So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.
Behind the scenes, there are power struggles taking place for all three positions currently open. Chancelor, AD and MBB.
There seem to be competing factions at each position, and there seems to be a clear direction for what I would say is “Team Lally”…which appears to be involved in all three.
Their slate of candidates appear to be:
Chancellor Haynie
AD Lyke
Coach Hodgson
(The last two for sure, not sure about Haynie)
They are opposed on Lyke by some very influential FB supporters.
And they are opposed on Hodgson by Team Melo.(Hop)
Melo will not be outspent here.
I don’t know how this is all going to fall out, but I think Haynie is going to be a winner here.
The AD situation is too close to call.
As is the MBB coach.
The overarching picture here is the Lally’s attempt to consolidate control. I don’t think they’re going to stop until the school is renamed Lally University @ Syracuse.
Let’s just say their name above Melo’s on the basketball facility has been “duly noted”.
I think a Hop - Lyke result would be somewhat of a potential compromise.
As Dash has noted, I don’t see anyway the Lally’s support Hop, nor Melo supports Hodgson.

This is a really good insight about Hodge having the chance to sell Melo on his vision, which won’t come til after the season.I was thinking along on the same lines. Would it be improper for BH to reach out to Melo? Probably yes, Red still has the job. I would have to think if BH gets the job, his first call would be to melo and try to get those assets delivered to him. Melo couldn't do that now because that would undercut Hopkins. But it just seems that and I might be wrong here, but it seems to me that Hop and Bh are minor players in this game. The real game is between the Lally's and Melo.
Maybe dasher richmondcuse03 or Bulldog04 knows have they tried to get a conversation between Hodgson and Melo to happen yet?
Or are things way too far and the line is drawn in the sand? I can't imagine Melo watching tape of Hodgson teams playing and not liking the wide open play style and freedom on offense.
And Red and co didn't buy all the ingredients he wanted them to buy.He didn’t cook the ingredients.
Yup I agree, and I am sure Hopkins and Lally have had some sort of conversations and they have so far been unable to change Lally's mind so I was wondering if BH had his chance with Melo yet, because I think that would be the massive domino.
I do agree logicistically and the optics of that conversation would be weird, but it would need to happen soon. Melo needs to hear BH pitch somehow to understand him better. It does put everyone in a strange place. BH still trying to win a conference title and Melo with Hopkins but for the betterment of Syracuse, that conversation needs to take place.
Filled it out. Thx so much for posting. But I still have 20 more pages to catch up in this damned thread lolNot sure if shared in the other thread but found this survey around the AD search. I made my thoughts known about AD and the HC options. Who knows if it would make a difference but can’t hurt for everyone to jump in and put your thoughts in along with sharing with anyone in Cuse fandom.
Might be worth it’s own post to pin too for folks to see.

That's why I've and a few others have said. Good possibility it's not just about the coach but about having wide range of access to the program and his son. I don't know anything but if I had the choice between a coach with no real success even with star players on the team and a coach with an exciting style. I know which one I'm picking. Unless... I want a level of control that no other coach would allow. Access to practices, discussions about minutes and game strategies. I might be reaching a lot but if you have someone willing to help get 30 mill for the BB program. They're going to want a lot more in return than just a say in the coach.
They are. But like you said, Melo isn't AW. Who I believe is on team Melo. This has BOT drama and intrigue for sure...
Let's not forget, the Lally's essentially got AW jettisoned from support and he was essentially told his money was no good here, go away.
AW is not Melo by any stretch, but I have little doubt that if the Lally's want their way, they will be flexing muscle to get it.
That number is all for nilI want to make this clear: I don’t want Mike Hopkins as the next coach, and I’m all in on BH. However, I do have a question for the insiders on here: in terms of the $30 million+ supposedly coming with Hopkins if he’s hired as HC, how much of that would purely go towards roster construction?
I have actually been told today that that would not be the case. That Hopkins would make it clear that the best guys play. Period. End of story. That is what I was told just today.Yup I have been saying that this 30+ million and push for Hopkins isn't coming so Kiyan can be bench or play 10 minutes a game and not be featured. There will be 100% strings attached. We always joked we run our basketball program like an AAU team, not it will not be just like that with parents paying for their kids' playing time.
I liked it because you did a good job with the analysis that’s all. The main key here is Melo and Hodgson. Does Kiyan not fit what Hodgson does?So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.

So we should hire a guy who’s already proven he can’t fix a troubled program?Washington’s problems are bigger than Hop. Romar’s last 5 years were 79-83.
Sounds like wealthy people acting like wealthy people. The Lyke stuff makes no sense given her history. She must kill it at cocktail parties. So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.

If this is the situation what is the problem with Lyke? I don’t know, so just asking. I mean I’d rather have a coach who can coach hoop than a great AD. The AD only needs to take care of football, MBB, and mlax. Whatever else happens, who cares. Sorry if i offend others in other sports but those are the ones people care about. So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.

Well, Dash, did you expect Hop to tell people “yeah, I’m gonna give Kiyan free rein?”I have actually been told today that that would not be the case. That Hopkins would make it clear that the best guys play. Period. End of story. That is what I was told just today.
Laughing because of the situation, Melo is getting Hop 30 plus million dollars and they are not sure if Kiyan will start. If this is about investing in Syracuse Basketball in general and not really Kiyan, this should be a long term thing then.I have actually been told today that that would not be the case. That Hopkins would make it clear that the best guys play. Period. End of story. That is what I was told just today.
Espn Syracuse will tell you because other schools knew he was eventually gonna get the SU job so they didn't bother. That was the response to way Autry wasn't pursued for lower level head coaching jobs. Why hasn't Hop gotten another HC job since Washington?
Seems to me Lallys want people in there they can control. They can’t tell me they are serious about sports and hire lykes. So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.

This feels spot on tbh. As I said Lyke might have the position, but she has zero leverage and influence in the big picture.Seems to me Lallys want people in there they can control. They can’t tell me they are serious about sports and hire lykes.
