make sure as a coach you are doing what is needed to win. If you win you stay, if you lose you go. As AD he is there to support and offer recourses that are available. If you want to be mad at the AD fine but its not on him to over see how Red is running practice

You're kidding me right? I don't have time to explain so keeping it short. These guys all report to the AD. The AD probably kicks around practices. Is he not smart enough to notice the practices are a joke and the team sucks? And yes it is the ADs job to make sure the coach is doing what it takes to win. He's the boss, the coaches are employees.

The rumor was backed up another source- and the timeline alleged it was only a couple days ago. But you keep peddling that rubbish while I’ll be safely and heavily medicated when the news breaks.

I'm pretty sure it was reported in one of the seventy threads that he did citing concerns over NIL. I'm not going to look it up but I'm pretty confident someone with good street cred on this forum posted something.

Ugh. We can’t have nice things, can we? It’s a good win and tourney run for Siena, and I’m happy for GMac, but he has more to prove, and his offense has the same vision and identity problems as Red’s. Have people lost their minds? He’s been a head coach at a lower level mid-major for 2 years.

And wasn’t Gmac on the bench for the entire 10-year long JB swoon? If we have to blame Red for his part in that, Gmac also has to share blame. Am I missing something? His team lost 11 games this year while competing in the MAAC and they finished 190 in KenPom (Merrimack was only a few spots higher, so was similar in terms of efficiency). Btw, Hofstra and Speedy Claxton were at #87, only a few spots below SU. If Gmac wasn’t an SU legend, he wouldn’t even be in the conversation.

UGHH!.. This board has the absolute laziest takes on offense… It’s the sheep thing where you hear someone say it and it’s gotta be correct but have no idea what your seeing

Please I beg you to go back and really watch the Siena games , watch the Fairfield one .. Gerry made some great set calls with flare action with post diving and very good secondary break action …

People, good high level college basketball coaches scout sets and offense . if they any good they take away stuff … Sets don’t always work and with a 30 sec clock you have to have guys make plays .. Just the deal.
Gerry runs a lot of offense and the ball moves until late shot clock when guys gotta make a play …

JB had his last 10 yrs years mixed in with top 50 offense teams so there’s that .. Red teams were not good offensley for a few reasons .. Red didn’t have adjustments or other options to sets .. Players couldn’t execute and third they didn’t go hard enough .. Cuts were slow and screens were Lazy

Offense needs execution, players that can create/ have skill and shot makers .. plus they need to go hard and have a purpose .. Red and Cuse lacked those elements .. Gerry’s team lacks the depth of players skill but has everything else

If there's a want for an alum I don't understand why the people bankrolling Hopkins wouldn't bank roll Gmac instead. Again, I DON'T WANT GMAC, but he's clearly a better candidate than Hopkins at this point.

I’m seriously concerned that Gmac will get a serious look just because he made the tournament. Unbelievable the amount of national attention he has gotten for winning a tournament.

Good for Gerry, but we need to go in the direction of one of the three candidates you have listed and happen to be 3 of my top candidates.

I also think the process is farther along than people realize and that a random game in March like last night doesn't change much or as much as people think. If they have 1. BH 2. Schertz, and 3. Murray is clearly the top 3, one random game in March (win or lose) doesn't change that.

I agree with that take. Everyone hands down would take GMac.

It also just goes to show how far away from a national search we are getting. Now we are just going on vibes. That's what put us in this mess. I really hope the decisionmakers see the trend and put in the work.

I dunno. If the guy that beat me out for a big promotion failed publicly and dramatically at it, and I went elsewhere and had a good job I was successful at with a clear upward trajectory, I don't think I'd be itching to go back.

I don't buy the NIL thing but that's a lot easier to cite than "I don't trust management."

Not kidding and I won’t go round and round. If he is the boss and hired someone to do a job, you have to believe they can do the job. It’s their job not the bosses job, he has his own. Once it has been determined that the employee isn’t working out then you move on. In this case it also deals with fiscal responsibilities that make sense.

Because of Bill, Luke Murray as HC is going to get a lot of media attention for a Major conference team. And Danny Hurley has won BIG at UConn, so the odds are good that his top assistant could hit the ground running as HC.

Let’s hire somebody who has actually done ALL OF THOSE THINGS BEFORE AS A HEAD COACH.

As with most folks, I’d have Murray ranked 3rd on our priority list:
BH
Schertz
L Murray.

Murray would be a Fran Brown sorta hire;
High risk, potentially high reward.

The other 2 much more proven program builders.


Honestly don’t know who else I’d consider if we don’t land one of those.

But… I do know who I would 144% NOT CONSIDER:

Hop
GMac.
