Another posted and I had floated the compromise idea also. The compromise being (as I interpert it) as the Lally's get Lyke and Melo's side gets Hop and hope everyone is happy with a little of what they want.
What could go wrong?
100% agree. It's crazy town. This is what I’m referring to as the “Doomsday scenario”.
Agree. I have become pretty fair weather basketball fan since the decline, still don’t miss a football game but if it’s lyke as ad im done. The writing would be on the wall. I think Hopkins could win with the right assistants and backers but Lyke is an unmitigated disaster and I will not put any more energy or resources into Syracuse if that’s the choice.100% agree. It's crazy town.
I think it’s some think they are smarter then us and some want to control who they put in there for there benefit first and cause they love cuse 2nd.Are the decision makers really that naive/obtuse? Fanbase will be gone forever if they follow thru

Same. I have watched for games this year then the past 4 combined. I just can’t stomach watching Su fall to mediocrity or worse. If they can’t turn these two programs around in the next few years it’s over. I think 2030 is when the final realignment happens and right now Syracuse doesn’t have a seat. Bringing in lyke does nothing to change that. There is no chance Im watching a football program play uconn, buffalo, Cornell, Harvard types.Exactly where I’m at. Was always a huge BB fan, never missed a game but I’ve barely watched the program in the last, god, 5+ years now. This year I was hoping to be more excited and watch every game and after the tournament at the start of the year, that went downhill quick. Football I’ve never missed though but I could see things going very badly there too. We’re hanging on the fringe of becoming obsolete.
All of this dysfunction / politics over hiring a basketball coach. So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.
Behind the scenes, there are power struggles taking place for all three positions currently open. Chancellor, AD and MBB.
There seem to be competing factions at each position, and there seems to be a clear direction for what I would say is “Team Lally”…which appears to be involved in all three.
Their slate of candidates appear to be:
Chancellor Haynie
AD Lyke
Coach Hodgson
(The last two for sure, not sure about Haynie)
They are opposed on Lyke by some very influential FB supporters.
And they are opposed on Hodgson by Team Melo.(Hop)
Melo will not be outspent here.
I don’t know how this is all going to fall out, but I think Haynie is going to be a winner here.
The AD situation is too close to call.
As is the MBB coach.
The overarching picture here is the Lally’s attempt to consolidate control. I don’t think they’re going to stop until the school is renamed Lally University @ Syracuse.
Let’s just say their name above Melo’s on the basketball facility has been “duly noted”.
I think a Hop - Lyke result would be somewhat of a potential compromise.
As Dash has noted, I don’t see anyway the Lally’s support Hop, nor Melo supports Hodgson.
Given all her baggage at Pitt, you have to wonder why she was hired in the first placeI think I’m feeling a little better about the AD search. No inside info. The ad search committee has tirico on it. I dont think he would let this happen. In addition they have hired a search firm, which dives into candidates backgrounds. I would hope and think they would uncover all the nasty stuff at Pitt on Lyke.
Maybe I’m too optimistic, I’m hoping these two factors prevent Lyke from being the next AD.
That’s what I was wondering.Given all her baggage at Pitt, you have to wonder why she was hired in the first place
The main reason why I think (hope) sane minds will prevail and she won't be hired.Given all her baggage at Pitt, you have to wonder why she was hired in the first place
My guess: schools looked at his coach g recordWhy hasn't Hop gotten another HC job since Washington?
I tend to lean overly optimistic and try to give people a chance, but it's hard to disagree. I still never miss a basketball or football game. But if this comes to fruition, my mindset right now is it's difficult to keep supporting a school with the same passion I have always had if they can't get out of their own way. And Syracuse has always been my #1 sports love, so it's very hard for me to say that.Agree. I’m almost totally out. If they hire Hop or GMac, it’s a signal they have given up, and the powers that be don’t care about the program or the fans.I don't think people will get behind Hopkins the way they think they will, even with the money and local media pumping him up. The casuals and even a lot of the die hards are looking for change
Hopefully this board is more of a litmus test than most of us think. I'm holding out hope, until it is crushedThe main reason why I think (hope) sane minds will prevail and she won't be hired.
Wow, what a diehard.I’m almost totally out. If they hire Hop or GMac, it’s a signal they have given up, and the powers that be don’t care about the program or the fans.
If that happens, it will be sooooo easy to totally quit caring. I won’t let the door hit me on the way out.
I don’t believe any NIL will come with Hop. I believe riches are being hinted at, but won’t come to fruition, particularly for the long term. Why? Because those people promising conditional funding don’t care about SU.I was just thinking about failed coaches that went on to become big winners. You guys might be too young to remember the NY papers when Joe Torre got hired by the Yankees. Or the reaction in Boston when Terry Franconia was hired by the Red Sox. Throw Bill B in to that as well with the Pats. People can learn and they can get better. That isn't to say I would hire Hop. I wouldn't. But the amount of Nil that we are talking is eye opening. Is it a sugar high? 100% yes. Is it the long term answer, I think not. But I have been wrong before and so has everyone on this board. The good thing is the answer is coming. Sooner rather than later.
Agree this has always been the rub with me. I love Su sports more then anything but they are still in the mindset that they are the only show in town. 20+ years to replace p and get a Fran brown type who is trying to change the perception is ludicrous. Now they will go down this road with basketball and hire on the cheap again. They will listen to the bot that has their own interests at heart and blow off the fan. Well the rooster will shortly come to roost when the buyouts are manageable and we get left behind. Then they will blame it on the lack of fan support. How many millions did they lose with poor attendance the past few years. I bet you it’s more than what it would have been if they hired a winning coach who turned it around.I tend to lean overly optimistic and try to give people a chance, but it's hard to disagree. I still never miss a basketball or football fan. Lots of folks here know my former devotion: season tickets, 21/25 BETs. Travel for NCAA games and a FF.Wow, what a diehard.

Is there a search? If it's any consolation, I think we are going to mess up the A.D. search even worse.

That’s what I was wondering.
