Coaching is a huge problem

The same exact team plus Hughes this year that beat the same VPI team and lost close games to the same FSU/N.C. State teams last year got blown out in all 3 this year.

We either haven’t improved or those 3 teams have all improved significantly more than us.

It isn’t even debatable.

Our backcourt should be a lot faster next season.
How? What do you expect the starting lineup will be?
If it's Carey+Buddy or Goodine+Buddy, isn't that pretty much a wash versus Howard+Battle?

Why offer praise then? Two sides of the same coin.

I don’t read any praise on here today. Just the bleating of the entitled, the disappointed and the usual amateur observations and recommendations as to what is needed.

We're way past disappointment. What are the 5 stages of grief again? I think we're at acceptance.

I think that applies to death from some sort of terrible disease.

If you are going through those phases you are “overinvested”.

Over invested is what most of us would say of your 100% defense of JB at any turn.
I don’t defend Brady and Belichick as strongly as he defends JB and I defend those guys all the way to the wall.

Not the same thing at all.

I’m not thrown into fits of Rumplestiltskin-like anger in which I trash everything associated with the program.

I’m an SU fan and JB pretty much is and has been the program.

And I have easiest job on the board along with some others. My client has 1040+ wins. You guys have opinions. And you know what they say about opinions.

Once again, you know the old line, it didn't end well? Well, if it didn't end badly, it wouldn't end. Our program is so stale. I would love to know how many more times JB went to Rochester to see Jaime as opposed to how many times he went to see Stewart. I do know that a 35 year old JB would have seen Stewart more than the 75 year old version did. And that is only normal. but the guys we are recruiting against, they are recruiting like that 35 year old guy I was referring to. We can play any defense and play any style offense, if you have the players. We haven't had a 5 that we could throw the ball to and get a bucket since rak left. That is not acceptable nor is it good basketball. When he don't hit from the outside, we have no chance to score.

I for one respect your observations. But, I would like to see your recommendations both relating to the players as well as the coaches. Thank you!

Oh yes you are. It's just that your anger isn't aimed at JB or the players. It is aimed at the posters that have the temerity to point out the flaws on our program. And not for nothing, but according to the NCAA, your guy doesn't have 1040 wins because he put his school on probation not once but twice. And also not for nothing, he isn't your guy. He is our guy. And we named the court after him. And have cheered him for years. but this program has slipped. And it shows no sign of getting any better any time soon. You have been around for a while, do we recruit the same caliber of player now that we did in the past? Yes or No. Are the games as enjoyable to watch? Yes or No. I loved going back to Syracuse to watch games. I don't do that any longer. The people that are upset, aren't wrong. Yes, some were never fans of Jb and they can be discounted. But that isn't everyone.

Here's a pop culture reference you'll get. Johnny Carson always used to say that I don't want to hang on until it's too late. I saw that happen to Bob Hope and Jack Paar and it was heartbreaking. JB is approaching Bob Hope/Jack Paar territory.

Jack Paar is a terrible example. He only hosted the Tonight show (the jack Paar show at the time) for 5 years

is it possible Townie is JB? We never see the two of them in the same room together. And we never see townie post during the games.

And they both avoid political discussion.

You may be on to something here...

Hughes 2-10

Battle 3-9
Buddy 1-6

Those 4 also went 0-12 from three.

At what point are the players responsible for putting the ball in the basket?

I know you're a HUGE lacrosse fan, but at what point are you willing to admit think the basketball program is headed down the same path as the lacrosse program?

The thing is is that it IS the responsibility of the coaching to run sets that get the players into positions where they can get a good look. Too many times I’ve seen our offense be “Tyus Battle iso’s and puts up a long two.”

I mean bad shooting nights are a thing that happens. Bad shooting four year long stretches are somewhat more concerning.

And I'm not talking about recruiting.

I'm talking about effort and game planning.

We aren't playing as well defensively like we were last year. We don't identify shooters at all and it's not just specific to Howard. Battle is just a big a culprit here.

Offensively I have zero idea what our plan of attack is besides chuck up contested J's or Oshae chuck up a brick off the backboard.

I appreciate JB as much as anyone, but the staff has not had a good year outside of us signing Girard, Goodine, and Guerrier.
jb needs good small forwards to take over. hughes isn't designated, he spends way too many possessions standing in the corner. without great small forwards, what does this offense ever do?

They are, but they're also not getting good looks at the basket. I don't think anyone can look at the SU offense of the last few seasons and see a smooth machine that churns out good shot opportunities. Well Townie can, but I put that troll on ignore long ago.
