Coach Search Options after Autry

Get ready stilettos…..

And who knows far more about basketball than anyone on this board.

In the meantime let’s keep on with the narrative that the only acceptable coaching hire is someone that most haven’t seen coach a game or hadn’t even heard of three months ago.

I’ll watch the process unfold and support the program next year with at least some level of trust that proper due diligence and an effective process will be followed.
Pat Ewing was a hall of famer who probably knew more basketball than anyone on this board. How’d that work out?

If I had the choice between Duke's NIL/Revenue sharing money with Hopkins coaching and Scheyer and SU's NIL/Revenue sharing, I think I'd take Scheyer. Duke has elite talent, but Scheyer has shown he can coach his guys up. It's not easy to get a bunch of 19 & 20 year old super recruits to play hard for each other and then do it all over again the next season.
Scheyer is a better coach than K. Duke is much better coached since he took over.

The counter argument is that USF isn’t the same level as ACC (obviously) so has Hodgson proven he has won at the highest level? Some say no so you have unproven versus failure. What does everyone prefer ?

Hodgson though is winning against his peers. Theres nothing to suggest he couldn't do that in the P4.

Hop had 7 years in the Pac12 at a flagship state U and couldn't win. Complete flatline trajectory (with NBA players).

Hopkins imo, needed to take another head job and have some success. He didn't.

I'm not necessarily a team Hodgson guy ..but if we're comparing the two it's Hodgson by a mile.

Did I miss an update on the board that Hop was signed? If not why do people keep posting the same stuff? People are in overdrive worrying about a decision that still hasn't been made. Some of you all are going to look like this at this rate.

Unless we can pay up and convince someone like Langel to be an assistant coach or co head coach with Hop where Hop gets the job I don’t see how this ever works out and even that hypothetical I just dropped makes me nauseous.
I just don't understand the mindset of getting great assistants to cover up for inadequacies of a potential HC. You shouldn't have to cover for the most basic aspect of a coach, which is coaching. Besides, most good assistants will move on sooner or later.

You got Tim Leonard on espn syracuse basically saying ignore Hops record at UW, like record doesn't matter. Like what are we doing here?
That's because there is no pitch for Hop other than "people like him." We're not splitting hairs based on resumes - when you factor in merit in even the slightest degree, Hop immediately becomes unhirable.

You heard it from Kevin Sweeny at Sports Illustrated - the national media finds the idea a joke. The local media are the only ones that continue push this. Don't let them get away with it.

No matter who gets the HC position I urge the powers to be in here to push the addition of Scott Fitch in an advisory or assistant coach role. Call me a homer but the dude is a great coach (x and o) and his kids play extremely hard for him every single night with the culture they have created in their program. He obviously has impressed USA Basketball so can't do worse as a 4th/5th assistant or advisory position. Just my $.02

And the response will be the money that Melo will commit is unprecedented, still they would say well he should do that for Hodgson or Schertz, much less risky investment with those two.

Hop only won when he had Romar’s players.

Once he was down the the guys he himself could pull, his results dropped off.

And then once his east coast crootin ties dried up, he was dead in the water.

But sure!
He’s gonna do so much better this time, without having any great players to start off with, nor any recruiting ties anywhere anymore!!

sign me up!!
You mean Romar’s players that went 9-23 the year before Hop and ignoring that four of the top eight players on Hop’s first team were freshmen? Let’s do a little research before we post.
Even more impressive that Hop took “Romar’s players” from nine wins to 27 in two years, isn’t it?

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this at all. There is something to be said for having a great staff let’s say in the scenario where Hop has somehow improved but is not elite by any means but much better than Red or his previous stint. Again im struggling to find any reason things could work out with anyone not named BH at this point but if we are staring down a very real possibility it’s Hop this is what I look at to try and analyze things and opine on it a layer below “ hell no” and “ guaranteed disaster”.

And the facts behind his success at USF are that he has a NET of 52, his best wins are at home against Utah State and at Tulsa and USF has more Q3 losses than Syracuse this year.
Not saying he wouldn’t be very successful here because I don’t know. But the facts are the facts. He’s had a very good mid major season but if he loses in the conference tournament he’ll be watching the NCAAs just like us.

I was the first caller into yesterdays show telling them I am concerned at even the thought of this. Steve and Pauls counter is its just an interview.

Hop would get one game to prove he's changed. The minute anyone sees shtty screens, ISO ball from an inefficient perimeter player, zone, and contested 20 footers then I know I'm out.
Im not advocating for it, just sharing a message that I’ve heard relentlessly from the actual decision makers and donors. Its the world we find ourselves in, and SU constantly being behind the ball yet again finds itself making this decision far more consequential than it already would have been. I hate it too.

You cannot compare a team’s resume in the American Conference to an ACC team. That 52 in the Net that you are downplaying is THE HIGHEST NET RANKING IN PROGRAM HISTORY for them.

Oh, and by the way, that win over Utah State is a top 25 win on both Kenpom and in the Net.
